    A Discreet Security Camera Lightbulb

Setup was relatively simple. There's a Quick Start Guide which directs you to download the Lorex App. The app has many customizations to suit your personal home security needs. Notable features: - privacy mode, so your camera will no longer be monitoring or recording - siren, in event that emergency alerts/warnings are needed - two-way talk, converse with visitors or delivery drivers in real time - set 'quick response' audio messages - record video or take a photo snapshot - turn light on/off, and adjust brightness - manage light activation settings and schedules - customize the camera's motion detection - snooze or turn off alerts - add shared users to give them access to your camera's live view and/or recordings - manage stored videos and snapshots, or view 'recent events' There's also a microSD slot for additional 'on-board' local storage for the device. Of course, you do have the option to pay for the Lorex Cloud Storage protection plan subscription, but you can use the device without getting that. Video and audio quality were similar to what I'm familiar with from my current security system devices. Color night vision was average. I didn't notice any real delay or lag, which is important when it comes to 'in the moment' security monitoring for your home. What I liked most about this lightbulb camera, was that it's unobtrusive. It mimics a real 'old school' lightbulb with its shape, and gives off a decent amount of light to see by. If you are going to use it outdoors, however, do remember to make sure it's mounted underneath an overhang or beneath a ceiling or inside a glass "housing" (with an opening for the camera to operate). You even have the choice of the lightbulb's orientation; install it upright or hanging down in a standard light socket. I'm going to give this Lorex Smart Lightbulb Camera a fair try (over a decent length of time to show how it will work out for the best), at both my front entrance and back patio; our home's two points of entry. As of now, we're going to be using this lightbulb camera as a supplementary device to go along with the security system we already have.

I was intrigued by the design and was looking forward to installing this as a light and security camera in one location without having to drill more holes in the siding of the house. I will be honest the installation instructions were pretty minimal and not overly clear to get started. I was installing this in an overhead porch light so the camera would be point down to the ground. There some audible prompts form the device when you connect it to power and you will follow along in the app. My main issue initially was the recessed light was very deep and there is a tiny qr code on the light itself you need to scan. I had a heck of a time scanning it while it was connected to the socket. But once I could get it scanned the set up in the app was super quick and easy. The controls within the app are intuitive and make sense. I could quickly see the images from the camera and control the camera from the app. This was nice to get it positioned just as I wanted it. Image quality is fine, nothing spectacular. It is nice for me to be able to monitor the entrance of my home especially with deliveries being left on the door step now. My only issue is that the camera only works when the power is ON to the socket. I suppose that makes sense but in order to have this light ON, I l also have to have my front garage lights on…. And I do not want my lights on 24 hrs a day. So this is not going to work for me in an outdoor setting since this area where I wanted it is connected to other lights and all have to be on for the camera to work.

This smart video camera is great 2K quality and the setup, as with most smart devices these days, is through a QR code that comes in the packaging. You will definitely want to download the Lorex app. It looks large but I assume that is because it has a camera and a speaker as it allows for two way communication. The other major plus is the app, Most of these gadgets come with an app these days and this one with Lorex was refreshingly sleek. You can see the live feed, communicate two way through the app and the light bulb speaker, you can sound the alarm if you see something sketchy; not to mention you can control the display settings and where the camera is pointing to. ALso be aware that this bulb is NOT connected to a cloud. You will need to use a microSD card with it. I would prefer a cloud because its easier than having to keep track of an SD card and its data load, and thankfully you have the option to utilize cloud storage with this bulb camera. Also it has night vision of course! Right around 20 feet or so for me before people and things just get too difficult to make out. Works great with Alexa! But I have heard from friends that it is not compatible with Apple Home systems. Overall, a decent cordless camera system --- if this is what you're looking for.

