Bought this to replace on that a storm took out. It works okay but at time will lose the ability to stream. I have 150 MPS, from Cox Communications, however very rarely have that kind of speed, usually around 6MPS unless I call Cox and have them adjust it.

My old beer can shaped router didn't project the signal very far especially the 5ghz. I definitely needed an upgrade, but I just didn't realize how much until I hooked up the linksys ac2200. Night and day difference with the strength of signal and 5 ghz range is accentuated by adding a velop wireless extender. Setup was easy and straight-forward after downloading the Linksys app to my phone. I find the app makes connecting and checking my system much easier than having to type the gateway and logging in with the old unit. I can even set priority to certain devices so they get maximum bandwidth over others. Having 2 5ghz bands helps with managing all household connected devices. The box suggests this unit is ideal for 100-300mbps internet plans so if you have more than this, I would suggest getting an AC3200 or above to get the speed transferred in wifi. I'm happy with the MU-MIMO tech and how it manages the connections. It's an impressive unit and is expandable without creating a new wifi setup which is great for the future pool house or home theater.

I have had the opportunity to test and use the Lynksys Mesh Nodes for months and now had the opportunity to test the latest in the Lynksys Mesh Hubs the MR8300 Max Stream AC2200 Tri-Band router, which you can build onto with its companion nodes. What this product is. The MR8300 is part of Lynksys mid-range product level router, that offers a nice balance of performance, price, and mesh expandability. The price when tested was $199.99 and at this price point, you can't go wrong with the choice of router. It can be used as a stand-alone router in smaller areas such as an apartment but can be expanded with the nodes (depending on which nodes you have) can expand and cover up to an area of a 4500 sq.ft. home. Now that's adaptability I can live with. After two weeks of testing I can tell you without a doubt this router has great coverage and though it doesn't have the upload speed or download speed of its sister product the EA9500 for the price point here it is well worth the look. It has 4 ports, and 4 antennas, a USB 3.0 for future expansion. I gave this four stars due to its overall look as its antennas and its base footprint are a bit large and maybe a bit of a shock at first. the overall performance is very fast and reliable. So really a 4.5-star review.

Ok so I've been testing out the all new Linksys MR8300 Max Stream AC2200 TriBand Mesh WiFi Router for the last week and I'm blown away. Linksys continues developing amazing hardware. I've been a lifelong Linksys fan from back in the day. Inside the package is the MR8300 Max Stream Router, power adapter, Ethernet cable, a Velop node, and the usual user manual/documentation. Connecting the router is very simple as Linksys helps you set up everything by following the prompts from the companion app, which can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play Store. Took me about 8 minutes to get everything connected and up and running. I placed the Velop node in my bedroom which tends to have weak to no coverage. Once the Velop connected with the router, my WiFi signal greatly increased and all of my WiFi connected devices worked a lot faster and smoother. I would recommend this router and Velop node system to anyone looking to expand their WiFi coverage throughout their house. Very great product.

      Hi Thisguya,

It's odd that the Linksys MR8300 Mesh router is giving you such challenges when it comes to its signal strength. Our Escalation Engineers would like to take a closer look at your experience and help you figure out what's causing this to happen. Performance so consistent you’ll forget your Wi-FI

