Customers are saying

Customers love the excellent image and night vision quality produced by this 4K wired DVR security system. Many appreciate the clear video quality, both during the day and at night. However, some users found the motion detection settings needed adjustment to reduce unnecessary alerts. Improvements to the motion detection sensitivity could enhance the overall user experience.

First of all, ordering online from Best Buy was easy as it always is. The product, I’m sure, is great but didn’t include the 2 4-way power adapters as listed on the box and product description. I tried calling Lorex support to file a warranty claim for the missing parts and held on the line for the next available representative for an hour and 24 minutes before giving up. Instead, I opted to buy a cost-effective compatible alternative, which I’m waiting to have delivered. Hopefully it works!

Camera is great but the motion detection is the worst I’ve ever seen. At night it would pick up bugs and lights. During the day time it doesn’t pick up cars pulling in the drive way smh. Make 0 sense. Even after adjusting the motion detections, it doesn’t help. I get 100 notifications daily of nothing but when I pull in the drive way or anyone else, it doesn’t detect it.

Definitely don’t recommend. It don’t record audio and the notifications do not work properly, it notifies me sometimes, even when I try resetting and testing it. The worst part is only 1 phone can be connected to receive notifications. The quality of picture is not great.

This isn’t my first Lorex surveillance system. But it is the first 4K one. I absolutely loved the 1080P resolution of the first as well as its excellent quality even in low light so it is not surprising that this model keeps all that and adds even more features. The box comes with everything: 8 excellent cameras, one HDMI, 8 x BNC, an Ethernet cable to connect to your modem/router, and a very good looking NVR (not those ugly things usually included with this type of system). No it’s not wireless but it is much better since you only need to run the cables to where the cameras will be installed, and you don’t have to worry about bringing power to them since power is fed through the same cable used for data and video. No, batteries that would need to be charged or replaced when you most needed the system running. Setup was easy although it required some work running the cables. Just had the NVR connected to a 4K TV, connected the included mouse, downloaded the app and followed the easy instructions. Couldn’t be easier than that. I like the fact that you can record everything on site but still see from anywhere with Internet access without paying for any subscription. The interface is stunning on a 4K TV and it is not bad at all on a phone or tablet (I tested with iPhone and iPad). The wide view is perfect. You can see most of both sides of a street for instance. The light that is turned on when somebody is nearby looks bright if you’re looking at it but it does not illuminate as well as a flood light. Still, it is enough to get a good image in color and high definition. Actually, the image is always in color even in the dark. A siren can be activated although only manually after you’re alerted of a possible intruder and decide to scare them away. You can set a virtual fence so you’re not alerted when somebody is not inside your property, and it can recognize faces in two channels. The only thing that I didn’t like was the BNC cables. My previous Lorex used Ethernet cables which I prefer for many reasons, such as ease of use and easy manageability. It is a 5-star product in every other way. I would have taken only half a star if I could but since that’s not an option, I’m rating it as 4 stars, but it is highly recommendable. If you don’t already have Ethernet cables installed, there is not much of a difference between Ethernet and BNC to install. So you might not care about the type of cable it uses for the cameras.

This is just a over priced system. The camras does not have a vioce recorder and the only this thats voice is the app right back to the DVR. But that still does no good. The app also loads at the wrong time. When your watching a recording the sysytem will cut out and show loading . Just at the wrong time when you are trying to see detail, after it loads on the screen its already gone. So it cuts out some of the recording. It will send you notification 24/7 even if you adjust the Sensitivity but when you do turn it down it will not pick a person up So i do not recommend this product unless you want to pay to much for a low rated system.

Best buy doesn't know what they're selling. Cameras don't have microphone and no audio... 4K is as good as 1080... Thinking about return and get similar Lorex system with 10 cameras for the same price from Costco

This is a good system worth the investment of time to install it properly. Setup all by itself is not too bad and the system does come with enough cabling to do most homes and run to a central point. I would definitely recommend taking the time to plan out runs so you can hide the wires or hire a professional to do that part. You can get additional cables from Lorex if you have some that need to be a bit longer though I didn't have that issue in my setup. In terms of the software and App it works exactly as advertised (almost too well if you don't setup zones or the virtual fence properly). It does support face recognition and integration with Google Assistant which I was able to get working so you can trigger alarms or view cameras. I will say that the detection works better than my last system to help filter out false alarms like pets or bugs close up to the camera like my past system does where I ended up just turning off the motion detection because of all the false alarms. For picture quality, this system is good enough for your home but the lower framerate in a fast moving situation can be a drawback so I'd say this could be a negative if you're looking for a camera that captures at a high framerate with good quality. That said, it does surprisingly well even at night with poor lighting outside. These cameras would capture enough detail especially where you have so many you can use to setup to capture things from different angles which is a good peace of mind. For analog Smart Camera's this is definitely the best system I've setup and used and I would say is worth recommending in terms of quality/ease of use. The best part of this system is there are no monthly fees and there's plenty of storage to record all of the detail you need at a constant recording rate. The mobile app and onboard access makes it easy to review recorded footage with features that make it easy to see motion that's recorded and playback speed (which some systems do not have and is painful when you're trying to find an event when you're not sure of the time). You can also export the footage and back it up off the DVR easily as well. I'd recommend this system as it's very much the top end of the analog camera systems and has some nice features like the virtual fence and Google Assistant that make it easier to use in a home environment to watch your garage, driveway and entrances to your home and there are plenty of cameras to capture many good angles clearly for that!

This is a great surveillance system. The picture quality is absolutely fantastic. Before I got this system, I had a couple of wireless HD cameras that you had to pay monthly fees for. One of the best things about this system is no fees! You still get an app that you can check remotely and set up notifications and stuff. And the picture quality absolutely blows my old system out of the water. 4K actually makes the footage useful. With my old HD cameras, anything that wasn't a few feet in front of the camera was so blurry, it might as well not have even been on camera. With these 4K cams, you can zoom in pretty good and still see some good detail, like license plate numbers, faces, etc. Definitely more useful if you ever find the need for it. They even have great night vision picture. They have a mode where the light will come on, allowing for full color recording. Definitely better than the blurry black and white my old camera would do. The build quality is also top notch. They feel very well made, and I have no worries that they will survive just fine in the somewhat unpredictable Central Texas weather. There's only a couple things I think could be improved. First off, this particular system has BNC connections. I feel like PoE is more modern and future proof. Second, and my biggest complaint, is the app. Once you get it all dialed in and figured out, it's really not all that bad, but just right off the bat, there's gonna be a learning curve. My biggest issue was with setting up smart zones. I don't want notifications every time a car drives by on the street, so I love letting up smart zones to ignore movement in certain areas. The only problem, is you can't really do this in the app, even though it looks like you can. I spent many hours trying to set it up and use different settings and stuff, all to no avail. Only to finally figure out that no matter what I did in the app, the main unit's settings were overriding whatever I did in the app. So, you have to set all your smart zones on the main unit. Once you get that all set up and squared away, it actually works like a charm. Just wish the app was a bit more intuitive. That's where I have to hand it to the "monthly fee" guys; they have much more user friendly apps. Even with those gripes, I still give the system 5 stars overall. Because in the end, the most important thing about a camera system is picture quality and reliability. And that is where this system really shines.
