I received my router from Linksys for free to test and evaluate. My primary purpose was to see how this router worked compared to my current router especially as a wireless bridge. My current router is also a top of the line router and has met all of my expectations based on the setup in my home. Below is my review that was sent to Linksys: I received this router a few weeks ago since I needed to improve the wireless signal in my home. My current main router is on the first floor of my home in the northwest corner. My den is located on the second floor in the southeast corner where I setup another router of the same brand as a wireless bridge. The connection between the two are via the 5GHZ band and works well. The issue though is that even though my connections are solid, the speed is no where where I want it to be. My download from my ISP is 300 mbits. My lan is only 175 mbits in my den. I have all of my 2.4 and 5 GHZ networks on non-overlapping channels. I will be getting a 1 gig setup from my ISP sometime this year and I want to get as much download lan speed as I can. With that in mind I received the WRT1900ACS dual-band router. My expectations were that since the router is 4x4 and since I used another Linksys router as my wireless bridge which is the EA7500 that I would see an increase in my lan speed. The bottom line is that my lan speed in the den did improve to 250 mbits . So yes, it helped but not as much as I would like to see. Most of this in my opinion is due to the fact that none of my clients have the same technical abilities as my routers even though my clients which include an HP Spectrex360, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Iphone 5S, and a Macbook Pro are all less then 2 years old. I think it's great that routers are getting more powerful but until the clients catch up there really isn't that much to gain. For anyone purchasing a new router that doesn't already have one, I would recommend the WRT1900ACS if they have the budget for it. The signal strength is excellent and works well on the second floor of my home but with close to a 40 percent drop in speed. It will be good for many years. One major thought to keep in mind, if you want to use this router as a wireless bridge, you must choose to use either the 2.4 or 5GHZ range. Which ever one you choose, it will not be available to any of your clients. I find that a negative. My original router does not have that restriction.

Screaming speed in 5 GHz--not in 2.4 GHz

I've have my LinkSys WRT1900ACS wi-fi router for about 4 months. I recently added 4 Roku devices (since i could save monthly rental costs from Time Warner Cable). Also around this time, Time Warner Cable increased the internet speed in my area to 100 Mbps--but that was beyond the capabilities of my modem. My old router was not able to keep up with all the new devices. I received this router in the mail to evaluate, so it was worth checking to see if I would get better speed and picture quality. After an easy, easy install, I could see crisp HD on each Roku device. The quality went from an older SD-ish picture to crisp HD. Incredible. The laptop (3 years old) was responding so much faster and using the increased internet speeds. Again, super pleased. My 6-month-old HP desktop was frankly at its knees. I was not even getting 1 Mbps upload speeds, yet I was getting 10 Mbps download speeds. Every other device was connected to the 5GHz and this was just seeing the 2.4 GHz. I lived with it for a few weeks and finally contacted Linksys Tech Support. I had a response in a few hours and we exchanged another round of email. What I found was my nearly new HP desktop only had a wireless card for 2.4 GHz. Within 24 hours of my first contact with Linksys Tech Support, I knew how to find out the capabilities of my wireless card (not easy in Windows 10) and what USB adapter to purchase to get me 5 GHz speeds. I then purchased the Linksys N900 Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter (about $30) and after a quick install, I now have 114+ Mbps internet connectivity.

Long range, great for large house

I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends & Family Progarm. When I opened the box I first thought how tough and rugged the router looks. It seems industrial. It's big and I like the bright blue. Set up: I used the provided instalation disc while my laptop was connected to the router via USB. However there is an option to set up wirelessly using the provided website address. I used the basic set up configuration (which basically set's it up for you easily going through the steps). It was faster than expected, the entire set up only took about 5 to 8 minutes. I entered my own network name and password. Range: My house is 3,400 Square feet, two stories with lots of walls so range is important to me. We stream a lot of shows. Sometimes my husband and I are watching Netflix downstairs while the kids are streaming Amazon upstairs or my son is online with his XBox. This router is definitely better, stronger and more consistent than my old one. The router is set up at the top of the stairs so it's kind of centered in the house. When watching Netflix on the Roku, downstairs, 3 walls between TV and router, it streams great, consistent and fast. I am very happy with that. APP: Love, love the APP. It lets you make changes to your configuration very easily. Has parental control and you can log on anytime to see a map of all devices connected to your router. It is very and easy to figure out. There really isn't a learning curve, anyone can quickly learn how to use it. The only thing missing for me on the APP is the ability to reboot the router remotely rather than going to the router physically to reboot if needed. Guest Network: The only part of the set up that confused me, was that it set up a guest network using the same password I choose for my home set up. You can go onto the APP later and change the password or disable the guest network. But I would of preferred to make that choice during set up. Overall, I would recommend this router, it's a big upgrade from my previous router and I haven't been getting the usual complaints from my husband and kids about how slow the internet is. With this router our speeds have been much better and more consistent.

