      Hi,

The Linksys RE7000 will allow you to extend the connection of your router, and it is recommended to place it in between the area without wireless network and your router and ensure as well that it gets 50% connection from your router. However, we understand you and in case you have future concern with any of our products, you may communicate with us over email at LinksysCares@linksys.com so we can also have you assisted by our Escalation Engineers. We are a heavy-use technology family and recently moved into a home with multiple floors. The signal had a hard time reaching the upper floors when we had the router in the basement, and speeds weren't much better when we moved it to the main floor. We purchased this thinking it would solve the problem - or at least help some. It didn't, and we had spent too many days "giving it a chance" that it was too late to return it, so now it's pretty much just wall decoration.

Easy to set-up and fast range extender

I acquired this range extender to use in conjunction with a new router. I wanted to place the router more centrally for better coverage, but needed to keep a (wired-network-only) TV set-top box connected. This Linksys extender fit the bill perfectly, because I could extend the WiFi network and also use the Ethernet port to connect the set-top box. Set-up was very easy. I tested it out with the old router (an Asus) first, and the push-button WPS worked smoothly. I then set up the new router, reset the extender, and set it up on the new WiFi network. I used the manual Web-based configuration system that time, and it was easy enough that I think anyone familiar with setup of consumer networking products should have no trouble. The Web-based config will let you know if you have it placed in an ideal location based on signal strength, which is handy. However, it requires some trial-and-error - if you're not in a good spot, you have to unplug it, move it, wait for it to boot up again, and then reload the page to see if you guessed right. There's really not much else that could be done (short of including a battery so it can be moved around untethered), so I can't fault it too much. It did report that it had a stronger connection at a greater range with the new router, which also happened to be from Linksys. It's very likely that the new router just has that much better signal strength rather than being because my old router was from Asus. However, if you're interested in buying this extender with a new router like I was, you might want to consider sticking with Linkysys for both. I tested the WiFi speeds with the iperf utility (between a client on 802.11AC and a server connected directly to the router via Gigabit Ethernet). There was essentially no difference between having the client connected through the main router's WiFi versus having it on the extender's network. However, I do not have enough WiFi devices to really stress the WiFi network all at once, so your mileage may vary. Overall, I think it's a solid product, and since it supports up to AC1900 speeds I think it is pretty future-proofed (at least for this generation of WiFi). I'm happy with it.

First of all, I have setup the RE7000 Range Extender as a Wired Access Point on the opposite end of my home from a Linksys EA9500 via gigabit. The setup was extremely simple using a laptop and connecting to the RE7000, simply follow the instruction in the quick start guide. I did a manual installation rather than using the WPS and utilized the Spot Finder in placement, which was spot on in the optimum range. Ran some speed test by connecting to the RE7000 and alternately directly to the EA9500 router with my mobile phone in the room with the RE7000. After half a dozen test the RE7000 Extender came in at 26.37 download and 4.41 upload speeds, where the EA9500 router came in at 23.58 download and 4.37 upload speeds. Not a great variance, but we are looking at the power of the EA9500 router which is a beast, but there was obvious improvement on the other side of the home with the RE7000. Note: It should be clear that the speed test above would not be so close in speed if it was being testing from the room with the EA9500 router. The RE7000 simply does not have the power of a EA9500 Eight Antenna cutting edge router. Have switched several of my devices to link to the RE7000, such as mobile and tablet devices, load balance my Wi-Fi networking. One feature I certainly like is the ability to control access to the device, that is a big plus. Another benefit I have found is the ability to switch my laptop over from the router to the extender when my family is wearing the network out. One evening my laptop had noticeably slowed and when I checked my download speed was being hammered. A quick flick of the wrist to move to the RE7000 brought my network speed back to norm. The RE7000 has the future built in supporting Next Generation Multi User MIMO, Crossband and Beamforming technology, all of which will keep your network ahead of the bandwidth game. Certainly the most advanced Range Extender I have used and if you need the range you should be well pleased with the unit. I am part of a Best Buy review group and provided the RE7000 for an honest review on my part. It is a good and reliable unit and has not missed a beat in over a week of testing.

Updating the extender’s firmware might help to improve its overall performance as well as relocating it to an area where it gets an optimum connection. The product is easy to set up and the speed is pretty good. I was going to give it a 5 star rating, but then as I walk downstairs to the first floor to my sofa, the signal becomes so weak that the internet is unusable. My house isn't even large and i put the WiFi extender near the center of the second floor. Come on Linksys, this is not "Up to 10,000 sq.-ft. range"! Will definitely return and try another brand.

      Hi Alexz,

The extender’s performance largely depends on its location in your home and its wireless settings. Always check for firmware updates and use the Spot Finder feature of the RE7000. It automatically calculates the best place for the extender based on the signal behavior and capability of your router. Send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com so we can have one of our Escalation Engineers walk you through the necessary steps before you set aside the unit. Please include your contact details and the link to this review.

The Linksys RE7000-AC1900 range extender definitely works as advertised, and it's quite simple to set up and get running properly. Presuming that you have a router all set up and working properly, all you really have to do is plug the unit into a power outlet, then follow the prompts on your computer screen to set it up to work with your router. The Quick Start Guide that comes with the range extender gives you enough help to understand what to do and what you'll see on your computer screen. If you want to dig deeper into the range extender's setup and configuration, Linksys provides a lot more information online. I installed the range extender about halfway between my router and the room where I wanted better signal strength. And once I had it installed and operating properly, I could easily see the improved signal I was getting in the remote area -- instead of the two bars of signal my notebook showed previously, it showed full signal strength with all bars showing. Otherwise, I really wasn't able to test it to any "extra" degree -- I just wanted to get better signal to my notebook computer in a room across the house from my router, and this range extender simply did that exceptionally well, giving me a full-strength signal. Online speed tests showed that my notebook was getting the same broadband speed in my remote room as it could get when it was positioned near my router. About the only negative I could mention -- and it's a very minor one -- is that the extender is obviously designed to plug directly into a wall outlet. And I live in an older home, where I have utterly every wall outlet filled, so I had to plug it into an extension cord. And thus, the extender wound up essentially laying on the floor, but that sure didn't seem to keep it from working properly. In the end, I sure think that anyone who might be interested in a range extender such as this should be able to set it up and configure it easily -- Linksys provides instructions that are easy to follow, and it definitely makes a difference for the better once you have it installed.

We have a large home (5,280sq ft). While this device extends the internet, it also slows down the entire homes network. I am not impressed, since the network speeds have significantly declined. Even when connected to the main router and not the extender, the internet is extremely slow. Once I unplugged the extender, the internet speed went back to normal. I will be returning.