I have had a very good experience with Lorex over the last decade or so. From their FLIR days and now well transitioned into Dahua/Skywatch ownership. Lorex makes a great camera that is very user friendly and this Smart Lightbulb camera is no exception. If you have owned their mini indoor PT camera, then you will be well versed with the camera as it is essentially the same, given an IP65 outdoor rating, and a lighting element. Setup of the Lorex Smart Lightbulb is very simple. Screw this camera into a standard bulb receptacle, turn the power on, and wait for the camera to boot up. Both the camera and the box have a QR code that you can scan once inside the Lorex (formerly Lorex Home) app. After maybe 3 minutes you will be up and running. In true Lorex fashion, the video is very good, especially given the price point. User interface is great as well. Audio is average. In regards to the light, here is where I begin to struggle with where this camera fits in their lineup. The light itself CAN be bright. However, I have this camera set up in a hallway in which my garage entrance and stairs intersect. Its a great area of the camera, and a great area for a light. My setup is ceiling mounted with the camera on bottom and the light on top. So the light can be turned on from my phone, or when it detects a person in its field of view (or vehicle, if it was mounted outside). Most of the time, even though the camera will send me a notification that a person was detected, the light does not turn on. If the light does turn on, or if I turn it on manually, the light throws a lot of shadowy area that is incredibly annoying for me, and kind of give a dungeon or creepy basement vibe. I have honestly just found myself using a supplemental light source instead of the light attached to the camera. Now there may be a very specific scenario where this camera may be great (outdoor sconce light in a cylinder shape that is the perfect size for this bulb? Maybe a perfectly sized table lamp?), but I am struggling to find a use for the bulb and I am fairly certain I will relocate the bulb out to a wood shop on the property where appearance doesnt matter as much and it can provide at least some light when I enter before I find the regular light switch. Other items of note, Lorex no longer includes SD cards with their cameras to record footage. This means that you will either have to provide your own SD card, subscribe to their cloud storage, or add it to one of their fusion series NVRs. Lorex, if you are listening, I have a suggestion. I like the concept of this bulb, but you currently offer a different PTZ camera (model LNZ43P4A) that has a centrally mounted camera. If you took this form factor, made the light a halo style around the base, and mounted the PT camera in the center, it would be a HUGE hit. Until then, I think this one attempts to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

The easiest camera setup ever. Just screw it in to an existing socket and set it up through the app and you’re Good! I think that’s the most important to know. Now I love this camera/light bulb setup. I use this indoors as opposed to outside on the porch light where you think it makes the most sense when you look at it. (already have a camera there). Anyway I keep track of my dogs through out the day with this, I have it in a small lamp that uses full size bulb sockets and it sticks up just enough above the shade so I can pan to see everything in the house. The software/app is pretty good, the controls are fine and everything works as you would think and intended. I like the fact that you can bookmark certain views and easily set one of those as “Home”. I think it’s really well thought out and would love to get another one for other rooms in the house. The 2K video and the night vision put this camera over the top for me. It’s actually been a really great experience. Also you can set a schedule as to when the light comes on and for how long etc. also it detects motion and will turn the light on if you turn the setting on

    Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera - White

Lorex - 2K Wi-Fi Smart Lightbulb Camera - White is a very durable product. Boxing - packed very nice and secure without fail. App - Easy to download and install. Was able to get the app installed and the bulb setup. Camera - very sharp images and was easy to adjust to get the most images to view the backyard. Placed it on a post out by the gate and it came on in a few steps. Wasn't aware of the brand itself but impressed so far with how much quality the bulb feels. Adjustments and options are very good. Able to setup and get the light and camera working with ease of use. No issues with connecting to my network, nor recognizing both the light and the camera. Easy settings and configurations to make this very customized to your situation. Clearly can see faces and people which may enter the back yard or the gate before things can go bad. I was a bit concerned if it would fit my light fixture in my front yard and I was correct, but the backyard wasn't an issue. I was very impressed that it was so easy to fit in an existing fixture, just make sure you measure how much space you have in the fixture you expect.

The Lorex - 2K WiFi Smart Lightbulb Camera is a great option for those who are looking to add a camera to their system without having to install wiring or power to their homes. Install couldn’t get any simpler. The Lorex 2K smart lightbulb can be installed in any existing lightbulb socket. We all have existing lighting around our homes, front porch, back porch and the garage. I have mine installed in one of the two light fixtures in front of my garage. All you have to do is remove your existing lightbulb and replace it with the Lorex Smart Lightbulb. Follow the included instructions, download the Lorex app and you’re good to go if you’ve installed any of these types of smart devices. The only issue I can see is if your lighting fixture is smaller than the Lorex smart lightbulb then you may have fitment issues so make sure you check the dimensions of the product. Video quality is surprisingly decent & I don’t have any issues. You can set presets to have the camera point at specific areas which I thought was very handy instead of manually moving the camera. One thing I did notice is that the camera does not rotate a full 360 degrees or at least continuously. When the camera reaches a certain point it will stop and you will have to rotate the opposite direction instead of just continuing one fluid motion. One big plus for me is the option to use your own storage media like an SD card instead of having to pay for cloud storage which the Lorex does offer. The Lorex smart lightbulb does actually have a light above the camera portion itself but it’s not that bright. It also has preset messages that you can use to reply to anyone and it is fairly loud. I’ve noticed that sometimes notifications can be hit or miss in the sense that when you receive a notification and you click on it from the app sometimes it takes 20-30 seconds for it to connect to the camera and by that time you miss the live feed of the occurrence. Other than that it is solid in all other aspects & quality for the price.

