    Powerful Router with Mesh

This is a powerful router that provides the best of both worlds. It is a configurable ac2200 router with 4 Ethernet and 1 USB port which also provides mesh capabilty. I have previously used a velop mesh system and have been satisfied with performance. However, I was interested in how this router would perform with these nodes. The answer is that the router performs flawlessly with the existing mesh nodes including a velop wall plug. Both coverage and throughput were slightly greater than my previous all mesh system. In summary, I would highly recommend this router to anyone to who wants a high performance, flexible router that works seemlessly with the velop mesh system.

Great router except I can't reach my modem

I've had this router for about 2 1/2 weeks now and it is rock solid. It has excellent range and speed. I have a Gig down and I test at over 500Mbps wireless on my Samsung S9+. Some people complain about setup using the app, however, it was a breeze. The only problem is reaching my modem's UI. I have an Arris CM8200 modem and Cox is my ISP. I cannot reach my modem with 192.168.100.1. I'm working with Linksys to resolve this. It may be a firmware glitch. If not for this issue, the router would get 5 stars.

    Performance and Cost Converge

I got this router to replace an aging Google OnHub unit, which has served its purpose quite well but has been showing its age lately as the number of devices in the house have grown precipitously. When choosing a new router, I had two primary requirements; three band mesh capability and MU-MIMO ability. This Linksys MR8300 ticks both boxes, while delivering solid performance at a price point which is more palatable than some other offerings. Like many competitors, Linksys has opted to rely heavily on their mobile app for router setup. In this case, it works quite well, walking you through the steps and handling everything without issue. They've taken the guesswork out of the sometimes arduous task of setting up a router, and have also given users an easy, visual way to update settings in the process. Mesh capability was a must, and Linksys has opted to make the MR8300 Velop compatible. While only one router comes in the box, this capability offers a great deal of flexibility in system configuration; if the primary router doesn't blanket your entire house, you have a number of options at various price points for adding mesh nodes based on your needs. Not all mesh systems are created equally, with some systems relegating wireless node backhaul to the same 5ghz band used for broadcasting signal to devices. Thankfully, the MR8300 employs a tri-band setup, meaning it has a separate, dedicated 5ghz band used for node to node transmission, leaving the traditional 5ghz band solely for devices to router packets. This is a must in my eyes, and it works great here, as the MR8300 provides reliable and fast connection throughout my home. As mentioned above, MU-MIMO ability was also a requirement for me. This is one of the single greatest advancements in router technology over the past few years, and greatly mitigates the annoying packet queue problems of the past (especially important if you need a strong connection that doesn't waver at all, like some work VPN systems demand). Testing the router with multiple streaming and mobile devices simultaneously yielded the expected results; virtually no latency and fast performance all around. My system just felt snappier and more reliable. So far, I have no complaints with this router, perhaps other than that it looks like... a router. Whereas other options have a more contemporary (and possibly a more "wife friendly") approach to router design, Linksys has designed the MR8300 to look like a traditional router with the flat, stout base and quad external antennas sticking out the sides. For me, that's not a problem but for others, it might be if this needs to be in plain sight. Overall, this is a great way to upgrade your system to be mesh ready should it not cover your entire space, and comes at a competitive price point for the performance delivered.

    Amazing router with mesh compatibility!

The Linksys - MR8300 Max Stream AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi Router is a fantastic router that really comes in handy if you already own items from the Linksys Velop line of products and/or if your home has hard-wired ethernet. Even if neither or only one of these things applies to you, this is still a great router and I would highly suggest you go with this one if you are in the market for a new router. One of the reasons this router is such a great choice if you already have other Velop products is because of its mesh compatibility which makes it easy to extend your Wi-Fi coverage by simply adding additional Velop nodes to your network. This is all easily done via the Linksys app which does a great job of walking you through the process. Also, unlike the original Velop nodes, this router has four ethernet ports and one LAN port. The original Velop nodes only have two WAN/LAN ports which limits your ability to setup a wired network since one of the ports on the main router node must be used as a LAN port. This leaves only one ethernet port for wired devices and makes it difficult for those with hard-wired ethernet in their homes to truly take advantage of said wiring without additional equipment. If your home is hard-wired with ethernet and is too large to be covered by the Wi-Fi signal from a router on its own, this router combined with additional Velop nodes is your best option since the Velop nodes can be hard-wired back to the router which is far superior to having the nodes communicate back to the router wirelessly. This isn’t to say that the nodes do not work well wirelessly. The third band dedicated to backhaul communication actually seems to work very well but a wired backhaul will always be better than a wireless one. In my case, my home is 3 stories and has hard-wired ethernet connections but my router must be placed in the master bedroom closet on the third floor where my modem and hard-wired ethernet cables are all located. This obviously is not the ideal location for a router since a lot of the signal is lost with it being in a closet on the third floor. As a result, I have a Velop node located on the 1st floor of my home and hard-wired to the router. I then have two additional Velop plug-in nodes (the kind that simply plug into an electrical wall outlet with no ability to be connected via ethernet) on the 2nd floor of my home. These plug-in nodes are only dual-band but still seem to work quite well. Between all of this, I have a strong Wi-Fi connection no matter where I go in my house and I couldn’t be happier and it is all because of this router which is the focal point of it all. Overall, this is an incredible router that is extremely versatile and seemingly future-proof. It has the ability to work great no matter what your own situation is and I highly recommend it!

