Full RF and IR control, best feeling remote ever

TL/DR: Gave me fully integrated RF and IR control of Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Xfinity X1, Windows Media Center, AV receiver, HDTV, standalone HDMI switcher, and Wink/IFTTT controlled lighting, with one of the nicest feeling remotes I've ever held in hand, plus seamless Google Assistant voice control. I sure hope Companion has won both technical and design awards, because it addressed everything I needed to solve in my family room, and then some. Wish I'd discovered this years ago. If you're using multiple remotes to watch TV, or still needing to point remotes at their devices, you should move up to this, if only to gain the convenience of RF-based control (no more arm lifting!). First off, Companion is one of the nicest feeling remotes I've held in hand, ideal size, weight, and matte feel, well balanced and contoured. Much better than bulkier universal remotes, incl. larger Harmony models. Another physical advantage is that it doesn't use a charging cradle (instead, lithium battery), so can always stay right by your favorite seat. BUT: A tradeoff is no backlighting, so this isn't an ideal remote for dark home theater usage. I was pleasantly surprised the Harmony hub directly supports all of my RF and IR controlled devices, including Amazon Fire TV and Roku streaming sticks (RF), Xfinity X1 set top box (IR), and even a $10 IR controlled HDMI switcher, which was surprisingly listed by exact make and model # in the Harmony database. Lastly, even though Harmony doesn't directly interface to my Wink smart hub service, Companion's home control buttons can trigger my Wink lighting routines via IFTTT using SmartThings virtual buttons (no separate SmartThings hub is needed). The Harmony mobile app was all I needed to set up all of above, with the basics working in under an hour. I'm a past user of the legacy Harmony desktop app, and this mobile app is a welcome improvement, though takes some time to figure out its menus. Even though every media control button is customizable for short and long presses, I've only made one minor adjustment to Harmony's defaults, i.e. swapping skip fwd/back to short press, and FF/RW long press. Otherwise, all button mappings have been logical and usable. "Hey Google, turn on Roku" (or Fire TV, or Media Center) through my phone or smart display is handy for having everything powered on and ready to watch by the time I reach the sofa. :) Well done, Logitech!

You can control all of your components include smart lights and plugs with this remote control! The software is very smart mostly compatible with %99.99 of devices. You don’t need to worry about your components which is placed inside the cabinet! The smart hub will help to transfer all commands to the devices smoothly! Be patient at the first time when you’re programming the remote.

I bought this remote to complement my 75 inch tv and my Klipsch stereo system, however, I can only utilize 50% of the remote. Two, I cannot recommend spending $100 plus for this remote because I still have to use my 3 other remotes in addition to this Logitech Finally, it is not user friendly with the Amazon Fire stick.

This remote is pure trash. It’s not intuitive to use. It has driven me to tears and I have tried like heck to have this thing returned but my husband won’t listen, and the Geek guys keep telling me it’s fine. Do not waste your money on this piece of trash. I wish we had never bought it. The app is a joke and I’m a very technical minded person! It has been the absolute worst thing programmed ever! I wish I had done my own homework rather than listen to some high school kid tell us this was the “best” for our TV & surround sound system.

