I've been wanting an Oculus for a while now specifically to play Beat Saber, so when the Cyber Momday deal hit and I had $100 in points, Easy to set up even for non-gamers. I jumped on it. Love, love, love it.

I bought it for "the house" for Christmas. Had fun doing Beat Saber. Other family members had fun with it also. Looking into getting free games to continue our fun. Very happy with the purchase.

As a console game player (Xbox Series X) VR presents a stunning sense of putting the player INTO the game in a way that 2D gaming will never accomplish.
That said, the Quest 2 (and even computer-tethered VR) rockets players backwards 20 years in terms of game graphics, resolution and game design complexity relative to non-VR gaming. Games are simplistic graphically and once I was beyond the initial wonder at the enormity of the playing environment, I found the gaming mechanics offered little replay value in the titles I tried. The free Resident Evil 4 download tells the story: this is a VR port of a game that came out in 2005.
Download times are long as are installation times. It all feels soooooo. sloooowwwww.
While you no longer need a Facebook account to use the Quest 2, you do need the Meta phone app to open a Meta account. Many content providers want access to your photos, friend lists etc and some programs want to record video and voice as well. So, there’s that whole privacy question. Buyer beware.
There are many VR videos to watch that would be fantastic if it weren't for the long loading times and the poor resolution. Like, “before flat screen TVs” poor resolution. If you’re used to video in 4K VR will be a huge let down.
Then there's the motion sickness ... Ugh.
Add to these negatives the clunkiness of the headset and it becomes clear why VR is still little more than a niche curiosity in the gaming industry. Just as 3D TVs that required special glasses to enjoy were a flop, VR hardware is a major drawback that in its current incarnation is more than the average consumer will want to put up with for any extended period of time. This might explain the number of Quests for sale on various social media market places.
All in all, VR generally and the Quest 2 version of it in particular will likely thrill for the first couple of hours after which it will sit in a closet until company comes over. Just be sure they try it BEFORE they eat! LOL!
