Get immersed into a new reality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, where to begin? VR experience, Mixed Reality experience, graphics, content, games, apps, fit, comfort, etc.? There is just so much to say, positive and not so. One thing is clear though, as a whole, the Meta Quest 3 is just something out of this world! Overall, my experience with the Meta Quest 3 has been amazing (5 star). There are ups and downs, things that could be improved here and there, but undeniably, it is a device that allows you to experience and get immersed into new worlds, new realities if you’d like, just an outstanding and innovative piece of engineering to spend time on. Although what I write in here should be only my opinion, a couple of friends, with whom we’ve spent one night trying the Meta Quest 3, were overly impressed with it, they were in awe riding on the rollercoaster, punching others, saving the house😊from outer space invaders, flying planes, and watching 360 VR videos. Once you immerse yourself in the VR world, the video quality seems to be a little less important (if it was not great to begin with), since at the end you get to believe that you are in that new VR environment, it is just incredible how the brain works. The controllers are very responsive and feel like an extension to your hands, and the feedback (through vibration) makes it feel like you are even more immersed in the virtual world. As a newbie in VR sets, I sometimes got a headache after playing some of the games, so I don’t recommend it for long periods of use (at least at the beginning.) The mixed reality mode, which combines the real world with the VR world, is just something unique; I should say though, in that mode, it still feels like it is a new reality, with some grasps or projections of the old one in it, but a new reality after all. - Pros: VR and mixed reality, great content, responsive, great speakers, and more! - Cons: a little heavy. >> Setup My device came “ready to go”, even the hand controllers had batteries and wrist straps attached (I assume all devices come that way.) The only thing I’d say is to fully charge it and resist the urge to try it upon unboxing it, so you don’t get interrupted in the middle of configuring or initial experiencing. The other thing you’d want to do is to change the original head strap, which besides feeling uncomfortable to wear, looks cheap. If you’ve never worn a VR set like this, just give it a few minutes and you’ll notice the pressure and discomfort on your head while wearing the Quest 3. So, I replaced the original head strap with the Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap (sold separately) that I was provided with. The Quest 3 should come with the Elite Strap by default. I downloaded the Meta Quest App from the Play Store, and configured my Meta account with an email address as opposed to using Facebook. The Meta Quest App can be used to setup the Wi-Fi on the Quest 3. After connecting/pairing the Quest App to the Quest 3, I was able to access its contents and get a live view of the Quest 3 on the phone (cast). The latter was not a pleasant experience as the video feed was very lagging and deficient (and I presumably have very good Wi-Fi and internet speed.) From there on, it was a whole experience, learning how to use the controllers, define boundaries and explore the different applications in this new VR/Mixed-Reality world. >> Fit and comfort Do yourself a favor, spend the extra bucks and switch the default head strap for a better one. The default strap that comes is uncomfortable, and in true honesty, it makes the Quest 3 look cheap. I replaced it with a Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap, and it made a whole world of difference, the device not only fits better, and it is easier to adjust to your head, but it also looks stylish. Two major features to help with comfort and your perfect fit are: - Lens spacing - Eyeglasses and depth adjustment You can easily adjust the view while wearing your glasses, for example. This allows sharing your device with others and easily adjusting it for the best viewing experience. So far, one prominent negative aspect I see is its weight, it feels heavy. Most of the applications and games, if not all, are not likely to be used and played only for a few minutes. For example, games like Population: One extend at least over an hour, and after one hour you can sure feel your neck hurting and feeling sore. It looks like I’d need to work out those neck muscles. >> Audio/Video I didn’t have much hope for this in terms of audio quality, but audio wise, it is superb. The 3D spatial characteristics can be felt. I’ve had no need to use my headphones so far. Even the people near you that might not be in your game become excited or intrigued when they hear some of the louder sounds and look at you moving around like a maniac. Entertainment for them and entertainment for you, fun for everyone. In terms of visual quality, it depends on the content and games and apps, and whether you are in Immersive mode (VR) or mixed reality one. But for the higher quality content, the graphics are very good, the small details, tones, light, all look amazing. I assume there are differences with other VR devices, even with its predecessor Quest 2, but given this is my first device I wouldn’t know. With respect to mixed reality, you can see your surroundings in the “real” world, but everything looks a little grainy and sort of warped; I am not sure if that was done intentionally or there were some technical limitations. You eventually get used to it, though. >> Immersive experience I was reluctant to believe that one could immerse oneself in these virtual worlds only through visual stimuli. Wearing these googles makes you feel you’ve entered a new world, your brain gets used, or adjusts itself, to the new environment as if you were embedded in it. Something I noticed is that some content/apps, especially some of the free games on the web don’t have the best graphics or have poor graphics, once you are in the game’s environment, it feels like you are part of it, you look left, up down, back, and you are in that world. Of course, you cannot run or jump or climb, but the hand controllers act as an extension to your body, and you can mimic some of those things. For example, for climbing, you can press one of the buttons on the controller to grab the rope and then mimic the up and down movement of climbing the rope. You can control things with your hands directly too, but you don’t get the feedback (vibrations) that you get from the controller. Switching from Immersive Mode to Mixed Reality Mode is easy, on the control bar it is available at the touch of a button. I must say, from my experience, even the mixed reality mode feels immersive, there elements in the real world, but they seem grainy projected in the virtual one, leading one to believe being a new virtual world altogether. >> Content/Applications New to this VR and mixed reality world, I was surprised by the content available out there. I have enjoyed some fun videos with YouTube VR 360 videos, played games such as Population: One, browse the internet and played free immersive available there, played flying planes, riding rollercoasters, saving my home from an alien invasion (in mixed reality mode) and many more. Some of the content and games left too much to desire in terms of graphics quality. But, even with poor video/graphics quality, it is interesting how you can immerse yourself in the experience. As an anecdote, we were having some fun with a couple of friends, trying out different games, one of them was on a trial for some game, at some point he forgot he was in the virtual world, he could hear us, but we were not in sight. He got too immersed in the experience and started moving his head around asking where we were. Funny at that time, interesting afterwards, and a little scary later, I would say. There are so many multiple Apps/Games/Titles I could talk about, here are a few: - PC Remote Display. I am currently writing this section in Microsoft Word wearing the Quest 3 using this App. In the default mixed reality mode, the graphics are not that good, but well, the main screen (monitor) where the PC content is displayed, looks good, though. But the “real world” still looks grainy (well that is the nature of this mixed reality mode). Now, when choosing the Immersive Mode, overall graphics experience is enhanced a lot; however, not at par with my 34-inch pair of monitors for the PC content. I can see this Remote Display App as a way to escape reality for a writer or artist seeking out of this world inspiration for their works. As I am writing the review, I feel more focused on my review than before, or perhaps I am just disconnected from “reality”. After my initial doubts, I think this mode will allow me to do better at writing content (I don’t use the AI bots that are trend nowadays.) I would love for multiple screens or monitors, that’d be something killer! Having multiple applications running on its own monitor/window in this new world! Like having multiple monitors! - Meta Quest Browser. This is a must, it allows web surfing as well as access to several titles on the web free of charge; for example, one fun game is Fitn’ Punch XR, to train your muscles while box sparring virtually. - Population: One. This game provides a great example of the capabilities and applicability of the Meta Quest 3. For example, you can climb using ropes. The experience looks almost real, you can mimic grabbing the rope and making the movement up and down. Also, you can mimic loading/reloading/adjusting your weapons and using them similarly like in real life. Just a sample of some of the capabilities. Finally, this is a collaborative game, so the only complaint I had was when others in the game were badmouthing others, so something to take into account in the multiplayer games: the bad actors.

