This unit comes in a fairly big box and is well packaged. The first thing you will need to do is do lay out all the components to organize what wires go with each camera. The instructions are pretty straight forward and setup is fairly easy once you identify the camera locations and how to route the wires. The wires connect to the cameras securely but can be a little hard to twist on. It would be nice if the wires from the cameras were longer so the connection could be hid easier. The base is configured using an included mouse and on screen keyboard. Attaching a keyboard would make typing much easier. Once you have everything hooked up you can view your camera feeds on either an attached TV or through the Lorex app from anywhere. Picture quality is great in bright or low light. The 2TB base includes plenty of record storage and it runs in a continuous loop. The time stamp on recordings makes it easier to locate a specific date / time to view. If you don't mind the time to install a wired system, you will pleased with the quality and ease of use in viewing. If you don't have the time, I suggest getting it professionally installed.

Because it is a wired system, the installation takes a little time which I think is necessary since it is a surveillance system that will protect your home or business, once you have installed the cameras the configuration is easy, with the Lorex Home app can be done simply and safely. The performance of the cameras in my opinion is quite good, I must say that for an 8-channel DVR the price is quite convenient, since in addition to not having to pay subscription or any kind of fee, the video quality is great. It has night mode with a clear image that really allows you to see at night, if it were a low light situation, the cameras are capable of capturing color video. During the day it is possible to have a considerable area covered since the field of vision is extensive. One of the things that gives it 5 stars is that the app is a great help since it is like a control center where you can check whenever you want, whatever is happening in real time in addition to receiving notifications if movement is detected in addition to this, the cameras have a light and an alarm that can be configured to activate if a person is detected who should not be in that place at that time. The storage capacity seems to be enough, in my opinion 2tb is a good amount of memory considering there are 8 cameras that can be installed, the image quality that is projected on a 4k screen is really good, I can conclude that for the price and the ease with which you can configure and install this home surveillance system, it is one of the best options if you do not want to pay monthly to a security company, with patience, time and correct configuration you can obtain a fairly good result. If you want to have 24/7 security and surveillance at home, I can highly recommend this Lorex surveillance system.

This new home video surveillance system has a sleek design and allows for easy connection and setup. The cameras are equipped with wide-angled lenses that help when trying to look over the entire areas of the front and back yards, allowing for less cameras with a broader coverage. The wind does set the sensors off at time dues to movement of some of the shorter people shaped trees and other yard items. Ended up placing three cameras in various areas of the front of our home (rancher) to be able to see the side, main, and driveway. Views are crystal clear and easy see day/night. To fit our needs, we have the entire system wired into a home hall closet after having a secondary upper shelf to support the DVR unit itself, a 24-inch monitor, and having an outlet installed (outside contractor). Key thing to note is that we did run ethernet to the location also as the router and additional household goodies are in the home office. The intent was to keep the main unit out of ease of a burglary “grab and go”. Additionally, with how close the closet is to the home-office, we have it wired into a larger screen in home-office to be able to see without having to go to the closet or pull up the app when want a quick peek (kid household). Mainly use the app when away from home or when a notification pops up. Some of the locations of the camera did require a longer cable than what was provided. Easily found in my local Best Buy. Installation does take time, especially with determining the best location to place the cameras, angles, and running cables.

This is my second Lorex Surveillance system I've owned. Much like the first the build quality is very nice. Setup is easy, the only thing that's more work with this set is running the wires internally to the cameras to wherever you want them on your house for best coverage. The clarity and sharpness in the video capture is excellent. Whether it be day or night you can see clearly throughout the image area as if you were looking through a window. The cree led is extremely bright really packing a punch for such a small size. The mobile app has some great features and allows you to setup alerts when you are away and need to be sure everything is safe and sound at home I was very pleased with the quality and both clarity in this setup and the number of cameras gives you ample amount of coverage. I'd recommend this to others looking for a great surveillance system

Good wired 4K security camera system

The Lorex Wired 4K UHD is a good system for securing your home or business. Setup is fairly easy and straightforward. However, you will need a computer monitor that supports an HDMI connection or an HDMI compatible TV. It comes with an HDMI cable, Ethernet cable, and computer mouse for setup. It would be nice to setup the unit strictly from a mobile device. It does support viewing and interacting with your cameras using the Lorex mobile app. The mobile app does not support initial setup and does not have as many custom options that the local DVR has. The 4K cameras all have a very clear picture. Night mode is clear, but it’s in Black & White and not Color. There’s a speaker on the cameras, but it’s for the siren. There’s no mic on the cameras, so you will not be able to hear sound. The cameras are made of plastic, unlike some of the other Lorex models that have a metal casing. Despite being made of plastic, I think it will be just fine for my needs. The people and vehicle detection is an added bonus, and you can customize your zones for areas you do not want the cameras to detect motion. Overall, this a good wired system.

Had lorex cameras installed today and we do not like them. They do not have a clear picture of person inside or outside the house. Only one person with one email can view the cameras. Not worth the 500.00 I paid for them. Do not buy.

