Although it was not as simple and straightforward as I had hoped, it wasn't too hard to get set up. The best part is that I can move around within the house with no dead Wi-Fi zones and my devices do not miss a bear when switching which connection gives them the strongest signal. Also, my Roku in the furthest reach of the house now streams much better.

I tried very hard to get it to connect to my router (also Linksys) but unless it was in the same room it wouldn't pick up. Normally I would default to blaming the end user but in this instance it made no sense to me that it would connect in the same room but stepping out of the room an extra 3 feet I couldn't get it. My old extender did so I ended up getting a newer version of my Netgear Extender.

As long as the range extender is within the router's wireless coverage or if it detects at least 50% signal, then its connection router should be stable. In your case, there could be factors that affected the extender's performance.
