      Hi, Rosebud7,

In order to fully optimize the extender, make sure to update the firmware and place it halfway between the router and the area that you want to cover. Just make sure that you get at least three WiFi bars from the router. If that won’t help, allow us to have our Escalation Engineers assist you instead. Just send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com along with your contact information and a link to this post as our reference.

depending on your usage, this little extender could actually be quite beneficial, if a bit on the pricey side. the good: stability - once i got it set up and connected to my main router, no issues with connection drops or spotty signal. range/throughput - i found both to be quite good in my testing. constant, fast, with great coverage. seamless roaming - a technology newly available at the consumer level, this feature is fantastic, allowing for the user to automatically transfer from router network to the extender without losing connection. UI - relatively well designed interface, with most items intuitively placed and easy to find. spot finder - a signal speed/strength measurement tool to help with the placement of the extender. very helpful for finding a good physical location to maximize both range and speed. the bad: troubleshooting seamless roaming - in my initial set up, it was not exactly intuitive to know when seamless routing was actually functioning. i certainly missed the fact that you cannot use it as such in the *wired* extender configuration. a quick call to customer support informed me that in order to use seamless roaming, it must be set up as a wireless only extender, which of course doesn't maximize your speed. it would be nice to have a little bit more information available regarding this particular option and set up, whether in the manual or the support page. it would also be nice to have the option to set up as a wired seamless roaming access point, to maximize throughput. price - a bit on the high side in my opinion. at a slightly lower price point, i would give it 5 stars. mixed: setup/troubleshooting - if you don't overthink it, setup is quite easy. you can choose to setup via WPS (which works fine for a generic setup, but not so great if you actually want to dive a little deeper) or connect it to your existing router via Ethernet cable and manually choose your settings. once i did the manual configuration, i had no further issues, but getting to this point, as well as troubleshooting seamless roaming, took a bit of time and patience. a big neon "seamless roaming is now engaged and functioning normally" sign would've helped out quite a bit in my case. the key here - everything in your extender settings must be exactly the same as your router settings for roaming to work. overall, certainly recommended for those large households who crunch a ton of data, and may have a blank spot in their wifi signal. double check that your main router can actually support seamless roaming if you plan to use it.

We have fios in our home and the router is set up in a closet in the basement where it was installed. The signal in the basement and on the first floor has always been good and it even extends outside a bit. But when it came to upstairs, the signal would drop out unless you were in specific areas. Streaming movies on a Chromecast? No chance. Looking stuff up online? Better to just turn off WiFi and use 4G. That was until I received the Linksys Extender. It took me about 5 minutes total to set up and we now have full strength WiFi signal in the entire home and even further outside. It's connected at 130mbps, so it's not slow and I have had no issues with having to reset it or any of the other troubles that seem to have plagued older range extenders. If you have one of the newer Linksys routers, it should support the seamless transition when you go from using WiFi on your router to the extender. Without it, you'll have to manually switch over to the extender. Not a deal breaker for me considering the benefits and it only takes a few seconds to switch over. Very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone having issues with a drop in WiFi signal in part of their home.

Planning to return item. Can’t find my receipt. Wasn’t getting strong WiFi up in my bedroom and thought this Linksys product would do the job. I used up my gigs instead because it switched to LTE all those times and Cell carrier charged me $15 for extra gig thrice and made a fortune out of me. Ridiculous

      Hi Dave,

The range extender works best if it is placed between where your main router and where you want to extend the Wi-Fi. We can have our Second Level Technicians contact you for further assistance to improve the coverage of the range extender.

Just send us your contact details at LinksysCares@linksys.com so that we can escalate your case. Don't forget to include the link to this post as a reference.

We hope to hear from you soon.

      Hi, Bernie,

If you haven't tried taking advantage of the Spot Finder Technology feature, we recommend doing so as this would help you to properly position the RE7000 Extender for an optimal Wi-Fi coverage. If you need a hand, feel free to email us the link to this post at LinksysCares@linksys.com along with your contact details. We have our Escalation Engineers always ready to serve you.

      Hi,

We appreciate your feedback. Make sure that the connection from the source is stable and that the extender is getting at least half of its bandwidth. A system reboot can help. Feel free to email LinksysCares@linksys.com should you need help. Do include your contact details and the link to your review for reference.
