I would not sync, auto-configure at first, but the problem actually was my wireless router. After power cycling that device, the repeater setup just fine for both WiFi bands.

So I can't speak for range or extender capabilities. As a bridge, its perfect for my needs and not only do I get my max 100Mbit internet, I get about 350Mbit (sometimes more or less depending on file size) via my local wifi network. I should add this is on 5G, distance will matter and the main router is a netgear AD7200 (a beast) so likely helps but this can sorta keep up.

The Linksys RE7000 is suggested to be placed in between the router and the area you wished to extend the network of your router. Thus, we must observe physical obstructions and wireless interference from the other devices as it may cause connection concerns. Power cycling the unit and making sure it is running on its latest firmware version may help us isolate the concern.