    Does the Job

I've used this WRT1900ACS for one month. It's located a little off-center on the bottom floor of a two-story house which has 1800 sq. ft. per floor. The 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands each adequately cover both floors. The 5.0 GHz signal gets moderately weak at the farthest points of the upper floor, but it's still usable. The 2.4 GHz signal is good to excellent everywhere. The router is very stable. A reboot has not been needed during the first month of use - it has run continuously for a month. I bought this router partly because it supports third-party firmware. I planned to use DD-WRT if the stock firmware was buggy, inadequate or unstable. So far I've been mostly happy with the stock firmware (version 2.0.1.177097). The user interface is generally easy to use. Be aware I've not tested the VPN (not a major need). My biggest single complaint is the stock firmware does not provide the option to encrypt the guest wireless network (WPA/WPA2). Other brands support this option. Linksys assumes the guest will always be using an HTTPS connection when entering sensitive information. While that may be true most of the time, I wonder why Linksys doesn't follow that same line of thinking for the owner's wireless network (which is encrypted by default). Be aware of the size of the router. It's large compared to others. This isn't an issue for me but could be for some.

Decent performance, but light on features

I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends + Family Program. I would categorize this router as good, but not great, in most areas. In some, it's actually a little disappointing for a product in this price range. While it boasts a wide breadth of features, those are implemented in a rather basic way, and it is rather lacking in the depth of configurability. It is easy to set up and use (partially thanks to lack of power-user options), contains the functionality that the typical home internet user needs, and has proven stable so far; although I did have a few unusual problems on the first day of setup, they have not recurred. I have not experienced any unexpected reboots or wireless disconnects or slowdowns. If you need advanced functionality such as a good access point mode, detailed DHCP configuration, advanced wireless settings, very specific routing, detailed logs, advanced ethernet options like port aggregation, disabling, or speed/duplex forcing, actual internet data measurement/limiting, advanced parental controls, or detailed client information, you will likely be disappointed by what this router offers. One particularly bright spot, however, is the 2.4GHz coverage and range, which is the best I have experienced at my house, reaching the furthest spots in my house that previously have been inaccessible. The four antennas can be adjusted to suit your home's layout, though how to do that is covered only on Linksys's website and not in the printed material that comes with the router. As an AC1900 router, naturally performance is better than any "Wireless N" router, but from some simple comparison tests I'm not altogether sure it measures up to the promised specs (especially when using the ethernet ports), or even performs noticeably better than a less-expensive AC1750 model. My internet connection is the same speed with this router (it's not fast enough to tax any router) but it does feel faster when connecting in AC mode. While Linksys advertises this as being "open source ready" it seems that it is still quite a work in progress, with some people reporting success, but few have been willing to take the risk on a pricey router that is not yet widely used with the open-source projects. I would like to put Gargoyle on this but haven't taken the plunge. The improved range provided by the 4 antennas may be worth it if you have difficulties with coverage. But overall I feel this router is most suited for a casual user with multiple AC devices that will be happy with limited configurability. For most people I feel that a decent AC1750 router will do the job for $100 less. So I suppose I would recommend this to SOME friends, but not many.

Outstanding as Router, Not so as Bridge

I received this router for as a free sample to test it out. Since I already have a nice Linksys EA9200 Tri-Band Router, I wanted to try setting this router up as a bridge to provide extended Wi-Fi in my garage. I currently extend my Wi-Fi using a Linksys RE6500 Dual Band Wireless Extender. I disconnected my RE6500 and ran an Ethernet cable to my garage. I followed the instructions in the owner's manual to set up the WRT 1900ACS in bridge mode as an access point. This process is more manual than a typical setup of a new router, however, it was straight forward. Every step proceeded as expected. I was able to complete the set up and use this new wireless signal in my garage. Unfortunately, the network speeds were significantly lower than they had been using the RE6500. This doesn't seem right since the RE6500 gets its input via Wi-Fi and the WRT 1900ACS gets its input directly from an Ethernet cable connected to my EA9200. So using this costly router as an access point bridge is probably not a good idea. Performing the standard setup was extremely easy. This router with its Linksys Smart Wi-Fi browser and smartphone app is very easy to use, monitor and tweak for best performance. My testing showed that this AC1900 was as least as effective as two of the bands of the more expensive AC3200. Both speed and range were excellent when set up as a router.

