This laptop is typical of the products produced by Apple. The laptop supplies what you need and makes it so easy that at the end of the day you wonder at the joy of something doing the right thing when you have no idea what is going on but you know the bliss of not having to worry about the right thing.

Excellent laptop! Powerful. Lightweight, super compact. It is wedge shaped and gets thinner from back to front and top to bottom. I bought this Mac air 2020 M1 because I needed an upgrade from an older windows laptop and I love the iOS system in my iPhones. The ARM technology (M1 silicon chip) is supposed to optimize all or almost all apps used on iPhones in order to work on MacBook M1’s. Apple says the M1 is much closer to iPhone OS’ and apps, as opposed to older MacBooks OS’ and apps. I’m not sure about all older MacBooks but as far as the new 2020 M1 MacBooks, this is the only one with a rounded front edge, making it more comfortable to type on in extended typing sessions. If you’re going to be doing a lot of typing, go with the MacBook Air 2020 M1. The battery lasts forever, on a full charge it lasts for 15 hrs+ maybe more! The speakers are great, I’ve never had a laptop with built in speakers that sound this good! Always seemed to need a secondary external speaker set up, not anymore though! I went with the 256 GB SSD as I’m not doing massive rendering or commercial level photo editing so the 256 GB SSD has plenty of what I need. Talk about fast, even with this base model, 7 core GPU, 8 core CPU & 8 GB of Ram, this thing flies! Way faster than anything I’ve used or seen in a laptop. If you go with the 256 GB SSD or less, you may want to get an external 1 or 2 TB + hard drive to save your system back ups and all other info, files, pics etc. on. Just in case of a crash or issue that requires rolling back to the last good save point. It will also keep the RAM uncluttered and running as fast as possible. You will need an external dongle or adapter being that there are only 2 Thunderbolt C ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the MacBook Air 2020 M1. I recommend an adapter with ports for USB, Micro and macro memory card reader slots, Ethernet, HDMI and one with which you can plug in and have a power source charging while you use it. Thunderbolt C ports are much faster at downloading and transferring data through than USB. Now, I don’t like that I had to install and pay for Parallels software to use windows. You can get a two week free trial subscription to try it out first before paying for a year. It is needed to run windows on all MacBook 2020 M1’s. There are step by step video tutorials on YouTube of how to download Parallels and get the two week trial version (if still available) if you need help. It is pretty easy to install, even for a complete novice like me. It is nice to have the option to use windows, since most people and business’ use windows based programs. The camera is a 720 p selfie/web camera and is ok but I expected more from Apple, to be more competitive in terms of the Mac air 2020 camera vs. competitor options. It works well enough but the 720 selfie/web cam is pretty much the only disappointment, aside from needing parallels ($85.00 per year) to run windows. There are supposed free ways to get windows on the Mac 2020 M1 models but I have not tested them and it’s far more involved compared to the ease of downloading and using parallels. Once parallels is installed, you can swipe left or right on the track pad with three fingers and go from Windows 11 desk top right to Mac OS. desk top. Parallels, if you’re not aware, allows you to set up a VM (virtual machine) to run windows on until the developers have written more for apps to run on x86 architecture. Since most intel chips are on x86 frame work but the M1, I believe, is on an x64 framework, hence the need for parallels for now. Hopefully sooner than later I can do away with parallels but for now it’s the price i pay to run and use windows. All in all this thing is very sweet and unless you’re doing a lot of major rendering and editing, there’s no reason in my opinion to buy the MacBook Pro or M1 Max for substantially more money, I think the Mac air M1 has everything and more that the average person needs in a laptop. Seriously, a good windows laptop other than a notebook will run you $600-$1000.00 minimum, so why not get the best laptops made and get the M1 chip to boot , I’d be surprised if it doesn’t do all you need efficiently and then some! Oh and the Touch ID on the top right of the keyboard is pretty slick too, also when you open the lid it wakes or turns on instantly. As I write I keep remembering more and more that it does , a lot of little things, too much to list! Buy it and you won’t be disappointed!

The MacBook Air with M1 Chip is a really good deal at the price provided you are ok with some compromises with the software compatibility including the lack of ability to have windows via bootcamp.