USB-C port issues with these devices!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I purchased this on March 24, 2024. Today is May 10, 2024. Device won’t charge, can’t return it, and Meta won’t admit there’s a USB-C issue with these devices. Many reports online that I wish I’d seen prior to purchasing. I’m glad I at least got the 128Gb so I only wasted $527.47.

Meta Quest 3 Options & opinion.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're going to buy the 3 I recommend going for the 512 instead of the 128.. only 150$ difference for a lot more play & save space. Worth it for my 12 year old either way though of course.

The one
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Meta Quest 3, also known as the Oculus Quest 3, is a popular virtual reality (VR) headset known for its advanced features and immersive experiences. Here's a detailed review:Pros:Wireless Freedom: The Quest 3 is a standalone VR headset, meaning it does not require a PC or console to operate. This wireless design allows for greater freedom of movement and easier setup compared to tethered VR systems.High-Resolution Display: It features a high-resolution display that provides sharp visuals and enhanced clarity, contributing to a more immersive VR experience. This is crucial for VR applications where visual fidelity is important.Powerful Performance: The Quest 3 is equipped with advanced hardware that enables smooth performance and fast loading times, allowing users to enjoy VR games and applications without noticeable lag or delays.Wide Game Library: It supports a diverse library of VR games and experiences available through the Oculus Store and other platforms. This includes both popular titles and indie games, catering to a variety of interests and preferences.Easy Setup and Use: Users appreciate its user-friendly interface and straightforward setup process, which makes it accessible even to those new to VR technology.Comfortable Design: The Quest 3 is designed with comfort in mind, featuring adjustable straps and ergonomic considerations to ensure prolonged use without discomfort.Cons:Battery Life: Like most portable devices, the Quest 3's battery life may be limited, especially during intensive VR sessions. Users may need to take breaks for recharging.Limited Graphics Compared to PC VR: While impressive for a standalone device, the graphics and processing capabilities of the Quest 3 may not match those of high-end PC VR systems, which could be a consideration for VR enthusiasts seeking the best possible visual fidelity.Potential for Motion Sickness: VR experiences can cause motion sickness in some users, especially during fast-paced games or applications with intense movement. This can vary depending on individual sensitivity and the content being experienced.Overall, the Meta Quest 3 is highly regarded for its standalone functionality, impressive performance, and broad range of available content. It's a great choice for both newcomers to VR and experienced users looking for a versatile and immersive virtual reality experience.