    Third times the charm

This is the third time I purchase a Harmony remote in the last year. I returned the previous two purchases because I was frustrated. The Harmony product line is initially confusing to setup. How the process works for customizing the remote is not intuitive. I read a review that had a good explanation of the top tier model on Anandtech. It helped me understand this product, so I decided to give this thing another try. Unfortunately it doesn't have much competition, but ultimately I think Logitech did a good job. It takes a little while to setup with the custom macros I need. I have a small theater in my house with a projector, surround sound, and many different input devices. I also have a Philips Hue lighting system in the room. My setup is complicated, which is why I suspect I was so frustrated the first two times with this product line. Once it is all configured though, it works flawlessly. My wife was considering going back to school to learn how to use our theater, but actually she was able to control our gear with this remote after one explanation. The product is far too dependent on a smart phone. And it's not the most stable app. You can do things on a computer, but then it expects you to connect the hub directly to your PC to synchronize, or start the phone app and synchronize changes from your account to the hub even though you used a PC to make the changes. Honestly this makes little sense given the hub connects to the same wifi network as my PC and phone. I would recommend this device to anybody, but some may need help with custom setup (I'm talking about the people who need to do more than add devices and create activities). I was pretty harsh in my product rating even though I am insanely happy with this remote, but such a great product really needs better customization features. Like a central pool of macros that I can assign to any activity that uses all of the devices in the macro. Also, its price is reasonable, but no back light in a MSRP $150 remote is unforgivable. Pros +Reduces need for so many remotes +Easy to use; it actually works! And it's fast +Controls practically everything; the supported products are truly endless (even controls my Emotiva DAC) +Price (it's reasonable) +Uses a standard replaceable button-style battery +Feels really nice in hand; even better than top tier model +Nice textured finish on remote; won't slip out of your hands; No glossy finishes that attracts finger prints and scratches Cons -No back light in a $150 remote [-1 star] (this is where competition would help...) -Setup and customization changes -No unified customization; requires creating the same macro once per activity [-1 star] -High dependency on smart phone or tablet -All Off button is way too close to activity buttons, which are too close to lighting buttons -Setup power cycles every component; refuses to complete setup without power cycle (Epson says not to power cycle my projector; Logitech should know better; at least it only happens once) -No network jack on hub to bypass wifi Wishlist ~I would love to be able to use this thing as a pointing device for my HTPC ~Microphone for converting voice to text ~A small base to highlight this product in my theater would be nice

Initial set-up was a little complicated, and the instructions could have been better. Once finally set up it worked pretty well. We bought this for our 88 year old father to try to simplify things for him. He had 4 remotes and would get confused using them. This helped, but a couple times it lost synchronization and he didn't know what to do. Luckily we set up the app on my phone and I could re-synch it remotely.

I’ve had a harmony remote for over 10 years that has worked great. With the advent of voice control remotes, and the fire stick, that could not be controlled by a normal universal remote, I Purchased this, and have not been disappointed. It’s a piece of cake to program, Just follow the prompts starting by entering your equipment and the inputs for your devices. The biggest problem is determining how to enable Alexa to work with the device. First you have to remember to download the skill for your Echo, Then learn the voice prompts to enable it to control all your devices. I’m still learning, but I have no problems and getting it to work either with the buttons or voice prompts. My only issue, Is no backlight. However if you want that feature, or if you have more than eight devices or six activities, then you need to spring for the extra $150 to get the eliteVersion. This is a great device, easy to use and well worth the hundred dollars when it’s on sale.

Really enjoying this little device as I’m utilizing through my Alexa smart speakers. I was unsure at first on how easy the set up would be after reading other reviews however it was quite simple and mater of fact for me and didn’t take very long before it was fully operational. I’m having one issue with the infared signals to my samsung audio system (it doesn’t trigger 100% of the time). Other than that I love it and will buy one for my mother.

I bought this remote to use with a Vizio tv and an Nvidia Shield box. Wife didn't like the Nvidia remote. This remote works well, but you have to program every single button one at a time to make it work. Plus, you need your phone or tablet (I use an Ipad), so you can download the Harmony app. You do all the remote programming through the app. I spent numerous evenings over a couple weeks getting the basics figured out. It will control everything you have that runs by remote, but its a process! Don't try to program all your equipment at once. I had to start over and program one piece of equipment at a time. If your looking for instant gratification, look at something else. And don't try to do it when the wife wants to watch her favorite show! It works well once you figure it out, but it will test your patience.

