    Poor Wifi extender/connection constantly drop

I had this for 7 months and the extender is no longer working. The wifi connection constantly dropped and had to do factory reset several times. I experienced another problem today and the extender failed to connect the wifi. Test the router from internet service provider and everything is working fine. If you need wifi extender, I would not recommend this product.

I used this wireless extender in my parents home where there are significant dead zones on the second floor. I paired it with the Linksys EA9500 router. Pros: -Easy setup with spot finder to assist with finding the optimum location -Admin web interface provides excellent setup access -Wifi handoff between main router and extender was smooth. -Coverage\range was better than expected Cons: -Slightly bulky -More expensive than most extenders but you get what you pay for in my opinion

    Great signal strength, lousy connectivity

Shows a strong signal strength but the connectivity is spotty at best and then (to make matters worse) when you try to log on to the admin panel it says "You're not connected to the range extender's network—yet. We can help." even though I AM connected to the network. Frustrating and disappointing!

Top of the line range extender with some caveats

I paired this device with the new Linksys EA9500 wifi router. Using WPS, having the two devices communicate with each other was dead simple. This range extender has a local web server that not only allows the typical configuration but also tells you how strong the signal strength is with your main wifi router. Very nice for proper placement. Too close or too far is not good. You have the option of setting this up to extend over ethernet if you want the best performance and have your home or office setup with multiple network drops. I did discover that not all devices will honor 802.11k/r which is seamless roaming. I'm an Apple device house and iOS devices like iPad and iPhone support this roaming but Macbook's do not. Very unfortunate. If you are connected to either the main wifi router or this RE7000 on a Mac, you will stay connected to that wifi device until you stop/start the wifi card on your laptop. Most people don't walk around too much with their laptop, but you should know this problem exists. Performance with a tri band wifi router and this dual band router is very good. No more slow wireless extender issues. Most range extenders have to either choose 5ghz for uplink or downlink and 2.4ghz for the other but can't do 5ghz up and down simultaneously. This is one of the reasons this device has a premium price. Give it a try in your house and see if it helps you. Really that is the only way to know how well it works.

Not a fan. Have to log into the extender vs it being seamless with the router. Didn't extend the range anymore than the router could already do.

      Hi, Jsim9291,

You can achieve the Seamless Roaming capability of the RE7000 once it's paired with a Linksys Max-Stream router. Also, your client devices must also support Seamless Roaming and have the feature enabled. As for its range, we can utilize the Spot Finder feature to ensure that it's in the right spot for optimal performance.

Please reach out to us at LinksysCares@linksys.com so that our Escalation Engineers can help you achieve the product's full potential. Indicate the link to this review and your contact information so they can contact you as soon as possible.

I was very disappointed in this product, it basically didn’t work for me. The setup went fine however, when my Verizon router connected to the repeater my internet connection was very very slow. It basically stopped when it connected to my network with the “EXT” extension. I had to unplug it to avoid my internet connection continuously stopping. I could not return it because of the very short return period.

LINKSYS MAX-STREAM Wi-Fi Range extender (AC1900) only had an output of 5MBS right next to router transmitting 1GB. Didn’t work in upstairs room any better than without it. So took it back. I don't want to spend the money for a mesh network, so guess I didn't really need it.

    Dead Simple

I have a Wi-Fi dead zone in my bedroom. I like to think of myself as tech savvy (although not a network guru) capable of setting up most any electronics. I thought I would have no problem setting up this Wi-Fi extender. I was right and then some. This is so simple to set up, my Mom could do it. There is nothing to put together, you pull the device out of the box and that's it. Plug the device into the wall and get started. The quick start guide is very helpful and easy to understand. There's one button and one light. If it's orange, it's not working, if it's green, you're good to go. To set it up, all you do is plug it in a wall outlet within range of your router. Hit the WPS button on your router (virtually every router made in the last 5+ years has one) and then hit the WPS button (the only button) on the device. Then unplug it and put it closer to your dead zone (but still in range of Wi-Fi signal) and it links back to the network once it's plugged in. That's literally it. The only thing I don't like, and it's not specific to this device, but to Wi-Fi extenders in general is that they create a separate network. So instead of having one Wi-Fi network, you'll have a second Wi-Fi network with a "_EXT" at the end. You can change the name in the browser (NOTE: I did not use the browser to change the settings, didn't feel the need to do so) but I wouldn't. The Wi-Fi passwords are the same, but for an OCD type like myself, I don't like having to switch between Wi-Fi networks. But to be honest, I have yet to notice any delay or lag when my devices switch between the networks. Bottom line, if you have a dead zone, you can't go wrong with this extender. I can't say I have extensive experience in using extenders and I can't compare it to others, but I can virtually guarantee this one works. And it's so simple to set up, perfect for that person who might be intimidated by technology or network devices.

    Nice Wireless Network Extender

This is the nicest wireless network extender I have worked with so far. Extremely easy to setup and configure. I used the WPS option to connect it to my current Linksys wireless router in just a few minutes. My wireless router is upstairs so I was experimenting with a number of locations downstairs to try and find the optimal location for the device. I was a little disappointed that my best location was almost directly below my wireless router on the first floor. I tried almost every outlet possible on the first floor and let the device stay connected for a while before checking the Spot Finder utility in the UI. This was the only location the Spot Finder determined was “just right” and gave me the best wireless performance results. All in all, I was pretty happy with the overall results in performance.

      Hi, DWayn,

There are several factors that could cause a limited range such as physical obstructions, wireless interference, or a poor placement. Try moving the extender around to get an optimum placement and make sure that it is running on the latest firmware. If nothing helps, we’ll have our Escalation Engineers lend you a hand.
