Plug it in.. it works! But no good OpenWrt support

Mediocre performance with stock firmware, and the claims made about OpenWRT and open source in general are misleading. Hardware revisions have crippled the open source communities ability to support this hardware. Adequate for average plug and prey use, but not so friendly from a geeks perspective!

Great product for large areas where wifi is needed

We had originally purchased a regular wifi router, but it didn't have a far enough range for our long house. We looked at this router and the more expensive model that you have to buy extenders that go in individual room outlets. This product was half the price of the unit that uses outlets and works very well for us. We have a full wifi signal throughout the house.

This Router is very powerful for what we use it for and it handles all of our devices. We have 2 android phones,2 blu ray players.smart TV,laptop, tablet, and 2 desktops and it doesn't slow down at all.Range is excellant the only thing I have noticed is it reboots occasionally seems it could be a software or firmware issue but I think Linksys will fix that.

We had an emergency... Our old Linksys router died and we both work from home. I did a lot of research and ultimately went with what I know. Setup was a breeze... Very intuitive! So far the speed and connectivity have been good.

I upgraded my 5 year old Linksys with this router to update my network to accommodate Netflix streaming and all the new added devices connected to my wifi. It is working good after a few months installed. It was easy to install. I did have to call customer support for help with compatibility with a TV service router connection, and the support person was very helpful and knew exactly what I needed and gave me step by step instructions. The range is good. I have it installed in a first floor main communications box connected wirelessly to computers on the second floor. I'm happy with this router so far since installing it.

Not sure what to say, the product does mostly what the OEM and box claim it will do. The product is very easy to set-up; this type of thing is not in my wheel house, but I got it done quickly and long before throwing anything. Phone app is easy to use and handy as well. My only disappointment was the signal strength throughout the house (2700-ish sqft). The router is pretty centrally located on the first floor (entry way office set up); the second floor had 0-1 bars of service and the attached garage had nothing. Ended up needing a range extender which solved the problem but added another 3 digit fee of course.

      Hi, Displacer,

It's good to hear that you've added a range extender to boost the signal on the second floor and to your garage. You may consider assigning fixed channels for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network and check if the signal improves without using the extender. Try channels 1, 6, 9 and 11 for the 2.4 GHz, and channels 36, 40, 44 and 48 for the 5 GHz. Should you need a hand, feel free to contact us directly at [email protected], anytime. One of our Escalation Engineers will assist you.

Was about to buy the older model of this unit but then noticed this new one and decided to wait until the price drop before I purchase it. Sure didn't have to wait long, it came down in price within two months of being on my watch list. The router performance is excellent and I get a good signal even out in my backyard which is about 30ft away.

Setup was very easy for me and I am also using it for my lan connections. Wifi signal is strong and doesn't drop and I love that it shows the topography of your connections (so can see all the devices using it).

Disclaimer: I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends & Family Program Unbox and Setup When I received this product, my first impression was wow, this thing is huge. The router has a very large base and four large antennas. It definitely takes up a lot of space on my desk, much more than my old Asus router. Plugging it in and turning it on, I noticed it booted faster than any router I have ever used. There is also a fan to cool this beast, but it is not noticeable unless you are really close. I ran through the guided setup and everything went relatively smoothly. All of the important topics are covered in the process such as changing the router password and turning on and setting up wifi security. My issues though were that the 5GHz WiFi SSID could not be changed and also, the automatic update was enabled by default. I prefer manually updating because I like to read changelogs and see if it would be worth updating. Also, it is best to have your ISP modem (in my case, a cable modem) off while setting up. I had to power cycle mine twice before the router finally saw it. For advanced users who do not like using guided setup, there is an option to skip and manually configure everything. I found that option to be a nice addition since I typically manually setup my routers. In this case, I wanted to see how the guided setup worked. Throughput Before I put this router into service, I tested throughput of my old Asus router on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands in several different house locations. I then did a comparative test when I got this router up and running. For reference purposes, the router is located in the very front of my house. The wifi throughput on the new router was less than stellar. I saw an average drop of 22% of my download throughput on the 5GHz side and a 56% drop on 2.4GHz. The main difference was at the back of my home where the signal degradation was the most noticeable. After going into the router and tweaking some of the settings, I saw a marked improvement in all areas of my home. Even my garage, where my old router signal could not reach, I was getting a solid signal and throughput. Speeds on all devices were very consistent. I was able to have multiple Netflix, Amazon, and Crackle streams going on televisions while I was downloading files on my PC and my son was playing multiplayer on his Xbox One. After getting it going, the router performance has been solid. Extras For the price of this router, one would expect several extras to be included. This router does deliver in that category. Included is a separate dual band Guest Network where you can allow guests to connect through the router to your internet connection without having access to the home network. There is also a network map to easily see all devices connected to the router. On the back of the router is a dual port USB2.0/ESATA and also a separate USB3.0 connection. Combine this with more RAM and a faster CPU than other products and streaming large video files from an external hard drive and USB flash drive works great. No buffering or problems. There is also the option to control your router from anywhere using your smartphone and Linksys app. One final feature that not everyone will utilize is the open source firmware. Although this is a WRT model, there are very few, if any, stable options for this router currently. I hope we will see some Tomato or DD-WRT builds in the future. Also, since this router is compatible with 802.11ac, I would like to have seen an option for the 80MHz channel width on the 5GHz side. Minor detail there and it may be enabled in future firmware updates. Conclusion I was not sure I would ever see a router that could cover my entire one story house, not to mention my detached garage, with a stable signal. This router made a believer out of me. It has excellent range and throughput. I knocked off one star for having to tweak the settings a little minor issues during setup. I know the price for this product is a premium, but you probably will not need to upgrade this router for quite some time. If your current router is not covering everywhere you need, give this product a try.

This replaced a netgear that fried in a storm. Super simple setup, easy to use, speeds seem fast. Only issue so far is everything shows up as LAN verse wireless and either 2.4 or 5ghz for wireless devices
