What can I say?!?! This was a very easy product to setup and the results were great. I had issues with WiFi coverage on my lower level so I installed this little guy to try and solve that. The directions were easy to follow and the process wasn't difficult at all. All in all, I think it took 5 minutes to complete the setup and the WiFi seeking items on my lower level were good to go. I would recommend this option to anyone having dead zone issues.

      Hi Poshbear,

Setting up the RE7000 Extender is easy as long as it is positioned within the range of your Wi-Fi router and the basic system requirements are met. We regret to hear that the item is no longer with you as we could have endorsed your case to one of our Escalation Engineers for further isolation. Should you have other Linksys device that needs assistance, we can be tapped anytime at LinksysCares@linksys.com. We'd be more than happy to serve you.

Worked very well at my home. I'm having weak connection in my backyard and that had me to move my router to spot which is close enough but this was failure. I got this little smart nice device and fixed this issue. I liked its simple smart set-up while setting it up it helps you find your best spot to amplify and extend range of internet coverage . I'm so hapoy with it since I don't need to worry about roaming around my home.

    A Pleasant Surprise

I have often tried to improve the wireless signal in my house. But I have never gotten the success I had hoped for. These new MIMO routers have actually given me hope that I can add a device that makes a real difference. The Linksys MaxStream Range RE7000-AC1900 Wall Plug Extender with MU-MIMO has been a pleasant surprise. The Extender has a few options on how you put it into service. One is as a wireless extender or a wired extender. The extender allows you to use your cell phone and find the best location on your wireless network where you can just plug it into a wall socket and add it to your network. The other option is if you have a wired network connection available you can plug it into both the wired connection and a wall outlet and add it to your network. It actually worked very well. Adding it to your current network is all done on a webpage and is very easy. The only strange thing I can report is when I look at the bars on my cell phone it might be one bar even if I am within sight of the extender. However everytime I run a test of my connection and speeds they are maxed out for what my internet connection will support. I don’t know if this is unique to MIMO devices or not. My cell phone has a AC wireless chip. But in the end I don’t care if I have one bar as long as I am getting the speeds I expect. I am going to keep this one and just forget about it. That is how is should be.

This range extender does exactly what its supposed to do, and it does it very well! First of all..the setup. You can literally take this out of the box and be up and running with it in about 5 minutes. The setup couldn't be easier! As far as the functionality goes...We have a single level home with a finished basement. We keep our router in the basement. Upstairs in the family room area we get roughly half of our wifi strength, on a good day. We usually get 60-65Mbps right by the router, maybe 15-25 upstairs. Using the page on your computer where you set it up...there is a very handy place where it tells you the optimum distance away from your router to put this thing. If its to far away, it will tell you, if its too close, it will tell you, and it will also tell you when you have it in just the right spot! We found the optimal spot to put it upstairs, and now anywhere we go on the upper level, we are getting wifi speeds that are just as fast as if we were right in front of the router downstairs. We even get very close to those speeds outside now on our deck where we were lucky to get 5Mbps before installing this device. I couldn't be happier with it, and couldn't recommend it enough. This is the perfect way to blanket your whole home with the fast wifi speeds that you are paying for!

Maintains Speed but Range is just Okay

I received this extender and set it up in the basement to extend the signal from my upstairs router. This extender replaced one that is about 2 years old. Let me stress that my bandwidth is well below what this extender is rated to handle, only averaging about 15mbps download speeds. Set up is a breeze, and using your mobile phone to set up is super simple. I selected the manual setup vs the WPS setup and setup was still very easy and direct. I also like the slim look of the extender. Upon connecting to my wifi signal, I immediately noticed how the download speed is maintained better than my previous extender. There was barely any speed loss connected to the extender instead of my router where with my old extender, I noticed a difference. This was, however, sitting right next to the new extender. Moving away from the new extender I noticed that the range is no where near as good as the old one. I drop one bar on my phone's wifi indicator just moving to the next room over (my office) using this extender, compared to no bars lost when connected to my old extender. Even download speeds were slightly lower here. From here I wanted to test the actual range of the extender so I walked upstairs and outside and immediately lost the signal all together as soon as I stepped out of the garage. So I was one floor up and maybe only 80 feet horizontally from the extender. My old extender would still have a signal all the way out to the end of my driveway. an additional 60 feet easily. I was very disappointed in the range of this extender and have gone back to using my old one since it performs better extending the signal to my office. Again, however, this extender is supposedly made for higher speeds, which I don't have and can't comment to. I don't know that I can recommend this extender when I know there are others out there that have a much better range. It's very easy to set up and looks good, but unless you're just extending your signal to a single room, I wouldn't recommend this.

      Hi, TheStump,

We appreciate the time you spent in writing this review for the Linksys RE7000. We understand that you're not satisfied with the range of the unit, and we'd like to take this chance to improve your experience. Was the range extender placed in the same location as your old one? Is it inside or outside a room? There's a new firmware released for your range extender. We'd recommend that you proceed with the firmware upgrade to improve its performance. You can download it from this link: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=198576

Great fix for low coverage area

In my house, we have one bedroom that does not seem to get a good signal from our router. Moving the router was not an option, so I had to find a work around. I didn't want to buy a new router because the one I have is great and I just had the one dead/low coverage area. So I plugged this range extender in half way between the two locations. You simply press the WPS button on the router and the same button on the side of the range extender. It takes a matter of seconds for the two to pair, then you are done. The extender will show up with a signal that has the same name as your router, plus "_ext." You will see a solid green light when you have it connected correctly. When you connect to the range extender, you use the exact same password as your router. Its really that simple! Saved me money, as it is a more economical option compared to buying a new router, and it gave a strong signal to the dead spot in the house. For fun, I tried connecting this thing the same way to my portable hotspot, and it worked perfectly just like the router. So it has various options for application. I highly recommend this to anyone, I think it would be ideal for a multi story house where you have just one router. Its well made and takes up limited space.

First, this range extender was extremely easy to set up. It only took about 5 minutes so even the not so tech savy people could set it up with no problem. I have 6 bedroom home and my room is a complete dead spot despite the modem being on the same floor and only 2 doors down. So, I put this device in my room and my signal is perrrfect.

This unit was easy to install and get set up. The app used to locate the optimal location to place the device was intuitive and produced good results. The outcome is that WiFi coverage in the basement (and in the adjacent building) is now very good and the throughput is much improved. This unit is as good as I hoped it would be...
