My original Lorex 8 cam DVR died abruptly, surprisingly early. I bought a big surge suppressor UPS and this unit. It was pretty close to plug and play, and was a quick and superior replacement.

I got these 4k cameras on sale for 350.00 at best buy. The quality is great for this price. I am happy with this purchase. They come with 4 wired cameras. I like the modern look of the cameras as well

The resolution is great. I can now see the wrinkles of people if they’re close enough. I can also scream at the people through the cameras app who don’t pick up their dog poop.

Did homework on the Ring System and read reviews. Was looking for another system where the monthly monitoring is not that of ADT or Protection One. Finally got it hooked up and ready.

Installation of the Lorex - 8-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System is pretty straight forward even if this is your first time. The included documentation is very helpful and the connections are self-explanatory. Much like any other wired security camera system, the most difficult part is routing the 60 foot camera wires through the attic or side of the house. I still prefer the PoE NVR systems that just use a CAT5 cable that carries the signal, power and audio if so equipped over a single, thinner wire that can be as long as ~ 300ft...with the bulky BNC signal connector and additional banana plug power connector, you have to drill a bigger hole for outdoor installations and have shorter cable length restrictions. The setup of the DVR and camera registration is an intuitive step by step process, best accomplished with the DVR connected to a monitor via the included HDMI cable or old-school VGA cable (not included). The DVR is quite stylish, looking more like a cable box or TiVo, except that it's white which may not please everyone who prefers the black home theater A/V components. I like the fact that it has a power on/off switch in the back. Other similarly priced security camera systems do not have one. The pre-installed 2 TB hard drive seems to be performing well and offers ample recording time, even up to a month or so, depending on the resolution and other recording settings. The image quality coming out of these 4K cameras is very crisp with vivid colors during the day and very reasonable at night, even with some color with very little light. The bright deterrence LED light can potentially scare intruders away at night, especially if you don't have too big a house and the cameras are not installed too high-up. The audible alarm seems to have become a bit of a trend, but personally I don't think it will get much use and could become annoying if you don't set up the proper detection zones and thresholds. Despite the 4K resolution and pretty good digital zoom capabilities, it doesn't seem you can actually get a car's license plate, even at less than 50ft away, so I still won't be able to catch the kids who knocked down my mailbox driving recklessly around the neighborhood...Also the video is a bit choppy, doesn't look like 30fps, I'll have to play around with the DVR settings some more. The smartphone app is decent, could use some refinement, but it's better than other popular brands. That may be in part because Lorex has been around as a reputable Canadian security company that was bought out by FLIR, an even more popular commercial camera imaging company. Unfortunately they are now owned by a Chinese company (Dahua) which has been known to have firmware security issues in recent years, but hopefully they don't write the software for the Lorex systems. Just make sure you have a good firewall setup with your Internet router. Overall this is an affordable, quality security camera system, expandable to 8 cameras, relatively easy to setup, with great (still) image quality, lots of useful features, Alexa and Google Assistant integration for voice commands and best of all, no monthly fees to pay for cloud storage, cause it stores it all on the generous 2 TB internal hard drive.

100% absolutely worth every penny! It even comes with 60ft cables for EACH camera, which we ended up using to replace a few of the old cables.