Works great, but beware Samsung's Anynet+

I like the idea of the hub and remote and the system is now working flawlessly but getting to that point took about a month. It turns out Samsung's Anynet+ is basically incompatible with this remote, but without Anynet+ I am not able to use the HDMI cable from TV to receiver for the ARC (audio return channel), which was something I wanted to do to cut down on cable clutter. It was a long process of elimination to find out Anynet+ was what was causing the problems. By then I had deleted everything and started over at least four times. Once I figured out that Anynet+ was the problem, the solution was to turn off Anynet+ and run the TV audio to receiver via optical cable. At that point, everything started working perfectly. The Harmony Home Companion now works perfectly. Even using voice through an Amazon Echo works most of the time, but that's an Amazon issue, not Harmony. My one ongoing gripe is that the remote is not back-lit. That frustrates me every time I need to use it as I normally only watch stuff in the evening.

I bought this to replace a Harmony 550 that I could no longer program, and because of the functionality I could get through Google Home + IFTTT. The programming is relatively simple, but needs knowledge and interest in the technology being controlled. This isn't just plug and play situation, it doesn't automatically detect your setup but does guide you step by step on everything you'll need to do and find. I ran into a couple things that didn't work exactly right due to quirks of my setup. I was able to figure it out, but I assume most will run into something that needs knowledge-based tweaks. After initial setup, and the creation of Actions (turning on multiple devices and switching them to the correct input), you can get into optional customizations for buttons. Since the remote doesn't have a screen, you are limited in the controls you can add to just the physical buttons and long pressing them. There were things I could do before with my 550 that can only be done with the app now. Speaking of which, for real power users, you have to get used to the app. You can't switch to device control mode on the remote, so if you want to do something that isn't part of the current action you have to use the app. The app is good, I haven't really had any problems using it. I could definitely see someone having a cheap tablet dedicated to just remote duties. The actual physical element of the Hub was easy to setup as well. Just plug stuff in and place somewhere that will have a view of every component. I put it on shelving off to the back corner of my living room and it works as well if not better than ever other remote I've had. Since the Hub and IR repeater stay stationary, and the remote simply sends signals to the Hub, you don't need to be aiming the remote at anything, or even be in the same room, to use it. Side benefits: I now have a normal remote control for watching TV and movies on my XBox One, and using Google Home I can start actions just with my voice. Hopefully more fine grained controls will come shortly. If you've already invested in a multi part entertainment system, after the initial setup this can greatly simplify your daily usage. It makes the most complex setups controllable by the tech averse, so it's also great for a family setup. If you want even more customization and control on the remote itself, the jump up to the remote with the full color LCD is expensive but might be worth it.

I have a mixed configuration of devices in my home entertainment system: LG TV, Bose sound, Apple TV, Samsung Blu-ray and Samsung Cable Box (Spectrum). I had managed to get down to just the Bose remote, however, there were still a number of steps to change between viewing modes. This was clear to me but not others in the household. Setting up the Logitech took a bit of patience and planning. Needed to collect model number for each of the devices and take an inventory of inputs to the TV and Bose. The Logitech setup App is reasonable and once all of the devices have been entered, the App suggests some possible routines such as "Watch TV" or "Watch DVD". The next trick is to make sure that you set both the base station and the auxiliary IR blaster in the correct position. I had all my components in a cabinet and place the base station in this cabinet and had little problem controlling these devices. The trick was positioning the auxiliary IR blaster in a position that the TV responded as expected. Took a bit of trial and error but now working. Overall, well worth the effort to setup. Now have single button on/off and control of my TV, Apple TV, Blu-ray, and cable box.

Love the new harmony remotes. These do 98% of what the Pro? Brands do for ALOT less. Like most home automation, you need to take your time and set the hub up correctly. I’ve installed the other brands I.e SV, ProC, RT, And I keep recommending these to my customers. Why? Unless your a brand snob, you absolutely can control an environment with these. Plus, the APP comes with the system! No more adding licensing and creating different orientations to make it work on a smart device. Or hunting for that elusive IR command! I just wish Logitech would make the Companion Remote backlit. I’d happily PAY more for that. Is it perfect? No way, But it is definitely the best value on the market Out...

