My old router was starting to bite the dust, and it was in service for me for quite a while, so I figured it was time to retire the thing and get a new router. This seemed to be the best reasonably-priced router I could find that I could pick up within a reasonable time span - aka now. (I should also take this moment to thank the Best Buy consultation services for their help with this - they actually treated me quite respectfully, and helped me eventually find and decide on this router!) I have to admit, I was a little worried from the brand name, since apparently it's had a reputation, but I also hadn't heard of them pushing updates that ruins router stability that they then never fix (like my last router's manufacturer did...), so I figured they were worth a shot. I figured, if worst comes to worst, I'm back to square one. Setup was a bit weird - it mandates the use of a mobile device - but after installation, the control panel could be accessed via desktop. The control panels seem straightforward, and don't feel like they came out of the early 2000s. Everyone in my apartment has been able to connect to the router just fine, and so far within these three days of having it in service, I haven't heard any complaints of slowness, disconnects, quirks, or what have you. If I start hearing such complaints, I'll let y'all know. The only gripes I have at the moment are nitpicks (for example, it'd be really nice if I could set a fourth high-priority device, and the fact you can only set 3 seems like a rather arbitrary limitation...) and aesthetics that ultimately have no bearing on functionality (I kinda liked having a bunch of lights on the front...) So, all in all, based on the setup experience and the ordinary usage experience so far, they've earned a 5 star rating. I'll try and remember to come back to this review down the line in a good few months if the experience is still going well. Notes: This router is being used across four different people in two different apartments in an older complex to share a fiber internet connection, with 2 PCs using a wired connection and the other 2 using 5GHz Wi-Fi. This router is not being used as part of a mesh network.

Haven't had any issues. The setup was done on a phone app and I had lost reception during the initial setup. Internet would only kinda work on my computer but not my TV's. I figured out that when I lost reception during the setup it didn't set up correctly. It showed full range but the internet was not working right and I couldn't connect my TVs. I was able to redo the setup and now it works great! Very happy with this purchase. Just know that if it isn't working correctly the try redoing the setup process. Solved all my issues≥

This router made a HUGE difference in our wifi speed and connection issues we had with the provided router from Windstream. Our wifi speeds were averaging 250-300 at best! Even tho we had a Gig plan we were paying for! And most nights it wouldn’t work for hours and the pages would just spin. It took 5 min to set this router up, and immediately we were getting speeds over 850mps. And we’ve had absolutely no connection issues since.

Combo Traditional Router + Velop Mesh = AMAZING

Linksys routers are pretty solid performers in my opinion. As of late, they have also been making strides in their whole home mesh systems which are traditionally made up of nodes. With the MR8300, Linksys has combined both capabilities into one router. Not only do you get the superior performance and range of a traditional router base over a node, but you also get the ability to add Velop mesh nodes as needed in one pretty seamless system. Setup was about as easy as it gets and is done via the required Linksys companion app. I have to give Linksys a lot of credit in this area as some companion apps are pretty worthless. That is not the case with the Linksys MR8300. It is about as close to plug and play as you get with a router. Once setup is complete (took me about 5 minutes or less), you can begin exploring all the functionality of the app and router. This includes parental controls, device prioritization, guess access, and time restrictions just to name a few. Now these are becoming pretty standard, but are also very important. One feature I did particularly appreciate was the ability to rename devices to names that are more meaningful than MAC addresses and obscure default device names. This is particularly helpful when you have a home full of devices. Build quality with the Linksys MR8300 is exactly what I've come to expect from Linksys. Very high quality. Packaging is superior to most. When you remove the MR8300 from it's box, you feel like you have something substantial in your hands and not a cheap piece of plastic equipment. Performance wise, the MR8300 provides excellent coverage over my home. The included Velop mesh node was as easy to setup as the initial router and provided further extended coverage into most of my back yard which is where I like to spend a lot of time in the warmer months. Speed tests at all locations showed an approximately 20% increase over previous tests at those locations that had coverage before. In conclusion, I would highly recommend the Linksys MR8300 for anyone looking to replace their old home router with the reliability and functionality of a traditional router while allowing for the ability to expand your network as you need by simply adding the number of nodes that you need. Pros: *Speed *Quality *Functionality of companion app *Price (Especially given your ability to expand if needed) Cons: *None