This router was extremely easy to set up. The app was simple to download and navigate to finish installation. The tri band works flawless and having the app lets you know what devices are being used and what band they are on. Got a real good price as it was on sale at Best Buy plus I was able to get it that day with no waiting with the so call prime 2 days which usually means 3 to 4 days with Amazon.

This router by itself provides powerful WiFi coverage. If you already have a Velop mesh system, this router will seamlessly integrate with it. If not, you can easily add additional nodes as your WiFi needs expand. The Velop mesh system has been the most reliable system I’ve used for 4K streaming and multiple system gaming. The three WiFi bands will provide plenty of bandwidth for multiple high speed connections.

Linksys was the only company I consider to be elite and it is for products like this. The mesh node is very cool, no longer do I need range extenders I just need to buy a new node and I can cover my whole house. The Wi-Fi in my house feels like I got a new cable company or something jicama and the app to go with us is mega cool as well. Do yourself a favor and get this now.

This is a great router. My previous setup was a LInksys Velop Whole Home WiFi System. Since this router has LInksys mesh support, I was able to tie it into the Velop system. I had one node connected to my cable router, then the other 2 nodes spread throughout my home. I’m able to get every more coverage because I now have this router connected to my cable router, and now I have 3 of the Velop nodes throughout my home. Great speed and connection.

From my experience with this line of Linksys (I also have an EA9500/AC5400) is that setup and getting going is very simple. The MR8300/AC2200 was much of the same; up and running in no time. Fine tuning and getting everything setup for your particular usage/household is where it starts to have problems. The default settings will get you off the ground and connected, but the options and various settings cause hiccups and almost seem to conflict with other settings, causing you to have to troubleshoot endlessly to see if it's variable A, variable B, or possibly variable C causing a coverage issue, or a time-out issue, etc etc etc If you have a simple setup -- a condo, apartment, smaller single level home -- I could see using this and being completely content. But, if you have kids (the parental settings are there, but do not really do much, and when they do do something, they cause a ripple effect that throws up errors here and there intermittently, so you're better off just turning the parental controls back off) or live in a larger home with lots of obstructions, the AC2200 likely won't be up to the task all by itself. Now, mine shipped with a bundled range extender - I don't know if this is going to be the case for ALL orders. Linksys may have realized some shortcomings and decided to include these going forward. At the end of the day if this is on sale for anything more than 50% off, it's a good purchase *if* the above characteristics fit your situation. If not? There's simply too many options in the router market to limit yourself to this model.

We've only had the router for a week so here's hoping my opinion doesn't change but it great so far! Our last router was a Netgear and died after about 4 years but it was a thorn in my side long before then. We constantly dealt with buffering and connectivity issues. We called our internet provider who would trouble shoot the issue, they would have us reset everything and it would work for a little while but eventually we ran into the same issue. We finally figured out it was the router so we called the company's tech support. Worst experience ever... only tried upselling and took us an hour to cut through the scripted responses to get actual assistance and get the router working again. When it stopped working the next time I was done, so I started looking for a replacement. After researching online and looking at different specs and details I realized I needed help so we headed to Best Buy. The guy at Best Buy, Art.N, that helped us made a very true statement..."Routers are one of those things you only learn about when you need one." He was so right. I appreciated his insight and he helped us select a router that works perfectly for our family!