I really appreciate this remote, and the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because after I configure it, some studying is necessary to remember how to use/access the products that are synced with it. This remote allows me to set modes of entertainment that utilize devices that the remote will control seamlessly. However, I don't necessarily have the option to control one device at a time. For example, the Watch TV mode will utilize the TV, and Roku, but if I'm watching a movie on the TV and want to turn on the entertainment system, have to select a different mode, or I have to use the app on my phone to turn on the device, or I have to set the device as one of the colored buttons. Granted, the fact that I already know the resolutions to the problem I just stated should alleviate the issue, but the resolutions create different problems upon implementation. This remote could be much simpler to use if we primarily used the entertainment system, or a sound bar, but that's another resolution that creates different problems. Ultimately, I would definitely recommend this remote, and the hub. I think the hub and remote combo is the epitome of "Teamwork makes the dreamwork", and just like my beloved Dallas Cowboys, not all teams are pristine perfection.

I have setup like many which includes a cable box, TV, sound system, optical switch, and two gaming consoles. This has made my life so much easier. Did I have a first world problem? Well sure, I hated juggling all the remotes when it came time to watch TV or play a game or listen to music. This has solved that problem. It took me a while to get setup. This is not some magic in a box. You have to take time to setup the devices and build your activities. One of the harder devices to setup was the optical switch which I bought years ago. This helps me switch devices to my sound system. It has no labels or markings on it. I started setting up everything else hoping to go back to that. Not a good move. Get all your devices loaded first before setting up your activities. I eventually took a picture of my the optical switch through BING and it located the exact model for me! Once I had that I started all over from scratch setting things up. I used my iPad to do all this. There are lots of negative reviews on the Apple website about the app. If you have patience and are willing to put some time in it works fine. Once I got all the devices loaded, including connecting my Hue light system, I started setting up my activities. One for watching TV, one for one gaming console, one for the other gaming console, one for music while I am working, etc etc. While this does work with Alexa for voice control I find it much easier using IFTTT and my Cortana Invoke (yes I still use and love my Cortana Invokes.) I have two. Our main system is in the basement. From upstairs I can say "Cortana, TV Time." and by the time I get to the basement my TV is on, sound is working and my TV watching Hue lights are on without me having to touch anything. I can say "Cortana, Game time" TV comes on, XBOX comes on, optical switch changes to proper channel for sound, proper HDMI connection is made. All this while I am getting something to drink to take with me. :-) I can say "Cortana, Work Time" and my sound system comes on and it changes the cable channel to the Smooth Jazz station. I have several others but those are my main ones. At the end of each session when I am done with one press of the button on the remote everything goes off. Everything. (I have not found a way to verbally make it all go off, but I think I can manage picking up the remote for one button push. :-D ) Is it 100% accurate all the time? No. Occasionally something misfires, but is is very very rare. I definitely recommend *IF* you are willing to put the effort/time into getting it setup.

I purchased this remote and hub for my wife to have only one remote to work everything. It does just that. We are even able to link to our Amazon Echo and control the hub with voice commands. Only issue was the setup but nothing serious. We found turning off the hub after setting up each activity was necessary for our tv to be programmed properly. Overall we both love it and the ability to use our phones as remotes is a great feature as well. It works our Apple TV, Samsung TV, blueray, Denon receiver and much more.

I really like this set up. It was easy to transfer all my activities over from my 650 remote. Since this remote communicates with the Hub via RF, the dogs walking in front of the entertainment center does not stop the signal. The Hub communicates with my devices via IR directly from the Hub and also has 2 ports to add mini IR blasters (Only 1 blaster comes with this package). I have also added the Harmony skills to Alexa and can control my Logitech Harmony activities from my Amazon Dot. The buttons can be customized as you need. (this remote operates my TiVo, but didn't have a "Live TV" button, so I mapped it to a button that was not being used. The feel of the remote is good too. This package is way cheaper than the Ultimate w/ Hub and is just as good if you don't mind the lack of a screen. I wish the remote had a backlit keypad, but other than that, I am happy.