If you’re not technical, or you just want to get a router setup securely with as little fuss and time spent as possible, this router is a good fit. Setup is super easy using an iOS or Android app. I was running in about 5 minutes. You must create an account with Linksys, there is no option to opt out. If this bothers you, I suppose you can get a new email account on a free service to use just for this. When the last time you updated your router firmware? A bit of hassle to check for updates and then download and apply when one comes out. But staying secure has become a bigger issue lately. This router eases that burden with automatic updates. Once setup, new router firmware updates will automatically download and apply at a time you set. This router supports MU-MIMO (multiuser, multiple input, multiple output). What does this add? First you need to know how older basic Wi-Fi worked. Older Wi-Fi routers shared one signal among all devices. Each device gets a slice of the pie. The more devices you add, the thinner those slices get. This results in slower speeds and even connection reliability issues. MU-MIMO provides each device its own signal stream as if each user has their own personal router. Each device has a full pie instead of a slice. This gives you a steady faster connection than routers without MU-MIMI. And it’s all automatic. With most devices being wireless, this should be a must have feature in your router purchase. The router has ‘Beamforming Technology’ which adjusts power differently to the four antennas to adjust the signal beam so more signal goes to devices. Instead of a consistent circle or signal strength that gets weaker with distance, you end up with multiple ovals of signal strength between the router and devices. Over the past year I got into the Smart home big time. I also added a few streaming devices, security cameras, and had tablets, laptops, game consoles, a desktop, over 30 devices now. My old router Wi-Fi was feeling the strain. The picture from Netflix was pixilating frequently and dropping out more and more as my device was not getting enough of the signal to play the movie consistently. Performance on all devices was slower and drops were becoming frequent. This new router solved those growing pain issues. I brought all my cameras and other devices on-line now, over 40 items are now all working flawlessly. If you are going to buy a new router, why not get one that supports a mesh network? The mesh ability allows you to add remote nodes that repeat your Wi-Fi signal to increase your range and speed in weak signal areas. Even if you find that you do not need mesh now, your future proofed for future moves or changes in router placement or other factors that may develop. I have the router in the basement of my house and the signal is very good there and on the main floor of my 1,600 sq. ft. house. The farthest end on the second floor drops to 3/5 bars, sometimes dropping to just 2/5 bars. I had some issues streaming HD video in that room. I added a VELOP mesh extender in the hall on the second floor, roughly above the router. I no longer have issues streaming video in HD anywhere. Adding the node was easy, it took less than 10 minutes to fix this. The signal to my 2nd floor office now remains consistent. VPN’s are sensitive to drops, yet I have had a VPN open to my work for over 2 weeks without a single drop. This was not possible with my old router I would lose connection daily hen it sat idle too long. My PC supports 5 GHz and this seems to be much stronger and faster than the old 2.4 GHz signal. The stronger signal also allows me to view my outside cameras reliably in HD instead of SD as before. This router will support seriously fast GIG Internet. The wired Ethernet and WAN ports all support Gigabit speeds. The Wi-Fi has Tri-Band speed up to 2.2 Gb. What speed you will see wirelessly depends on many factors unique to your home. I have Gig Internet at home, but did not see the speed I was hoping to see on some informal Wi-Fi benchmarks. Wired is still faster. But it is more than fast enough and more importantly consistent everywhere. This router does advanced setups as well such as becoming an Access point to an existing network. You can also use this in bridge mode to connect wired devices over a wireless connection to another wireless router or access point. I work from home and between work and home I have more Wi-Fi connected devices than most people typically have. This router is handing them all perfectly. No more drops, no pixilation, just consistent performance throughout my home.

My initial impression of this router is great overall. Here is a breakdown review to help with your purchase. Unboxing: The box is average quality and inside you will find the router neatly packed, a CAT 5e cable (a little short in my opinion), the AC adaptor and simple documentation. Set up: I went the android app route to set this up. Setting up the router itself was extremely seamless. You turn it on, plug in the internet, when it is steady purple you set it up on the app. Name your network and give it a password and it does the rest. You can set it up online via your Linksys account or locally if you wish. The only snag I had in set up was when pairing it with a Linksys Velop plug in node. It just took a few tries since it wasn’t having much luck finding the device. When it did it was solid though. Performance: I have had hit or miss issues with routers in my house in the past. Most will give great performance but can’t reach certain parts of my house, mainly the master bedroom. My location for the router is not ideal, in the basement but until I wire the connection upstairs, I am stuck with the location. Mesh seemed like the ideal solution here. I set up the router in the downstairs office and put the plug-in node upstairs. In most areas I get close to max internet speeds on my network about 130-150 mbps down and 130-150 mbps up (Frontier FiOS). My bedroom used to get about 1-2 mbps both ways with old routers, this one is giving me between 20-50 mbps in there with the mesh set up. I am not sure what is causing the slow down in that room whether it be interference or materials near the room, but this eliminates any dead zones in my house. 4k streaming in my house was perfect on all devices that support it on both floors. My ping averages 4 ms downstairs and 6 ms upstairs. I was able to stream and play games on devices via Steam and a Nvidia Shield with no hiccups anywhere in my house where there is a TV. Great performance overall! Design: In short, it is simplistic. It doesn’t look great or bad, just average. This is a single indicator on board that changes colors and four antennae. It doesn’t offend and it doesn’t start conversations. Ports/connectivity: Overall good. There are four gigabit ethernet connections, a USB 3.0 (type A) connector, the WAN ethernet port, and the wireless allows for AC 2200 via tri band connectivity. The frequencies are 2x 5ghz and 1 2.4 ghz at 2x2. Each band supports x2 AC 867 and 1x N 400. The website also states is uses BT 4.1 LE for purpose of app-based setup. Interface: The app is pretty good overall allowing control of most major things including wifi, DNS, devices, guest access, parental controls, prioritization (only 3 devices), internet stings, port settings, mac filtering and LAN settings. I would say 90% of things can be done through the app. For anything else, you can use your browser for setup. Overall: Great for most users. My only change would be a little more of an exciting design on the hardware. The device works great, has great expandability through the Velop ecosystem, is very stable and easy to use!

I bought this because my Apple router was so old and I wanted something to replace it and still have control of my Wi-Fi in my house… the setup was terrible and several calls to geek squad and to linksys. I finally returned it and my old Apple Time capsule was back and running perfect in 5 minutes. Since then I have upgraded to an Eeos 6 mesh router which now reaches to the very back of my property. I miss my Apple just because, but the Linksys was the worst right out of the box.