Theft Deterrent Cameras with Improved Software

KEY FEATURES 4k UHD Cameras with Night Vision 2TB 7200rpm Surveillance HDD HDMI & VGA Video Output Remote Access and Monitoring USB 3.0 for Video Back-Up FIRST IMPRESSIONS This is my 2nd Lorex camera system. My 1st system was a Lorex NVR that I have maxed out with cameras and still required more channels. Many of the Pros/Cons of the NVR system still carryover to this DVR system, but luckily Lorex has corrected some of the major Cons that were encountered during the setup of the NVR making the entire process smoother and easier. INITIAL SET-UP Lorex has spent some time and attention and the bare bones initial configuration is more streamlined. Lorex should be commended on working out some of the bugs encountered on their previous systems. Initial set-up was smooth and hassle-free. Even the initial firmware update downloaded and installed without issue. Excellent work! This could not be said for my previous system. A nice feature is that this system has simultaneous VGA and HDMI outputs for set-up. Initial resolution is 1280 x 1024, so you aren't required to have a 4k TV for initial configuration and deployment, though it is recommended for best overall picture quality. Transitioning from 1280 to 4k involved little more than a "Yes" click, as the Lorex system automatically detected that I had connected the DVR to a 4k TV via HDMI. Outstanding. This is already leaps and bounds smoother than my NVR set-up was! Camera installation is simple. A coaxial cable, terminated with a BNC connector, along with a low voltage (12V) wire piggybacking it, are all that is needed for hook-up. A single 12V wall-wart power supply provides enough current for 4 cameras. Lorex includes a 1 - into - 4 power splitter for just this purpose. It is a great feature, as you don't need to find a 120V power source close to the camera, often mounted under the soffit of your house. USE After connecting cameras and configuring recording, Lorex provides you with a QR code to download their Lorex home app via the Apple or Google Play store. What a vastly improved experience compared to last. I downloaded the app via the Google Play store and setting up the DVR for remote access couldn't have been easier. Scan the QR code for the app, install it, create an account if you don't have one, scan the QR code on the side of the DVR. Done! Remote access enabled (assuming you have hooked it up to your internet via the included ethernet cable). Remote access worked immediately. I didn't have to configure any port forwarding rules on my router to make the DVR accessible. Superb job Lorex! Lorex's smart detection has proven very solid on my NVR and so far has performed excellently on this DVR. The notifications will alert you to a person or vehicle and if you take the time to enter people's faces into the system, will notify you of a familiar face, or not. While not flawless, it does work pretty well. My favorite feature is still the deterrent feature of the camera. Each camera has a LED in it and is programmable so that if it detects a human or vehicle, can be configured to illuminate the area. While the LED doesn't provide enough light to enable color night vision, the simple fact that it illuminates the area is enough to make would-be criminals take notice. I have this feature enabled on my older NVR also, it has never failed to illuminate upon detection. Awesome. CONS Initial set-up has been improved over Lorex's previous products, but the Lorex app still has some quirkiness that new users will need a few minutes to figure out. There are just a lot of options to go to to fully configure the cameras for optimal recording and performance. The Lorex app tries its best to be user-friendly, but there quite a few sub-menus to navigate to in order to optimize all the configurations. A thorough revamp would be welcomed in order to put all features in a more logical order. To be fair to Lorex, all companies do it their own way. Once you do it, you will get the hang of it, but there is a learning curve to the app that Lorex's competitors do better. Initial camera recording is set up for 4k, but at only 7 FPS. 7 FPS isn't enough to get a good, smooth image. Others have reported that 4k maxes out a 7FPS, and I can confirm that the highest quality recording option is 4k, 7FPS, 4096bps CBR. Even the sub-stream for mobile viewing is locked at 7FPS. The DVR is only equipped with a 2TB HDD, so 8 cameras recording in 4k fills that HDD up fairly quickly. Thankfully, Lorex makes it relatively easy for the end user to replace that 2TB with up to an 8TB HDD. Lastly, I am just not sold on using old-school analog cabling for HD recording and transmission. Lorex uses an uncommon (it looks to be un-shielded) coaxial cable for installation and it is not a standard RG-6 or RG-59 coax. So, you are initially limited to that cable without purchasing extensions. You also cannot cut the cable and put a new end on it like you easily can with ethernet or common RG-6 or RG-59 cable to improve the installation tidiness. My OCD really considers this a negative. If your camera run is only a few feet, you have tons of cord looped up and hanging somewhere. Also, if your installation is further than what is supplied by Lorex, you are left looking for a solution to lengthen the cable. Were these cameras all POE, those longer runs would be a non-issue. FINAL THOUGHTS Lorex has spent time and improved upon their existing products. Issues that I encountered installing and configuring their older NVR and camera system have either been resolved or improved upon. A person can't ask for much more than that. The Lorex app has proven to be a consistent and reliable performer on my Android smartphones and the notifications of vehicle or foot traffic are nearly flawless, rarely confusing the AI. While I am not a fan of the overall Lorex user interface. It does have all the necessary options the user needs to configure the system and cameras. I just find it clunky and somewhat difficult to navigate. It gets easier after using it a few times, but after not using the software for some time, it is not as easy to pick back up as are Lorex's competitors like Synology. In the end, I think Lorex has done an admiral job at refining their user experience and this kit offers a solid value for the money. I do not like the non-standard coaxial cabling for the cameras and would prefer a POE solution any day of the week. But, the coax gets the job done and with minimal fuss and drama. Recommended.

