Poor connectivity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This was purchased because Lively told us the Jitterbug II we had wasn’t working properly and needed to be replaced. The phone was dropping calls and not updating correctly. The new Jitterbug III was no different. Apparently, we waited too long to return it and now we are buying an Android phone and dumping Lively altogether.

Poorly constructed/designed.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.As a former employee of Best buy Health, formerly known as GreatCall, I cannot reiterate enough how much I would recommend against getting this for those it is intended for. The value SEEMS good, but 100 MB data is a literal joke. one, maybe two facebook updates and the data is GONE. after that, they charge overages. 10 cents PER MEGABYTE OF DATA. And as a former employee, I can attest to how quickly that racks up. It runs a dated version of android OS with the Jitterbug OS running on top, leading to a fairly laggy experience and quite a bit of system crashes, (again speaking from experience). You are better off using this phone in "advanced android mode" and using it as a budget android device, but at that point, you're better off with a Samsung A20 series device... a bit more expensive, sure, but is SIGNIFICANTLY higher quality than this Alcatel paperweight. Powered by Verizon wholesale coverage, which is shoddy at best... You would be much better covered on Cricket or MetroPCS with either a Samsung A20 series or iPhone SE (2nd Gen), which, with accessibility features enabled, absolutely SMOKE this phone in terms of quality, performance, and features.

Good phone

We just had problems with the service from Best Buy. No one wanted to help. And when they did, they didn’t activate it correctly. It’s working now though, after customer service with Lively figured out what was wrong.

The Best Buy associate who sold us the phone and set it up for us was terrific.---unfortunately, the phone (especially for seniors) is no better than a flip phone. The problems started with no voice mail function. It was resolved with another trip to BBuy, but this is not something a senior should have to deal with. It is not easy to change settings. It takes 3 steps to make a call or send a message. You cannot change certain operations like the number of rings (10 rings before VM pick-up), or certain alert sounds without muting the phone completely. We got a great price from BBuy---but the costs are back loaded because there is very little data in the least expensive package, and unlike other calling plans, there seem to be taxes and other fees (excluding the one time setup charge that was expected) not included in the stated monthly price. A full data package would bring that cost up to what I pay Verizon. But the biggest issue was that the phone burnt through 400MB of data in less than 4 days---without leaving the house and wifi range of our router! I spent 1 hour on the phone with a very nice agent who finally told me that I have to turn off 'data usage ' while in the house (evidently, it uses data even when there is a connected router available). There was also data attributed to the use of Google Play which I did not access at all, which tech support couldn't figure out, but apologized and said I would be reimbursed for the usage---we'll see when the next bill comes due. And then there was the time that a white screen would not let me access the phone function at all---it came back while I was waiting for Lively tech support. All of these problems within 3 weeks (too late to return the thing). My 87 yr old husband still prefers his flip phone---it fits into his pocket better---he just needs it for emergencies and doesn't text (which is impossible on a flipper).

easy to use after a challenging set up.

It takes several calls to the lively help line. They are fairly helpful. There is definitely a learning curve for all the features. The keyboard is very small.

Need more in-person instruction

I'm not very tech-savvy when it comes to phones, and I had some difficulty getting the phone activated, which I had to do online because there were no phone reps available at Best Buy when I purchased the phone. After that, I didn't know the phone number of the phone, but I called Lively's support line and was given the number. I still have more questions, but I hope they will be answered soon (by someone!).
