An Early Look at the Linksys RE9000 Access Point.

Recently purchased a pair of Linksys RE9000's for use at the Church I attend. These units were replacing much older Linksys (Cisco vintage) 2.4GHz gear.
Set-up was fairly straight-forward. Just followed the step-by-step instructions to run the devices as wired access points. At the end of the process, a hard copy summary was made available to be printed out for documentation.
Performance-wise, for the short time they have been in service, they seem to work well with no drops being reported by users. Coverage is decent (considering the building has cinderblock walls and concrete ceilings & floors).
If I could make a suggestion for improvement, it would be to make these devices compatible with the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi system...much the way Linksys routers can be placed into Bridge Mode...but still allow for some remote administrative activity.
Other than that, no problems to report so far.

Added this ea9000 to my ea9500 linksys router. Not sure this improved my wifi coverage much.
While it looks like a beast of a extender, Im still on the fence for reccomending it to anyone. It looks like itll do the job, but Id reccomend daisy chaining 2 routers of the same brand and model imstead.
I installed this in my garage, as the locater gave it the best central location for wifi coverage....

Easy installation and setup. Easily integrated with the existing router. The living room now has the same great signal as the office. The TV no longer loses the internet connection. Multiple laptops can now surf simultaneously at high speed. A worthwhile upgrade to my wireless.

I have to say I’m a little underwhelmed. I have a tethering network and thought the upgrade to a stronger router with this Max Stream extender would make my house more gadget friendly but it is the opposite.
The two network idea was cool for 2GHZ and 5GHZ device prioritization but ultimately it has caused confusion among my already connected devices. A good example is my thermostats cannot pick up the new Wi-Fi networks where as the old one was a simple set up.
Aesthetically it’s still a little clunky and all the antennas should expand the square footage and reach of my Internet but somewhere there’s a crossfire and some of my devices just aren’t functioning correctly. My cellphone is a good example where trying to load a website took almost a minute where as before it loaded instantly.
The application that Linksys has for it’s devices is neat but again I can’t manage the extenders, only the actual router so it makes it hard to really create a personalized experience. I did use the website and app for setups but neither made a large difference.
Speed test on both networks varied quite a bit. Not good.

So Easy to Set Up!

This thing is a super piece of cake to set up. All you need to do is hit the wps button on your main router, then the wps button on this one, when the light turns green, it's ready to go!
A little back story, I had my old router set up as a repeater bridge for an extender with DD-WRT, which was pretty good, but annoying to get set up. That router finally burned up, but it was irritating because I had 4 different SSID's and had to manually switch between them in order to use the best wifi that I could according to my position in the house. With this new extender, it's a mesh extender, and it maintains the same SSID's you already have, so there is no having to switch, it happens automagically!. Sometimes there is a minor delay in switching, but I'm very perceptive to that stuff. Overall it's really good and the coverage is excellent. It blows away the old router coverage upstairs and improves the overall network availability both upstairs and downstairs in my 2075 sq. ft. house.

I've gone through many different kind of Wi-Fi Range Extenders, but this one takes the cake. It's easy to setup and reliable. The range is amazing. I don't know how it's different from others, but all I can say that I've gotten double my speed!!

I lived in a 3 part house with me working remotely within my basement. After setting up this booster in the Living room upstairs, I was able to utilize impeccable speeds and sturdy connection. Even my mother who worked a remote call center had no complaints with the stability of her setup after I installer this booster.

Better than Netgear!

I had a Nighthawk Netgear extender that asked for a firmware update and when I did it as instructed, it stopped working to the point that I exchanged the modem with my internet provider, and returned 2 newer Nighthawk products that did not fix the extender issues. The instructions and lack of support from Netgear drove me nuts. In frustration I purchased this Linksys unit and everything started working again. Download speeds increased to as high as 271 Mbps at the farthest area of my 4,100 sq feet home. I am pleased with this unit.
