This is probably the best Linksys Router that I have ever owned. I've had quite a few of them. This thing runs circles around all the previous models. I really like the built VPN capabilities.

    Fantastic Router

Pros: This is a great router. It has actually replaced two routers in our home. A TP-Link and an Apple Extreme router. The one we have actually has faster Wi-Fi speeds than it does Ethernet speeds. The speeds are fantastic. On the 2.4 Ghz bands, I get roughly 100Mbps down and 12Mbps up through my ISP. Haven't been able to run on the 5.0 Ghz bands as my father has commandeered those for his own use. Support was fantastic once we finally got to the right department (See below). Cons: The setup was horrid. It took us 4 hours to get it setup. We finally got it setup after talking with a great lady in Linksys Tech Support.

    A feature packed router.

I have been using this router for a while and have had very good results. I have sometimes as many as 15 devices going at one time and the router seems to handle the traffic well. There are a few spots in my house that the coverage is not as good as I expect it to be, but overall not a serious issue. I do have to reset the router occasionally to alleviate some devices having issues connecting. I also have two network drives attached to this router and this feature works very well. Overall very satisfied with the router. This router was provided to me free of charge by Linksys in exchange for my honest feedback.

Linksys has always done the best job of building routers that are easy to setup and configure while not skimping on any features an advanced user may require.

    Disappointed

Purchased to replace aging Netgear router, with hopes for improved speed and range. Setup completed in less than 5 minutes, very easy. Initially very pleased by speed (130+ Mbps download for both wired and 5ghz, and ~80 Mbps for 2.4 ghz). Range was ok, but no real overall improvement from Netgear router. Frustrations began about 24 hours after install, when download speeds seemed to be throttled and maxed out at about 40 Mbps, for both wired and wireless. Troubleshooting, I bypassed Linksys router and plugged my iMac directly into ISP modem to determine if it was ISP related or if my new router. Directly wired produced 130+ Mbps download speed, so I know it is router. I did a hard reset of the router back to factory defaults, and then setup a 2nd time. Router worked fine with top speeds for about 30 hours, then dropped to 40 Mbps again. Rinse, lather, repeat. After 3rd time I am done. I configured my router by changing SSID's and passwords, other than that I accepted default configuration. And I did update to latest firmware. Upon posting to Linksys support forum, I found that this is a VERY commonly known issue with no Linksys provided fixes. The latest firmware update did not fix issue. The forums recommended installing DD-WRT (with mixed success) however this would immediately void the warranty. Really wanted this router to run as well as it looked. Oh well, will be returning to Best Buy for an exchange.

    Solid Router

Note: I received a free sample from Linksys in exchange for my feedback I replaced my linksys EA6500 with the WRT1900ACS and was rewarded with better wifi speeds and range. The antennas feel a lot sturdier than some other routers (I was also using a TRENDNET TEW-827DRU. The only trouble I've had is trying to configure the router manually over the LAN ports...the router took a long time to respond then asked for a password I hadn't setup. After many attempts I was able to find this password in small print inside the included manual (the other passwords were on the router itself).

    Top of The Line Router

Well my other Linksys router finally gave up after about 5 years of hard work. So I spent the extra money to get this AC router with all the horse power I could use. And I mean to tell you the difference is amazing. I use a VPN with encryption and do a lot of downloading but this router has a massive processor inside it that keeps up with me just fine. Plus the wireless is very very powerful as far as signal strength goes. I am very glad I chose this router.

    Have to reset every night

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The setup was easy, but every single morning the router is not connected to the internet again. Every morning we have to unplug the router and replug it in so that we have an internet connection again. Last night I was online late and watched my internet connection suddenly stop. We aren't using it all day, only after we get home from work so it is only being used for about 5-6 hours a day.

First let me state that I received a free sample from Linksys in exchange for my honest feedback. This modem has been solid with no drop outs but I have not noticed any increase in speed from my last modem. This is a solid modem with good general coverage.

I finally broke down and bought my own router because I was having problems with the internet provider's standard issue router. It was failing and I was losing my WiFi intermittently. I set up this new Linksys router and my WiFi speed is off the charts, no problems whatsoever!

Extended area of coverage is a mere 20 feet. Strength of signal is poor. Works well only when I'm close proximity, ei. 10 feet. Does not measure up to advertisements. Definitely over priced for its performance. Grade C+

      Hi, CRANS,

Poor Wi-Fi coverage is not what we expected for this router. Allow us to help in optimizing its performance. Please try channels 1, 6, 9 and 11 for the 2.4 GHz frequency band, and channels 36, 40, 44 and 48 for the 5 GHz. It is also recommended to keep your router's firmware up-to-date. Send us an email at [email protected] so we can assist you accordingly. Don't forget to include your contact details, the title and link to this review for reference.

      We'll wait for your email.

    Poor stability

It was easy to install and I was very happy to find OpenVPN already installed on the router. Everything was excellent... except the stability. When internet dropped down first time, I thought OK maybe it is just something... then it happened again, then I lost the whole network. I updated firmware, I moved it to some different locations. I believe I tried all logical things but no luck. Thank you Bestbuy for taking it back. Finally I use my 4 years old router. It is slower but never dropping the connection.

      Hi, dimosbarbos,

Your feedback is of great value. Dropping of internet connection is not acceptable with your Linksys WRT1990ACS router. To resolve this challenge, it is recommended to reset the router, reflash the firmware using a wired PC, then reset the router again. We would also suggest to change the 2.4Ghz radio mode from default "Mixed" mode, to B/G/N-only. If you decide to purchase a Linksys router in the future, we will be gladly welcome you back as our valued customer and help you answer any questions or challenges you may have. You may reach out to us at [email protected] along with your contact details and the link to this review for reference. We would be more than willing to lend a hand.

Went off of reviews and was assured this was the router for me, replacing a older netgear. While the router had great range and good speed throughout, I was one of the ppl who had to constantly reboot. I read a few reviews from others who had the same issue. Loved the app and its features but will not miss the constant rebooting!

      Hi, gsxRtone,

Your feedback is important to us, and we appreciate your bringing this to our attention. Constant disconnects or reboots is clearly not acceptable. Allow us to make this right for you. To improve the performance of your Linksys WRT1900ACS router, we recommend doing a factory reset, followed by reflashing the firmware, and resetting the router again. If this process is successful, please proceed in changing 2.4Ghz radio mode from default "Mixed" mode, to B/G/N-only. Should you need further assistance, get in touch with us at [email protected] along with your contact details and the link to this review for reference. We would be more than willing to help you out.
