Haven’t really used many other functions. Every so often I have to reset the USB connection because the tv suddenly starts not automatically switching the source to open the Portal when it’s given the voice command. A minor annoyance for the convenience of the Portal.

Had to use an older router of my own that allowed me to use all the apps. I tried the portal large and it had the same issue and was returned. For the money go with the TV. Not many apps but it is nice to keep in touch on the couch and it does track you and is fun to read stories. It won't allow you to snap pics like you phone does in FB chat but all in all I'm satisfied with it.

Portal TV is missing "auto wake up" functionality

Having owned a Portal 10" and knowing how it works, my expectation was similar for the Portal TV. I was wrong. The Portal TV lacks the ability to sense motion and stay awake showing your photos, which is how the Portal 10" works, which continues to show your photos until after the last detected motion + Display On Set time. Yes, all the video chat functionality is there, but 99% of the time our 10" portal is displaying our photos...just by walking in the room until after we go to bed ...then the portal eventually goes to sleep. And it then wakes up in the morning when we walk into the room. The Portal TV will not do this. It must be manually awakened via the remote. At best, the Portal TV photo's display time can be set to 1 hour, then the screen goes black until you again wake it up with the remote. Two days of FB support chats ultimately confirmed this is by design.

Since so many people are on FB and use Messenger, it might be a good option for video chatting with friends and family. It does every thing it claims to do. When I walk around the room the camera automatically zooms out to ensure I remain in the view. My friends say it is such a sharp picture. I recommend this product. The setup took about a half hour with updating.