I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends + Family Program I found out that this unit did exceed my expectation because of the features and function that I can use with this router. It is easy to setup with the quick start guide and it does not require any technical knowledge. This unit is great for people who want to stream their hard drive to multiple computer and be able to access easily. In terms of the connection wise, it got more coverage area and strong signal than the old router. High recommend if you looking to get a router with hard drive streaming.

I received this Linksys SE3005 as a free sample from Linksys in exchange for my honest feedback. The Linksys SE3005 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch is a real no-brainer. It works as advertised and does so with ease. It is truly Plug & Play. It took me only a few minutes to plug in the power and connect my wireless router, two PCs, network printer, and NAS. All devices were connected, online, and communicating at gigabit speed without having to reboot a single device. The Linksys SE3005 is small & compact so it takes up very little space and can be tucked away out of site if need be or can also be wall-mounted with the included kit. I was able to share and transfer files quickly with multiple devices and the Linksys SE3005 switch didn't break a sweat. I do a LOT of LARGE file transfers over my home network, as well as streaming movies & music, and have bit torrent running 24/7. This gigabit switch took a load off my wireless router that was also acting as my network switch. Since adding the SE3005 to my network, traffic seems to flow much smoother and efficient. I have not experience a single issue with it and would definitely recommend this 5-port switch if you need a very small and portable, yet efficient gigabit ethernet switch.

I received the WRT1900ACS from Linksys in exchange for an honest review. I am a Google Fiber customer, and the router that comes with the service is good, but I wasn't happy with the drop-off in speeds we had on the second floor of our house. I disabled WIFI on Google's router and replaced it with the WRT1900ACS, to see if we had any improvement. I was very happy to see that we did. When in close range the speeds are about the same between the two routers, but on the second floor we almost doubled our speeds on every device I tested. I'm very happy with this, as it means I don't have to mess with range extenders or other solutions. A couple of additional notes on my set up process. Setting up the router was very easy. Most things are taken care of automatically. Initially I set both the 2.4 and the 5GHz with the same name. When I connected I had very low speeds. Once I renamed the 2.4 and connected to the 5 alone my speeds shut up. Maybe it was just a fluke, but I thought I'd mention it. Other than that, all I had to do was set up some reserved IP addresses for a couple of our network devices, which is very easy in the control panel, and things have worked great since!

Not only is this the best router I have ever had, it was the easiest to set up. I was up and running 15 minutes after taking it out of the box. I love the graphical network map where I can see everything that is connected to my network, and whether they are connected at 2.4 or 5 GHz. The range is excellent, much better than my old wireless n router. I have a large, 2 story house and by necessity, this router has to be in one corner of the first floor. Coverage was acceptable in all areas of the house, but I also have a detached 2 car garage that I use as a workshop, that is about 50 feet away from the house, on the opposite side of where the router is located. I bought a 2nd 1900ACS and cascaded the routers together, using a power line adaptor and following the instructions on the website. I get a strong signal in every area of the house and the garage. I couldn't be happier. Full disclosure - I received one as a free sample from Linksys in exchange for my honest feedback. I purchased the second one because I liked the first one so much!

I received this router free for giving an honest review. I have been using the router for about a week now. It seems to be working great! I had one problem when installing it. I could not get the website to acknowledge my password in order to get the software download needed for the settings. I called customer service and they did an awesome job of immediately getting things to work very smoothly. I have not had any other problems whatsoever. It was very easy to change out from my previous router otherwise. It handles multiple computers very well and no loss of speed detected. I have had 4 computers and a printer all going at once. I would definitely purchase this if I needed one for another facility. I am a loyal Linksys user. My other router was Linksys and lasted many years. I believe they are built a little better than other routers I have seen used in other facilities. I believe you can put your trust in this router and be extremely happy! I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

This is my 4th Linksys router and by far the best performance and the easiest setup. Initially I wanted a router for AC WiFi but needed something that was compatible with older equipment. This device does the trick for both cutting edge technology and older equipment that I will continue to use. For me the most important criteria is performance and this router delivers. The only thing that disappointed me was the 5GHz signal strength. I had been using an extender to provide a better signal to our den (furthermost distance from the router) and hoped the new router would allow me to eliminate the extender but it did not. The signal was definitely improved but not consistent enough to support video streaming. Note the 2.4GHz signal was outstanding.. Using the SmartLink interface is also a huge time-saver. Note that this interface works locally or remotely.

