Effective way to increase coverage/speed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In my experience, wireless extenders or repeaters have generally been one of the last options for trying to improve Wi-Fi coverage. Whether it is a power-line based extender or a wireless extender, there are always compromises. The Linksys RE7000 is a dual band wireless extender that can operate as a wired extender (using the Gigabit Ethernet port) or more commonly as a wireless extender. Because it is dual band, it can extend 2.4 Ghz, 5 Ghz, or both. Setup is all done via web browser and very straightforward, simply requiring you to input the password(s) for the wireless networks it sees that you want to extend. You have the flexibility to keep everything the same for seamless roaming between the main router/access point and the extender, or you can use discrete settings if you want more control. In practice, you need to locate the extender at a point where the current existing signal is still decent, so that it can then repeat it out towards the weak coverage area. There is a built-in Spot Finder feature that helps with doing so. When done properly, I definitely saw an increase in Wi-Fi coverage and speed. A room with existing coverage but lower speeds saw noticeably higher speeds. Further out where there was no existing coverage, there was now coverage. The extender's cross band feature leverages both bands (if you have a dual band wireless network) to balance out communication between the router and extender, and the extender to device, which definitely helps with speeds. The only improvement I would like to see would be the ability to set the specific Wi-Fi channels used by the extender, as it seems to use the same channels as the source network. I did not test it as a wired extender, but would expect it to work just as well if you are able to connect it via Ethernet.

Had promise, but doesn't execute
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seamless roaming is a great idea, but Apple devices want to "hang on" to this access point even when a better source is within a foot. Ended up having to give this access point a new SSID. But now, Apple devices only want to connect to the new SSID very slowly and disconnect often. Can't recommend this unit.

Great Range Extender
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are a bunch of wifi enabled devices in my house. They range from cell phones all the way down to tablets. Being that my house has a detached garage, and me wanting to put in a smart TV in the garage, a wifi range extender seemed like a really good idea. My wifi router is located in my living room, which is somewhat far away from my garage. Every time I went into my garage, I would notice that the wifi signal was relatively weak. I gave Linksys MaxStream RE7000-AC1900 Range Extender a try and loved it! First off, this thing was SO easy to set up! It only takes a push of a button, your routers password, and you are ready to enjoy your wifi where those dead spots use to be. A tool that I found extremely helpful when setting this up was Linksys online signal locator. It helped me find just the right spot to plug the range extender for maximum performance. You don't want to have it plugged in too far away, but still not too close to your router. This was an extremely helpful tool. Also, there is one ethernet port on this device for hardwire connections. After I set this all up, I went out to my garage to test the signal, and even as far back to the end of my backyard. I can tell you that these dead spots have now been eliminated. My phone no longer has to buffer when listening to music, and the connection speed is amazing. Another new amazing technology that this range extender features is MU-MIMO technology! This thing is so amazing! If you are in the market for a range extender, this is definitely the way to go. It is so easy to set up, and it is quipped with the latest in wireless technology. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is having connectivity issues in their home, especially if you have multiple wifi enabled devices in your home (MU-MIMO is a plus here).

Truly Plug-n-play network enhancement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Linksys MaxStream RE7000-AC1900 Wall Plug In Range Extender with MU-MIMO It’s hard to find truly plug-n-play networking accessories that are genuine improvements to my network. This Range extender is such a product: very straightforward to setup and use. And I chose the somewhat more complicated (not really) browser-based method of setup. (The easier approach is the WPS — push a button — method.) The device can be set-up as either a WIRELESS or WIRED extender. The former may reduce the wireless signal while the latter provides maximum signal but requires either a lengthy cable from your primary router or a set of PowerLine adapters. I use the latter usually, but I was so impressed with the wireless effectiveness that I saved some time and effort and simply went wireless. A quick speed test showed that I’m now getting 85-90% of my Internet Access on my back patio where I once found myself twisting and turning to get the better signal. That is no longer necessary. Complaints: Linksys needs more work on instructions. Teasing references to “Spot Finder Technology” will have you searching for apps for your phone, software from Linksys, or some link to more information. Spot Finder is really a feature already integral to the device and it magically appears after you’ve done the setup. Very confusing, I suppose it's reassuring to see that I'm configured correctly but it's a late arrival to the party. Actually using the Extender Setup instructions left me wanting a bit more guidance. Real screen-shots would be real nice. This might just be me — I only play with networks once or twice a year and prefer a bit of hand-holding. This is the type of device I recommend to friends and family who are not technically proficient. It's hard for them to get into trouble that I can't get them out of.

Misleading information
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, since you cannot go into the store to look at the product you are purchasing, you must rely on the internet staff to correctly describe an item. Online this item says 10000 Sq Ft of coverage. The box says 2500 Sq Ft. of coverage... doesnt even cover 2500 Sq. Ft.

Posted .Hi, William,
The wireless coverage of the range extender usually depends on the network environment. To optimize its performance, you may try relocating it and use the Spot Finder feature on the setup page to check if the device is on the recommended position. The Linksys range extender might be too far from the router to stay connected. Try to use the spot finder feature of the extender to find the optimal location to place the device and, make sure to update its firmware.

Truly works as advertised...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing, the configuration is extremely easy via WPS. Simply plug the unit into a outlet where you have a known good signal. The feature on this that helps you locate the best place to put the repeater. When placing the unit as recommended, I was able to obtain the same speed as I had with the router. I was able to extend from my 2nd floor office to the Living Room with ease. Highly recommended if you have a large or two story home!

Great for extended range outside
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My router was unable to provide a strong signal for me to acquire from my backyard patio. I installed this and it did what it's supposed to do. It was a little difficult in the beginning to connect to the router and find the perfect position where I needed it. But with some patience and experimenting I found the spot to get me the range I needed. The initial set up was easy but finding the spot for you may take some time. Once configured, all you have to do is plug it in to an electrical outlet and wait for the orange blinking light to turn green. When connected to your router, it uses the same sign on for your wifi and makes it a seamless connect for your devices without any additional clicks or password inputs. Makes life easy.
