Frustrating but good when it finally works

I bought this in a package deal with an Amazon Echo Dot hoping to automate my home entertainment center. There are very few instructions or support on Logitech's web site on set up. I'm a pretty tech savvy person and this even frustrated me. It took a lot of trial and error to get this set up and working. Once I got it working and the skill enabled in Alexa it works great. Even more frustration when I got the companion remote but again once it is set up and working it's great. One big problem I had was the hub disconnecting from my wifi making set up of the remote difficult. It took a little searching on the Internet to figure out how to fix. I would give this more stars if there were more instruction on set up and support. It may even get 5 stars if I wan't having issues with disconnecting from my wifi.

    UNSURE

I will say upfront more research into this product should have been done. I thought the remote could be used independently of the hub, or in another room for example. That would be another product costing 2x as much. That is my only complaint. I will reevaluate if I keep this product. It was easy enough to set up if you've done any other smart home products, finding a device model number can be tedious.

Essential Hub for voice operated AV Center

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My entertainment center is built around an HD 7.1 AV Receiver, HDTV, Roku, Blu-ray, and various game consoles. That's a lot of remotes. I've used simpler Harmony IR remotes, which don't work on Wii consoles, but I've always used the Logitech app to list new components, and build macros to switch among inputs with only a few button clicks. Having invested in the Amazon Echo eco-system, research pointed me to the Hub. I had some concerns. How easy would it be to place it where all components could be reached by its signals? Would I have to start from scratch to set it up? Would it work with an Echo Dot? Placing the Echo Dot between the Hub and the Roku, on top of the Blu-ray, on the shelf beneath the TV, above the shelf with the AV receiver was perfect on the first try, without even breaking out the provided IR Blaster. Using the Android phone app, it was easy to set up the Hub and test it, and after that, simple to turn familiar buttons on the remote into voice commands on the Echo Dot. "Alexa, turn on the Game Console" turns on the Wii U, turns on the TV with the proper HDMI input, turns on the receiver and sets input to HDMI 2. If I tell it to watch Blu-ray, it will turn off the Wii U, turn on the disc player, and set the receiver's HDMI input. If everything is off, I can say "watch TV" and get the Roku home screen, or "watch Netflix" or "watch Amazon" and get my Amazon Prime library. "Turn off TV" shuts off everything.

    Only supports 8 devices

It was very easy to set up. I like the import feature from my other Harmony remote. That was seamless. I'm going to return it since it only supports 8 devices. With home automation exploding, that is unacceptable. I would like to control many other items than my 8 AV components. It would be nice to add lights as part of the activities, but it can only control 8 items. I also dont like that you cannot move icons or customize the button.

This device is similar to my other Logitech remote. I'd guess it works perfectly only 50% of the time. Usually it fails to turn on my sound system. Moving things around does not help. It did the same thing with another Logitech remote . One thing that decreases the experience more with this is there is a lag when connecting to wifi with your phone. Nice to have less remote clutter though. And let's face it you usually know where your phone is!

    No Remote For This Hub

    Posted .

Like smart comes with remote this doesn't come with remote for me this is not good. And when I asked the Best Buy Support team on chart that there is any remote compitable with Home Hub they say yes and they give me model number which cost more than 300 dollars good. For me there is no remote for Home Hub. But if you buy to control it from your smart phone than its okay. I am recommending the hub for the second type.

It's rare that I feel compelled to review a consumer electronics item, but this product did it. I've had Harmony remotes for 9+ years. They're good, but let's face it, they're just very fancy programmable universal remotes. This thing lets me drive my entertainment stuff from my phone. Perfect. "One UI to rule them all". The setup was very simple. There's even a "regular" remote if you're playing an exciting round of "Where's my phone?!" (tm)

Works well with the amazon echo, allows you to turn on and off the TV and change inputs just by voice control. It's pretty neat.

    Just doesn't work...

If you are only controlling 2 devices, then yea, it may be for you. I, however, have TV, Cable box, AppleTV, Xbox, and a Samsung sound bar, times 2 and the second location has an amp. In my case, I set up my living room that had all the above items, and couldn't get the sound bar to stay on the D-IN input. In the family room, I couldn't get the app to finish the set up, kept stuck in setting up even though I had finished the set up. Another issue is, you can't name the hub on the main screen of the iOS app. It just says "Harmony Hub" for each, however, once you know which one to select, you can see the name, such as NH Basement. Otherwise, it's a crapshoot. I liked the old remote I had that you would configure via a browser. I will be returning both of these hubs.

This product was extremely simple to set up and use. It is very straight forward and I haven't had a single problem with it. Works great for IR signals that are in a closet or cabinet.

    Great Centralized Automation System

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Logitech Harmony Hub provided a seamless interface with our audio system. It allowed the pairing of 5 devices into one master control unit. It alleviates the hassle of multiple component specific remotes for controlling the audio system. It's user-friendly for the family to use control the audio system with their smart phones and/or tablets.

Hub & Smartphone App Killed My AV Receiver

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Having Harmony remotes for 10 years, I was eager to upgrade to the smartphone version. Beware! While configuring the hub for my Yamaha AV receiver input (DTV/CBL setting), after hitting "confirm," my receiver was rendered completely useless. I can no longer use our TV with cable or Blu-Ray player. The AV receiver will not send any video signals to my TV. And there is no sound. Just a grey screen. I was on the phone with the extremely patient and supportive customer service rep at Logitech for 90 minutes, but they had no successful suggestions. Everything appeared to be configured correctly. My Yamaha receiver is now useless. I will attempt to see whether Yamaha has any answers. I hope to have a positive update in the coming days. In the meantime, my complete entertainment system is down thanks to Logitech.

I tried this out for 2 weeks and is so counter intuitive that frustrates the user to the point of just returning the item. Logic tech dropped the ball on this one.

Worthless if you already have a smart hub

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I already have a SmartThings hub, so I knew I wouldn't be using the Harmony Hub to control my IOT devices. I purchased it after watching videos of people connecting it to their Amazon Echo and then controlling their smart tv, most notably Netflix. Unfortunately, Netflix is the ONLY app it can control. I thought I could use it for YouTube, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. Unfortunately it doesn't do that or anything better or different than my Harmony 700 and my SmartThings hub. So if you already have a smart hub or Harmony remote, the Harmony Hub won't be worth your time or money.

Been waiting for years for this kind of technology. The Hub is the secret. Everything works with my phone. It even controls my Lutron Caseta lighting. Plus if you have even a tiny issue, just call Harmony Support, they are the best! Thanks Best Buy for the great deal