I purchased the WRT1900ACS simply because I wanted broader coverage and a faster speed. It replaced an older Linksys E4200v2 which had given good service and adequate performance. I really never had a problem with the E4200v2. The installation was easy but there are performance problems. The router initially sets up with WPA2/WPA mixed encryption on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. When WPA2 only is selected on the 5GHz band the intra-LAN device to device speed drops by 93% with a laptop at 10 feet from the router and a desktop connected by Ethernet. When WPA2 only is selected on the 2.4GHz band the Internet download speed drops by 33% with a laptop 10 feet from the router. This performance drop when WPA2 only is selected was replicated many times and was consistent across different network modes and different channels selected for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. I also insured that the router firmware is up-to-date. I encountered one further problem with the router. A consistent initial connection with a Motorola phone on the 2.4GHz band could not be made. About 65% of the time, the Motorola phone would connect if and only if another device, such as a wireless printer, was first connected on the 2.4GHz band. Furthermore, I exchanged the originally purchased WRT1900ACS for another upon the advice of Linksys technical support. The same problems still exist. Others on various message and review forums have encountered problems similar to mine when WPA2 only is used. Given that and my first-hand experience, I believe there is a problem in the router firmware. I have made Linksys aware of the problems I encountered and asked them to look at other message forums. For now, the Linksys WRT1900ACS is NOT ready for prime time and will be returned. I will reinstall my old E4200v2.

I was looking for a reliable router to replace an old Netgear router that would regularly lose network connectivity on the 2.4 GHz network until the router was rebooted. I have a shared wireless printer that can only connect on the 2.4 GHz network so this was a nagging problem in my house with 2 students. So, my priority was getting a new router that was stable and provided broader coverage in a 3000+ square foot house. After doing some research, I set my sights on this WRT1900ACS router. Initial set up was simple and Linksys does the little things like including the SSID and password printed on the setup CD sleeve to make connecting to the router as painless as possible right out of the box. Performance wise, there was no difference between wired and wireless speed (90Mbps download). Initially, I was very impressed with the speed and range this router provided - I was getting 60 Mbps download speeds in areas of my house where I couldn't even connect before. However, after about 36 hours of uptime, there was severe degradation in speed on the 5GHz network (90 Mbps to 2.5 Mbps). No degradation with the 2.4 GHz network, just the 5. So I reboot the router and voila, it's back to normal until another 36 or so hours and then the exact same problem. This time, I let the router sit in the degraded 5GHz state and after about 12 hours I briefly lose all connectivity to the router and then everything goes back to normal. I can't say for certain since there's no uptime clock in the router but it appears that the router rebooted itself. At this point, I contacted Linksys technical support (case 05872290) and they suggested changing the channel widths and using specific channels for the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks which I did. Linksys technical support also advised that if I continued to have the problem, to re-flash the router by loading the firmware file to the router manually. Well, I continued to have the problem and instead of re-flashing the router, I took the router back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another WRT1900ACS. This time, I didn't run the automatic setup and loaded the latest firmware file to the router manually and installed it. Again, after another 36 or so hours, I experienced the same problem. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue with Linksys one more time but all they could do was suggest that I re-flash the router with the latest firmware (1.0.0.169041) which I already did when I got the 2nd router. I was promised a call back from Linksys second level technical support but never heard back from them. So without any support from the manufacturer, I'm left to guess what's wrong with this router and I suspect there's a memory leak in the drivers for the 5GHz radio which over the course of a day and a half shows symptoms of performance degradation which ultimately crashes the router forcing it to reboot. Not my idea of a reliable router. I again returned the router to Best Buy and purchased a completely different router, the Asus RT-AC68P. In my network environment, the wireless performance of this less expensive Asus router is identical to the Linksys WRT1900ACS in both speed and range. The only significant difference between the 2 is stability, where the Linksys suffered from performance degradation on the 5GHz band after about 36 hours, I have yet to find any performance issues with the Asus router which has been rock steady for me so far. Bottom line, my experience with the Linksys WRT1900ACS tells me that it's buggy and not worth the high price of admission.

