    Can't Hide SSID

I purchased this for a non-profit sports club to use and I am highly disappointed. First I can not find an option to hide the SSID which is usually a pretty standard option on routers. The other issue I have is been getting it to work with a DSL modem and pppoe. It will work fine for a day then it forgets the login information. I have updated the firmware and still have issues.

Awesome High Performance Router with Easy Setup

I must admit that I was once a Linksys fan, but became disillusioned with their products a few years ago when their quality appeared to decline. Specifically, I was unhappy with the router firmware. As a result of my past opinion, I entered into this review with a bit of a skewed opinion. My low expectations were quickly exceeded when I downloaded the Linksys iOS app and began the setup process. The process was quick, straight forward, and seamless. I was replacing an Apple Time Capsule, with an extensive array of smart home and entertainment devices connected, as well as several computers, and iOS devices. As a result, the simplest move was to set up the new Linksys router using the Time Capsule's SSID, password, and IP address settings for the local network. I was able to quickly and easily change the router IP subnet from the 192.168.1.1 which is the Linksys default to the 10.0.1.1 used by the Time Capsule. As soon as the router came online, all my devices reconnected, and life was good. So far the app is my favorite feature of this router. I've only used it on the local network, but it also promises seamless remote administration. I'm looking forward to trying this out in the next few days. I also really like the devices page, which lists all the devices connected to the router with a wireless or wired connection, and it even allows you to edit the name, and appears to store the information by MAC address, so that even if the device reconnects and is assigned a different IP, the router will remember the device name. AND, the SPEED! Running a speed test from my iPhone using speedtest.net used to return results of around 60 Mbps with the Time Capsule. I ran a speed test immediately after installing this router and the result was 130 Mbps, OVER WiFi!!!! I've run a few more tests from a number of devices over the past 24 hours, and I'm getting speeds in that range consistently. This is most impressive since Spectrum only promises me 100 Mbps at the modem. I also received the Velop 1300 plug-in mesh network extender, and setup was a breeze following the guided instructions in the app. Performance when connected via the extender appears to be identical to performance when connected to the router. On a final note, this router also offers device prioritization, so if you want the Roku in the living room to stream regardless how much bandwidth your kid is trying to hog playing video games, you simply give the Roku priority over all other traffic, and the router will throttle the signal to the gaming system to prevent the Roku's stream from being degraded. Pretty sweet!

Bought this with the thought that my 1800 square foot house was not big enough to need a mesh solution. Found out that I was wrong so I purchased a second one to see how the Velop product worked. Even with the two routers side by side, the second node would never get added. I returned both items and went with Ubiquiti ApmliFi Mesh. MUCH HAPPIER!

      Hi,

We appreciate your review and, we understand your decision. We could have tried to use the Channel Finder on the Linksys app to optimize the Velop network since wireless interference could cause some issues and, make sure that the firmware is updated.

If you need assistance with other Linksys device, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with the link to this review and, we'll have our Escalation Engineers look into it.

    Very Easy Setup- Reliable Signal

The setup was very easy and since its installation the signal strength has been great. I have not experienced signal loss and with the addition of the wifi node, the signal is reaching parts of the house that had previously experienced low signal strength. I primarily use it for gaming and streaming but some devices that had issues such as my wifi camera in the garage are now a thing of the past as the signal strength carries further and the node closes any coverage gap. I truly enjoy it and recommend it for the person looking for stable and complete coverage.

I’ve had this router for over 6 months now and about 3 months ago I started to have a lot of issues (connection dropping, very slow speeds, etc...). Resetting the router works for a day or so and then same thing repeats. I replaced an older nighthawk router that lasted me 4 years. This thing is junk. I’ll be going back to netgear.

      Hi, Steve,

Factors such as frequency interference from other Wi-Fi devices, or outdated firmware could’ve caused the challenges you’re encountering with the Linksys device. Tweaking some settings such as the wireless channel and ensuring the firmware is up to date can help optimize the device’s performance.

If you still have the router with you, we’d like to have our Escalation Engineers take a closer look at this and provide further isolation. Get in touch with us at [email protected] with your contact details and the link to this post as a reference.

      Hi Baby,

It is possible that there is too much physical interference for the Wi-Fi to reach the other floors of your house. If you want, we can have our Second Level Technicians contact you for further recommendations on where to place the router to maximize its range.

Just send us your contact details at [email protected] so that we can escalate your case. Don't forget to include the link to this post as a reference.

Having used the mesh systems for internet, I was interested in trying this router to see how it compared. For the price, this offers excellent speed and connectivity features found in more expensive routers. One of the best features is if you need to expand further, you can connect it to a Velop wifi node to increase coverage. I used with with my 100 Mbps internet speed and found very good and consistent speed in all areas of the house. I used various devices including windows, iOS, and Android devices with each having similar experience. I would recommend this device if you are looking for a fair priced router.

Set up for this was terrible. You have to download an app and I'm not sure what was going on but it never seemed to pick up the router. It seemed that it either gets reviews that it's fantastic or you can't even use it. I couldn't use it and returned it.

      Hi, BoJangles,

The Linksys MR8300 mesh router should provide a stable connection. Please make sure that your connection from the modem is stable and, you can try to swap the ethernet cable to see if that will make any difference.

My daughter needed a new router for her new town home. She's a huge fan of streaming services so she needs a reliable and fast connection in all areas of her home. One of the great features of the MR8300 Max Stream™ AC2200 is the ability to add nodes around your home. I have a similar Linksys node setup in my home and it's the best router/system I've ever had. This is a quality router. Linksys continues to lead the way on continually innovating better router technology.

My main router is near the back of my house so any devices that are near the front and more importantly my doorbell camera have such weak signals. I have tried extenders and other ways to extend the signal but none seemed to do the trick. Thank goodness for this whole home WiFi from Linksys. It blankets my entire home, and I have equal speeds no matter where I am in my home. The install is extremely easy by using the native Linksys app on my phone it walked me through step by step it could not have been easier! So grateful for this hardware.

The Liinksys MR8300 is a another reliable Linksys product. Since Belkin took over Linksys from Cisco I feel as if their overall product line has improved considerably. The MR8300 brings Linksys' more traditional router design into the Velop family of mesh wireless. The MR8300 is super easy to setup and offers 4-port Gigabit LAN on the back which is great for those of us still using wired connections for supreme reliability. The router offers great parental controls such as internet pausing and scheduling through the app. The router doesn't offer many advanced features such as VPN or RADIUS functionality, but nails the basics. I was a tad disappointed with the lack of configurable, separate SSIDs for 5ghz and 2.4ghz channels, but the overall channel steering has been solid thus far with 32 devices attached. Range is great and throughput is easily on par with my Netgear Orbi. I am running the router in a three floor home centrally located on the middle floor. I did throw a Velop module into the mix to test the system, but it actually offered slower performance for devices connected to the satellite device. This was expected due to the lack of a dedicated wireless backhaul channel. For me the router by itself offered the range I needed without further expansion. The MR8300 represents a solid value in the wireless mesh router market for 2019. If you are already in the Velop family this probably won't bring anything you need to the table unless you are short on Ethernet capability. If you are new to the mesh network game then this router should be on your shortlist. Highly recommended.
