This has been so much fun. We got this for Christmas. The games have been great but be careful if you get motion sickness easily. A few minutes in the wrong game knocked me off my feet for an entire day. Also be sure to get the elite head strap it’s rough on hair, and a bit of a pain to adjust.

Better in some ways, worse than others to the Rift

Got tired of waiting for my Rift S to come back from service, saw this, nabbed it. I also really wanted a cordless, self-contained rig for games that are just better with it. Better than Rift S: 1. Image quality is certainly better. Less screen door effect. 2. No cord, no PC required. Turn it on and play. Can connect to your PC wirelessly and play many of your Steam games through the wifi connection. (Some assembly required) 2B: Can install apps like Netflix and Hulu and watch your favorite shows on a "huge screen" from the comfort of your recliner. It's pretty cool. 3. Built in speakers are WAY better than Rift S. I spent hours trying to cobble together proper speakers for the S and eventually broke the headphone jack. Sound is really quite good. Worse than Rift S: 1. Janky head strap. Premium strap an absolute requirement to attain any sort of comfort. Once purchased and installed, it's great and quite comfortable. 2. "Sweet Spot" is smaller. Anything outside that small area becomes increasingly blurry. 3. Manual IPD has only 3 settling which creates more of a binocular image than the S. You can tell you're looking through two different lenses/screens. Very noticable and distracting when playing 1st person games with any sort of fast/large movements. Had to disable the comfort ring (forget what it's called) for movement in Skyrim it was so bad. 4. Cannot play top tier/heavy system requirement games even through the link cable. USB is simply no replacement for a dedicated Display Port. Skyrim was playable but Fallout 4 was not, and these are older titles. No way you could run Cyberpunk (assuming they make it VR) through USB.

Got this for my wife as a Christmas present. She loves it, my daughter tried it and loved it too. They use it mainly for playing, however, not too often. The whole idea behind this is pretty great, however, I can't seem to find a good use for it besides just having it.

Can’t stand Meta, but Quest 2 is a good buy

Parent company aside, the Quest is a solid price per pound VR experience. You are not going to beat it as a stand alone or even paired to a computer on the cost per performance ratio. Cable free beats higher resolution in my book. One star drop for the ridiculous and painful head strap. Just add the cost of an upgrade in your plans because it is bad. I paired it with the elite strap that has the built in battery. That will double your play time between charges. I can play longer than 4 hours, but it is rare. There are other choices in straps, just accept you will likely have to make one. I have the original and there may be those wondering if it is worth the upgrade. I am mixed on that. Some of the better titles do need the Q2, but there is plenty to play on the original. Yes the resolution is better and the batteries in the controllers will last longer. Is it worth the cost to upgrade is really a judgment of what you want to do with it. I don’t like the feel of the new controllers myself, but they are easier on batteries. It is likely more a question of when to upgrade versus if. I’m okay with my choice to upgrade, but I do miss that better feel of the controller design and overall headset comfort of the original.

This thing is great. It is just like having a portable Rift. The screen door effect is gone. The fact that it can run so many titles on it's on is great and to get AAA titles out of it, you can just link it to your PC. I don't have an issue with the IPD. I know on the rift that I had it set to 64-65. On the Quest 2 I have it set to 2, and the is 63 according to the settings. The only thin I can recommend for it is the better head strap, and adjusting the unit up or down on my face to get the sweet spot. It has a huge library already available, and the fact they are adding in life events is the coolest idea ever. especially in the time we are living in. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get into VR, or if you just want to upgrade. And I had zero issue setting it up. But I have used the gen 1 Rift. there is a companion app for it, so you do need a phone. But keep in mind you can show others what you are doing in the Quest 2 with it via video stream. So that is pretty handy.

Now, this is a game changer and if, you don't see the value in having this, just know that you won't be disappointed! I was skeptical at first because I did not research. But, what you don't know is that this VR is the future in keeping your mind wanting to learn and experience new things. The entire family can gain use and knowledge from using this VR. I bought 3 of them for my family!! I am excited to see if, they will be excited as I am from experiencing all the apps that's in their library. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! Takes learning to a whole new level. There is actually a Virtual classroom with a Teacher teaching 4 grade Math. How, many parents want to tackle the way Math is taught today? Got my thumbs up!!!