I have had the router up and running for a couple weeks now and I must say I am very impressed with the WRT1900ACS I am now getting 5 bars in the whole house on both 2.4GHz frequency and 5.0GHz frequency. We love to stream movies and with the router is opposite side of house in basement and it does a excellent job. We are gadget people wireless everything it feels like in the house from thermostats to fitbits. It does such a good job that without the security features I would be giving a lot of my neighbors free internet. The setup was super easy and very fast. The simplest I have ever done. The menu is very user friendly to navigate so you can change your setting easily for guest network and passwords. I received the WRT1900ACS as a free sample from Linksys in exchange for my honest feedback.

Note: I received a free sample from Linksys in exchange for your honest feedback. Its been 2-3 weeks that I have been using after replacing existing TopLink one. First impression was solid w.r.t setup, speed and connectivity (range). For these couple of weeks, i had 1-2 drop outs in between but its definitely better than all my previous routers. Dual band is definitely advanateous to split the devices between networks. 5GHz shows better performance as expected. The hardware/box looks solid with good protection. Reading the net reviews shows mixed response and i am waiting to validate those issues. Will update the review if I see any connection issues/reboots in next couple of weeks. As of now, i am satisfied with the produce and since it was free sample, it is already a bonus.

    Wasn't that great for me

Many great reviews online for this router. However, it didn't work so well for me. I could not get the 802.11n at 2.4Ghz to work at even 1/2 the speed of my older netgear WNDR4300 N750 router and I was only 2 feet away! I tried everything: changing channels, locking to 802.11n, moving router away from everything, re-attaching antenas, changing angles of antennas, updating firmware, reverting to old firmware, etc, etc. I even chat'd with tech support. After about an hour of chatting about what I did and what I was seeing, all they had me do was to download a firmware file from their site and do a factory reset and..... drum roll... SAME THING! It was even the SAME firmware version I had already updated to and I had to re-set everything up again to find out. Fortunately the setup is very easy. Note that my old router was sitting right there. I would turn this one off and the old one on and connect the cable and boom, my speeds are back. I didn't have anything special configured, the channels were set to auto (I scoured the settings to see if there was anything special I had set that would explain the speed but nope). I was able to get 98Mbps on the linksys with a wired connection which matched my old router but I am buying this for wifi. The 5Ghz on 802.11n was much better but only around the same speed as my old router but again, I was only 2 feet away so it is only going to get worse since I am never sitting 2 feet away. So, no more wasting my time since I'm not getting paid to try to figure out why this thing isn't living up to it's promise and take it back. Glad I bought it at BestBuy since returning will be much easier than shipping it back. I bought this mainly for the USB3 storage speed and the 802.11ac. Unfortunately I decided not to even try either since all but 1 of my devices is 802.11ac and half are 802.11n on 2.4Ghz so this router isn't going to work for me. The web interface was easy to use but I thought some things could have been organized better to be more intuitive. For example, finding where to update the firmware I think was as intuitive as netgear's layout. Although they could use some improvements as well (and maybe I will find out if they have improved.,..)

I bought this router to provide WIFI signal in the upstairs of my house. We have Verizon FIOS, and the gateway is in the basement. The service is very good, but the signal was not reaching up through the house. The house is old, built in 1929, with very solid walls, and other interference. The Linksys 1900 setup was pretty straightforward. The signal is very strong- I can easily connect to it from my shed in the backyard. Issues: 1. Cost. Not cheap by any stretch. 2. It could be easier/more intuitive to add as a bridge to an existing setup. 3. After a reboot, it changed its SSID back to original settings, blowing away my configuration. I would buy again, but they would sell more by lowering the price!

      Hi, Billman1965,

We appreciate your feedback for the Linksys WRT1900ACS, and for letting us know about your experience with the unit. Changing back to default settings after a reboot is very unusual. This is not a normal behavior as the settings will only change to default when the unit is reset. However, a firmware update can help to correct it: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=165487

My review is of the linksys wrt1900acs dial band wifi router. I receved this router free through the freids and family Linksys product testing for my unbiased review. I was having multiple network issues throughout our house between 2 network switches, a router, and cable modemn. I was sceptical at first, but this wifi router is a beast. It uploads and dowloads at amazing speeds across hardwired and wireless. All of out issues got resolved once we upgraded to this router. I love the app that you can access the router from anywhere. We haven't had any issues with our network once we replaced our old router with this unit. You will not be disappointed with this router.
