First off I want to say that this is an excellent router. It has the quality, and performance that I have come to expect from Linksys. I have used this for about two months, and the following are my impressions. Setup through the Linksys app was a breeze. Very easy, and anyone could do it. Once setup was complete I was surprised to see only my network name. No separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks. I believe the mesh WiFi seamlessly switches between whatever network has the best signal strength at the time. This is a great feature, but also gave me my only hiccup with the product. Some of my smart home devices that will only hook up to a 2.4ghz network didn't want to connect. Fixing this was as easy as going into the app, and checking the box that says I want to display 2.4 and 5ghz networks separately. Since then everything has been rock solid. I have in fact been VERY impressed with the performance of this router. It can handle as many devices as I can throw at it without a hitch. Streaming TV's, tablets, phones, game consoles, smart home devices, and more all running at once without a hitch in performance whatsoever. Overall this is a fantastic router, and I would recommend it to anyone in the market for one.

This router has virtually no configuration options: its sets itself up and thats that. No 5Ghz, just 2.4 fro what I could see. Can only be set up via an app - no IP address to plug in and use. Very dissappointed - overpriced at Best Buy too.

      Hi, txcapri,

The router has a mesh capability and it uses the same SSID and password for the 5GHz and 2.4GHz network in order for the seamless feature to work. It also has a channel finder which will automatically choose the less-congested channels that fit for your network environment. Moreover, you also have an option to set this up using the Linksys App or via browser depending on your preference. Get in touch with us at [email protected] if you need more details and assistance with the MR8300 router so we can lend you a hand. Don’t forget to include a link to this post as our reference.

Linksys MR8300 What’s in the box ————————— * Linksys MR8300 Max Stream™ AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi Router * Ethernet cable * Power adapter * Owner's manual Pros —— * Easy App based setup, yet functions as a regular router (you can access the controls through web browser) * Works with Velop Mesh Routers * Excellent range even without Velop mesh * 4 Gigabit ports onboard of this router * MU-MIMO support for multi-device speedy access of internet * Guest access - so that you don’t have to share the wifi password with your friends when they are home and waiting to use the internet * Parental controls. - Monitor your kids activities & set schedule * 1 USB 3 interface for connecting hard drive if needed Cons —— * There is no way to get around the app based setup first time around. But once you are setup, you can login into the router * Cannot setup different SSID for 2.4 and 5GHZ while setup The Review —————— I am coming off a ASUS RT68U AC-1900 which is a pretty good router and it actually covers my 3000 soft pretty well. Now, I can say that this workhorse can beat the ASUS router by a wide margin and when paired with one Velop node, it can really sing! I also got a velop node to pair alongside with this router and I can get a full 100Mbps download speed at every point in my house (my internet speed is 100/100) The setup was pretty straight forward. Download the Android app(you also have an IOS App) and then connect to the router through the default password and it has step by step on how to configure the router. Once the router is setup, the app also helps in setting up the velop nodes. Once the setup is fully complete, you can actually login into the router for complex configurations through the web Browser. Although , most of the fictionality is available on the app itself like parental controls, device prioritization, guest wifi setup etc. One thing I noted is that, if you want to setup different password for 2.4 and 5Ghz lines you will need to actually login through the router via a web browser. Once the setup is actually complete, I was able to connect 1 five tv, 1 roku, 1 smart things, a few smart devices, 4 tablets , 3 phones. The router was able to handle peak load during the time wherein a lot of devices were using the internet. I tested the prior dead spots which i had with my ASUS router and this link sys router was abler to fill in the gaps. I am very impressed. i was even able to connect a hard drive to read movies off the drive and the read/write speed was acceptable. My gripe with the prior router was that for upgrade , I had to actually login into the router, upload a file to be able to update the firmware on the router. With constant cyber crimes happening, its important to make sure the firmware on the router is always upto date. With my prior router, I might have upgraded the firmware probably one. With the link sys router, I do not have to worry about upgrading firmware as it takes care of the upgrades automatically. love the feature. Overall, I like the router, it functional, its modern and works with velop!!

Thanks for reading my review, I hope it helps you. Simply the router is good with a trick at the end. I pay for 200mpbs of speed and everytime I tested this router it gave me 150-160 wireless which is good. I have over 15 devices connected with usually half of them using the internet at the same time. That being said I never had connection issues in my almost two weeks of using it. This is a good router but the thing that helped it earn the five star rating is that you can expand above its original capabilities. Let me explain, if you bought this for an apartment that was 1000 sq feet but than moved into a home that's doubled that you can buy a mesh router attachment to expand it. Usually you would get a universal one and when you checked the speed or would be 40-50 on my internet. Which a proper expansion I would get 140-150 which is right where the main unit is. Simply put I recommend this for the majority of all users who want a good router if your needs go into full router control with a app or you pay for higher speeds than you may want to go up a model or two.

This router is great. Easy to setup and good speed. The coverage is excellent with the extender that just plugs into a wall socket. This router is a big help for all of my smart home devices. 1) Ran through the setup. It couldn’t find the internet. I work in IT and yes it was all plugged in correctly. Called tech support. He ran me through the same infinite setup loop as the app. Finally gave up. 2) I refuse to set up an account with Linksys to use the admin page on my own router. There is no legitimate reason for that. I ended up plugging my ancient Airport Extreme back it (which didn’t have any problem finding the internet).

    Dynamic Compact WiFi router

This WiFi router is a power house! I have used my provider’s WiFi router for the past 6 months on their high speed internet and I figured things couldn’t get any better, but here recently I have noticed that during peak hours of the evening my ability to stream had faded quite a bit. I figured it was due to everyone being home during these hours. Then I got the opportunity to give this dynamic compact router a try and just like that my ability to stream is above and beyond what I thought it could be. This paired with the AC 1500 has my network streaming throughout my house with blazing speeds. Through the Linksys app it took me a matter of minutes to set everything up. This app have given me the ability to tune the network to my liking. I have great reception of my network even outside all around my 1.5 acres of land. I have fallen for this little gem and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their home network.

This may be a great product, but someone that is lacking in smarts, decided to make it mandatory to use an app to set up the router. The app is beyond buggy, I've been trying to setup my router for 4 hours now and the purple light just stays stuck on, the setup won't progress. I gave up trying to call support, because all I get is someone who is hard to understand in the Philippines and after 12 calls im still refused a connection with a US based agent or anyone who knows what they're doing. So upset that I've wasted so much time on this garbage,