The Lorex 2K Smart Lightbulb Camera is a pretty clever idea to integrate a camera as an attachment to a light bulb that fits in a regular light socket. The installation is similar to other security cameras, once you have it powered on, basically screwed in to a light bulb socket that’s turned on, scan the QR code to download and install the Lorex App on your phone, create an account, and follow the instructions in the App to add the camera to your Wi-Fi network. It also had a firmware update, which is also very common among most models. 2K image quality is pretty crisp during the day and decent during the night, though it certainly gets better once the light bulb part of it is turned on. It is not super bright, probably the equivalent of a 40 Watt incandescent bulb. The intensity of the light is adjustable through the App and the light can also be triggered by the built-in motion sensor or put on a schedule. Much like most other cameras, the recommended recording method is to the vendor’s cloud account for a fee. But this Lorex does have a microSD-card slot for local recording, which is what I’ll be using. The coolest feature is the PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) functionality that gives you 360 coverage from above. The motorized camera capability is the reason why this unit is quite a bit bigger than a regular light bulb, so you won’t be able to conceal it as much. Overall, this is a decent setup for a reasonably low price and the convenience of not needing any additional wiring or power supplies, but with some limitations because you can only install it into a light bulb socket.

In the world of smart cameras you really have to stick out. At this point there are so many options in the market that it's hard to make a choice when everything feels the same. This camera definitely took a different approach and fills a very unique space. I've owned many smart cameras but never one like this. The biggest challenge with this device was finding a spot that made sense. Since it screws directly into a light socket I had to find a light that was around an area I wanted to monitor and at the same time not care that a giant camera was hanging out of a light socket. The first thing I noticed about this camera is it's size. It's significantly bigger than a normal light bulb both in length and size. So if you're wanting this to be hidden you're going to have a challenge. Once I set the camera up, which was support simple his the app, I really liked the camera. The 360 pan tilt is really unique and makes it easy to monitor the exact areas you want by moving the camera position in the app. The video and audio quality is great and on past with other high end cameras. It also integrates with Google home really well. What I've noticed about these light/camera combos is usually you can't control both the light and camera in Google home. But this camera adds tiles for both the light and camera which works great. Overall if you have a spot for this camera you'll be pleased with it's functionality and ease of use.

I currently have security camera setups from three separate ecosystems/brands that I have been using in my home for the past few years. They range from highly affordable to fairly expensive. All of them I set up myself--from the physical installation of the cameras and wiring, to the app downloading and establishing connection to WiFi, to the registration and fine tuning of movement areas, notifications and audio/visual recordings, cloud services, everything. I can unequivocally state that this Lorex security camera system is the easiest installation and setup I have ever experienced, bar none. The number one positive aspect of this security camera system that I absolutely will praise to the skies is this: how it can simply be installed by screwing it into a light bulb socket. No more running wires everywhere! No compromising on camera placement due to limitations on where electrical sockets are in your house! No more replacing batteries over and over and over again! For our house, we have security cameras that are both wired and wireless. The wired ones were such a pain to install outside, largely because of having to run all the wires to the inside of our house, but also due to the actual physical installation and placement of the cameras (drilling and such). But, then we didn't have to deal with batteries. Cue the wireless cameras, which were great because then we didn't have to deal with wires and it was a lot easier to place them wherever we wanted, but ugh--we dread getting the notifications that the batteries are running low and we have to replace them. Obviously it's not a daily or weekly or even monthly event, but the batteries run out often enough that it's very annoying and inconvenient, and if you happen to have a lot of recorded movements or you check your cameras often enough, or need to monitor certain areas...well, the batteries don't last long enough. So when I came upon this Lorex "lightbulb" camera, my interest was extremely piqued. I was floored by the idea of never needing wires AND never needing to constantly change out batteries. Ironically, it's the equivalent of the revolutionary invention of the lightbulb! It's so easy to install...just screw it in a lightbulb socket and DONE. Installation time? A few seconds! Download the app, connect to WiFi, complete registration, done. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. And there are no compromises in quality--the picture, sound, video, notifications, everything--it's all excellent. And the camera has pan and tilt functionality that you can control seamlessly via the app, which also works perfectly. Of course, it is an actual LED lightbulb too, which you can turn on and off remotely via the app (and program as well); you can also record video, take screenshots, have 2-way audio communication; it has both car and person detection, and storage choices--you can either do a cloud subscription or you can use secure local storage (use your own microSD card). Worth a 5-star review!

