The maps are so incorrect that they instruct us to make turns and take roads that no longer exist or never did exist. Instructing to turn into homes, for example. We're not even sure we can ever use it.

I am very unhappy about its navigation...I had one in the past, I did not pay attention and bought the same brand which was very bad. The streets which are well known in this area, Magellan does not recognize. It makes me very angry...

    Updated maps with ease!

After reading various reviews of GPS from various manufacturers, all claiming "Lifetime Maps", but many not really providing map updates, I was pleased to update the maps (and software) on my Magellan RM 2230TLM. I have only had the device for 36 hours, but so far I will say that it compares nicely with my older Garmin (without lifetime maps). I was a bit surprised to discover that a newly purchased GPS would have maps that are already two versions behind, and software that is also not the current version. I guess such things happen between when a manufacturer places the items in the boxes, and when consumers make the purchase. It's nice that the updates went so smoothly!

    VERY Slow

I thought this was a great unit because of the size, the free map updates and the traffic updates. Several things disappoint me: until a recent update (I have owned this for 2 years) it told me that I could not drive to certain islands that had causeway bridges, the maps are incorrect sometimes, acquiring a signal can take a minute or more, and entering an address is painfully SLOW - it takes 45-60 seconds to respond to each letter I type. The update process is not intuitive and sometimes fails. I owned a Magellan unit before I bought this one (I wanted something more compact) and was happy with it - the operating system and programming on this one are not up to standard.

This is a nice GPS device I have had in the past few years. It has a wide 4.3 inch screen and is very easy to check road maps without getting distracted from driving. Very user friendly. East to put the addresses. It's light weight and easy to hold on my windshield.

Worked for about a week before locking up

Had this in my car for comparison side-by-side with a Garmin 1390LMT, in the end I went with the Garmin. This GPS did have some nice features though: - Speed warning can be configured to alert after "X" amount of mph over the speed limit (Garmin lights up as soon as you are 1 mph over limit). - Map detail shows more street names on screen than Garmin at equivalent zoom level. - Junction guide popup is helpful showing you which lane(s) to stay on. - Traffic camera alert helpful. - When doing address entry prefer the "city, street name, street number" order instead of Garmin's "city, street number, street name". Here after the street name is entered it only highlights the valid numbers for that particular street (very helpful). - Bell/ding sound just before the turn is helpful. Here are the bads: - Started locking up.... Everytime the unit was powered on again it would not function, the screen was locked at the previous location after the last power down. Have to do a hard reset everytime to get it working again (e.g. hold power button down 4~5 seconds). This was what ultimately made me return the unit. - Lag time.... I would already have made a turn and 2~3 seconds later it would say to turn. This was mostly at the initial power up use, once the unit got warmed up and running it did not happen again. - Traffic maps seemed overly pessimistic compared to Garmin, would show traffic that wasn't really there. - Traffic map zoomed out was difficult to read which direction of freeway had the traffic. Had to zoom in close to see (Garmin shows which direction more clearly). - In non-3D mode I always prefer the 2D-north up compared to 2D-heading up, but this thing after time would always annoyingly change back to 2D-heading up. - No options to replace the signature Magellan voice lady, Garmin offered a few different voice options. I had both older units of a Garmin and Magellan. The older Magellan unit did not have a lot of these issues so I was open to trying out this newer unit with added features. But ultimately it was just up to playing ball. So far I've had very little issues with the Garmin 1390LMT.

I love it, It's small, compact, alot more info in it than my older Magellan. Easy to use, I love this thing. It is on constantly in my car, just in case I need to take a detour because of traffic jams or accidents. It is Awesome!!

I've got to remember that I'm not using the TomTom and I can get better at navigating. It's easier to use and read. My husband wishes it was a man's voice instead of a woman. He says it harder to hear a soft voice than a deeper one.

GPS good, but screen information is too small

This was a good buy from Best Buy, but after getting started with the GPS, we found that the Screen Information was too small to see, so we couldn't tell if we had 31 miles to go, or 3.1 miles... which makes a huge difference. Also, sometimes the directions were off. All in all, I think it's the usual GPS quality, but I returned it because I just need to be able to see screen information, especially when driving alone.

    Nice GPS But...

I liked the GPS but it didn't have a sd card slot and the memory was at 97% so you had no room to update lifetime maps so I returned it. It says its supposed to have a sd slot on the web page ad for Best Buy. If you could expand the memory with a sd card I would of kept it, but I got a prompt return.

It is easy to use & inexpensive. The driving directions are not the best. I tested it several times to locations I am familiar with, and it didn't perform all that great. If you have been accustomed to having more refined GPS systems, then this is not for you. If you're looking for an economy based GPS system, this will get the job done (assuming it is covered in their maps).