    Capable Wired Security Camera System

SUMMARY ------------- An excellent 4k 8 camera system which is loaded with features like - 1. Person detection 2. Siren 3. Panic button 4. app to remote access videos 5. Notifications on phone 6. Local 2TB storage and no fees! What's in the box ----------------------- 1. 8 Camera 2. 8 BNC cables 3. 1 HDMI 4. 1 NVR DETAILS ----------- Pros ---- 1. Excellent 4k videos 2. 8 cameras and IP67 rated. 3. Configuring monitoring area is possible 4. Person detection to avoid false alerts. 5. Can be connected to internet to be accessible from app. Cons ------- 1. With the NVR supported Wifi, need to be hard wired. Setup and Build -------------------- The build quality is outstanding and LOREX has been for a while and they know how to build wired camera systems. The 4K cameras are IP67 rating which means it can stand dust and heavy windy rain. The cameras can go 131F and up to -40F. So this one is really outdoor proof. The cameras are supplied with all the accessories needed to hook this one on to the wall and to be able to connect this to the base unit. Note that this is a hard wired camera and you will need to run cables to the base unit. The camera system also supports mobile phone setup on both the apple and android operating system. You can download and create an account to access your cameras remotely. Just make sure that the NVR is connected to the internet. I would have loved the NVR to be Wi-Fi capable rather than connecting the ethernet cable. Once you connect the NVR to the cameras and your TV, it will guide you through step by step of the setup. Note that, internet is not needed for the camera, however if you want to access the video through your android or iPhone app you will need to connect it to the computer. Usage and recording ---------------------------- The cameras provide stunning video in 4K quality in both daylight and night. The cameras are also configurable to select a zone to sense motion. The cameras also have a feature of remote alarm in the form of an LED light and an alarm to ward off intruders. The camera sends notifications when you setup up motion detection and include an area to check for motion. I love the feature of person detection which makes sure that you get notified of anyone in the front door instead of any cars whizzing past in the view/monitoring area. Best part of the camera is that this is not a paid cloud service like other wireless providers. THERE IS NO MONTHLY FEE as the video is recorded in local 2TB reliable hard drive. This way you can reference back to the recorded videos at your leisure. The hard drive automatically overwrites on older recordings and you don’t run out of space. Overall a capable wired camera system

This Lorex 8 Camera system replaced my aging system and with it I was able to add 4 more camera’s giving me total view of all my entire yard. I will begin by saying if you’re not a do-it-yourself person, I recommend hiring a professional installer. So, I began by installing all off my camera’s and running all wires to the location of the DVR. This process took me about 3 hours to do. The set up of the DVR was straight forward and easily paired to my mobile device. I liked that this system came with everything in box needed to get started. The only thing I need was a few tools that I already had. I am very happy with this new system, the video produced by this system is crisp and clear. Even the night images are sharp. Now to explain the title, “Caught Someone In The Act”. A few days after the completion of installation and setup, my Lorex caught an individual breaking into one of my vehicles and taking items that do not belong to them. This system got a clear look at their face and I was able to provide the footage to the local authorities. I really like this new camera system and I definitely do recommend anyone looking for a good surveillance system, you will not go wrong with this one.

I highly recommend the Lorex 8 channel 8 camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance system.I am quite pleased with the range and clarity of the cameras, especially when using the night vision aspect. One camera was able to detect nearly across my whole backyard, which is about 150' in length. I will use at least two to protect the entire backlot, but the picture quality is superior and exceeds all other systems. The audio feature does not come standard on the initial install and will need additional adapters/components to enable. I am using as a closed, local setup and upon further review of the manual the audio section of the system is labeled as optional. This is my only complaint. Overall, a great security system.

I got this security system because there have been a series of break-ins and other crimes happening around my home. With eight cameras, I can have a clear view of my entire property without any blind spots. It was relatively easy to install once the wires were run. I had a family member who knows how to do it but it seems like it could be done without having to call an electrician. After that, mounting the cameras was straight forward and didn't take too long. Now I can see what's going on at home even when I'm away thanks to the easy to use app and with such high resolution video, I can make out the smallest details.

This camera system is great. The Lorex - 8-Channel, 8-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System has served well so far at my small business. I did have to pay someone in order to install. I like how there is monthly payments, as the hard drive records all of the video feed. The app is helpful as well, to monitor all of the cameras away from home.