I have to say I was intrigued by this. The idea of a camera in a lightbulb socket isn't entirely new but it's rare enough, add an actual smart bulb to it and it's a unique item. Packaging: To start, packaging is basic, no frills. The box is not much bigger than the item itself, includes basic documentation and that's about it. Setup: As with everything these days, setup is done via app with registration of an account. Discovery and configuration is quick and easy. It's important to know though that since this uses a bulb socket, placement is important. Glare or shrouds/shades can quickly get in the way. This really is best in an exposed light socket like might be in a garage or workshop. I know this is all obvious statement but it's worth stating so that if you don't have something like that you won't block the camera, cause excess glare from the light or limit visibility. Use: The image quality is excellent, the vehicle and human detection works well. It can even pan to follow something once detected which is a wholly unique feature in my experience as most smart cameras are stationary. If you're looking to secure an area, particularly something like a garage this gives a level of flexibility without having to rely on batteries that most options in the segment just don't have. Overall: Fills an interesting and entirely useful segment of camera based security. Effective and well thought out. I greatly recommend it

    Another Hit from Lorex

I have owned multiple Lorex products over the years, starting with their POE security camera systems. Their products are durable and their software is frequently updated. Some of their smart systems have been in use for 5+ years with continued support. When thinking about smart security products, Lorex is above the rest. That's at least by soap box on why you should always highly consider any of their products. I was intrigued by the release of this product. Having utilized doorbell cams and security cameras, I wasn't sure how best to integrate this camera. One of the best things about it is the versatility. I started with placing inside the home to monitor my dog. I found it fun and useful. I then realized I could use it with a lamp to monitor the hallway of my front entrance when service workers would come by. This allowed an extra piece of mind if I wasn't home, but they were entering. I then decided to put it in my back patio. I already have perimeter cameras, but the problem is that they are placed a little higher for general views. I then placed this out front and installed a different patio light. That was the key. I could now pan around my front porch and garage, which was a game changer. This allowed for higher level of monitoring. Setup/App: find a lightbulb outlet and you're good to go. The app is great and allows for full control and set up. The app does glitch with loading from time to time (also happens on my doorbell cam), I think it's the product WiFi itself and not the app. My POE system doesn't have the same issues. Features: -Pan/tilt: first time I've had a camera with this. Super useful but can lag on the app -Two way coms: easy to use, clear communication, mild lag at times -Night vision: nothing amazing but not bad with good lighting -Light bulb: Not a fan of 6500K, brightness is good. Don't use for primary lighting Bottom line: I would recommend it if you are in the market for something like this. I really have enjoyed Lorex products and will continue to use them in the future.

I have one side of the house, that doesn’t have an outlet so figuring out how to mount a plug in camera is an issue. So I was happy to receive the Lorex Smart Lightbulb Camera. It is larger than what I thought it would be and looked like an entire camera was in the light bulb. I had difficulty with the Lorex app. I first downloaded it to my iPhone but it took along time to get connected to my internet but I couldn’t get it to work. I finally deleted the app and totally started over and finally got it set up. It has multiple settings in the app including Snapshot, Record Video, Talk, Siren, Light, Response and Privacy Mode. A SD card can also be added. It can also be connected to Alexa or Goggle Assistant. It picks up abnormal sounds and this setting can be adjusted. I generally like to use a camera app on both my iPhone and my IPad but this app would log me out of whatever device I was using. It is in a location where there is not much activity so I don’t get many notifications but hopefully it would pick up an intruder.

Thanks for sharing your detailed feedback on our new camera.

To use the Lorex app on several devices at the same time, you need to create a new Lorex account with a separate email address, and then add it as a Shared User from the main account. You will need a separate account for each device, then you will not get logged out.
