Certainly, this is not the experience that we want you to have with the extender. There are 2 applicable configurations for the Linksys RE6300 - as a range extender (wireless to the router) and as an access point (wired to the router). Make sure to select the correct configuration. Also, for the range extender configuration, the best spot is in between the router and the device(s) that are out of range.

If it improves the WiFi range, it is so minuscule as to be barely detectable. I have moved it multiple times and it still does not improve the signal in my attached garage (separated by a single wall). I had hoped it would make it easier to use my Chamberlain WiFi enabled garage door opener and camera.

The 1st was the actual Wi-Fi router and it would never send out a signal you could connect to. This was just a repeater it would show on the list but you couldn't connect to it either and when you did it didn't have Internet.

Don’t be cheap

After setting up my 2.4 and 5 network, I placed the extender well within 1000 sqft of my router and the signal wouldn’t connect. After the 4th or 5th trying, I was finally able to connect to my 2.4 ext network at a much, much reduced speed (5-10 mbps). I could not get into the extended 5 network and the gig port did not work (was hoping the direct plugin would balance things out). Spend the extra money and get a better device.

It could be that the extender couldn’t get an optimum connection from the router. It should get at least three WiFi bars. Try moving it closer and if that won’t help, we’ll have our Escalation Engineers assist you further. Just send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com.
