Q: do you need to purchase the hdmi cord to hook to smart tv? it states a plug comes with it?
A: Yes, you would need to purchase an HDMI cord.
Q: Can you join a zoom call with portal TV
A: Portal TV does not work with Zoom or Facebook Live yet. The regular Portals do. They say it’s coming though.
A: The portal makes a ringing sound and also lights up. If you say "hey portal answer" it will switch to that HDMI if your tv has HDMI CEC. It will also turn on your tv and select the correct HDMI. When done with call you simply say "hey portal hang up". If you also say "hey portal turn off" it will also turn off your tv. Only issue is it does not change back to the previous input when done with call. You have to manually select the correct input with your tv remote.

A: Yes, you can zoom in on the caller. In fact the Portal will do that for you.
Q: can I watch tv and see the person I am talking too on the tv?
A: Maybe, but it is not a function that is built into the device. You have to connect this to a dedicated HDMI port. Theoretically, if your TV had picture in picture ; you could display two video sources.
