This device gets some negative reviews. However, it has been an absolute blessing during the pandemic lock-down. It allows us to join our children and their families in an intimate, living room setting with a camera that automatically zooms and transitions the field of view. Yes, you can be in video communication using Facetime or Skype, But those are head-and-shoulder shots. This is the entire room. It's a must for big families separated by miles - or pandemics. Worth every penny and set-up is a no-brainer.

This item saved our Christmas! One daughter also has a Portal TV, and the other joined in on her iPhone. I could watch my grandchildren open all their gifts almost as if I were there. There are some glitches on my daughter's end with feedback, but there is probably a fix for that. The story time feature sometimes fades in and out, but my grandson loves it. So, overall this has been great! For people separated from their families, I would truly recommend a Portal TV.

If what you are looking for is an easy solution to do whatsapp/messenger calls via big screen, this is what you should get. That's the exact scenario we had for our toddler to talk to other family members abroad. The camera works great to track the person talking and it zooms in/out automatically as they move around. Otherwise it doesn't do much though, maybe they will add features later on but for now it is a device for a single scenario only and fortunately it does a good job in that.