Great Affordable VR Headset
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first experience with VR, so naturally I was excited to try the Meta Quest 3. Setup and fit Setup and account creation was straightforward, so I will skip this topic. I have heard multiple reports of the headband putting a lot of pressure on the forehead and on the top of the ears, but I did not have these issues. I thought the headset was pretty comfortable and was easy to adjust, but I had a hard time getting a good fit for my 10-year-old son. Images/mixed reality I was amazed by the realistic images in games such as First Encounters, Fruit Ninja 2 and Meta Horizon Worlds. As for the passthrough feature, the real-life image was not perfect, but it was pretty amazing for this price point. I would like to commend Meta for adding a quick 2 taps on the side of the headset activate this feature. The panels used in the headset are LED, but I felt the blacks were dark enough to satisfy my needs. Controls I was impressed with the controller’s accuracy. They were very responsive and did not lag behind any of my movements. I even liked how well the hand tracking works (without using the controllers), but there was a learning curve to make it work effectively. Battery life According to Meta, the battery life can last from about 1.5 up to 2.9 hours depending on the activity. I was not able to get over 2 hours of use with a mix of activities, which included casting to my phone. This is not an unreasonable amount of time, but I was hoping for about 2.5 hours. GB size consideration There are only two sizes offered, 128 GB and 512GB, with about 18 GB already used by the system software. Games can range from less than 1 GB, but many are 6 to 12 GB plus in size. So, if you choose to get the 128 GB version, plan to only store about 10 to 20 games at a time. Pros Great graphics Responsive to movements Hand tracking Mixed reality and Passthrough Cons Battery less than 2 hours of real-time use 128GB may not be enough I would definitely recommend this Meta Quest 3 VR headset. The graphics are amazing, the responsiveness is perfect, and to be ability to quickly “see” your surroundings without removing the headset makes it the perfect VR headset. The biggest drawback is for the 128 GB version since space will likely become a factor due to increasing game sizes.

A Game-Changer in Virtual Reality!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got my hands on the Meta Quest 3, and I have to say, it has completely transformed my VR experience! From the moment I unboxed it, I was impressed by its sleek design and lightweight feel, making it incredibly comfortable to wear for extended periods. The visuals are stunning! The clarity and color accuracy are a significant upgrade from previous models, allowing me to immerse myself fully in various virtual worlds. Whether I’m exploring fantastical landscapes or engaging in fast-paced action games, the graphics are vibrant and crisp, making everything feel incredibly lifelike. The performance is top-notch. The processing power is evident in the smooth frame rates and quick load times. I’ve played several titles without any lag, and the responsiveness of the controllers is fantastic. The haptic feedback adds an extra layer of immersion, making every interaction feel real and engaging. One of my favorite features is the improved passthrough technology. It allows me to seamlessly transition between the virtual and real worlds, which is perfect for those moments when I need to check my surroundings without taking off the headset. This feature makes it more versatile and user-friendly, especially for those new to VR. The library of games and experiences available for the Meta Quest 3 is impressive. There’s something for everyone, from action-packed adventures to relaxing exploration games. I’ve spent hours getting lost in new worlds, and I can’t wait to see what new content will be released. Overall, the Meta Quest 3 is a remarkable device that brings virtual reality to the next level. It’s perfect for both seasoned VR enthusiasts and newcomers alike. If you’re looking for an immersive and exciting VR experience, I highly recommend the Meta Quest 3! It’s worth every penny!

Best headset I have ever owned.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best headset I've ever owned, but does have a few issues. Pros: 1. Excellent motion handling 2. Zero screen door effect 3. Compatible with every game and app I've used with zero bugs 4. Comfortable, minus the stock strap. 5. No base stations or additional equipment needed for full utilization 6. Great UI 7. Incredibly clear and vibrant visuals! 8. Seamlessly integrated hand tracking and motion tracking Cons: 1. This is a big one they don't tell you, YOU CANNOT FULLY CHARGE WHILE GAMING! Yes, you read that right, you cannot input enough current into this headset while gaming to keep it charged without damaging the battery and over-heating other parts. So you can only play until the battery dies, as the rated current just slows down the discharge rate, not stop it. I don't ever plan on being mobile with it, so I just purchased an aftermarket cable that allows it to link directly to PC for best performance, and allows it to charge fully as well, only cost about $20 on Amazon, but this voids the warranty so...do so at your own risk. 2. Outrageously priced accessories, like $80 for a link cable... 3. Lenses fog quickly as there isn't much ventilation in there 4. Pass-through is nauseating without adequate light 5. Stock headstrap is uncomfortable, but you can buy a very nice and far more comfortable one off Amazon for around $30 6. 128Gb is not nearly enough space as games can exceed 50gb, so for space saving and better performance, I recommend downloading the games on your PC and using the link cable from there, it actually does provide better visuals and performance. 7. The link function, whether wired or wireless, needed somewhat complicated modifications to the operating parameters to function at its best. If you follow some of the instructions you can find online about modifying parameters and buy the aftermarket accessories for comfort, it is an outstanding headset, I fully recommend!

Fantastic Experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Meta - Quest 3 – 128 GB - White My Overall Impression This is my first attempt using VR, and I am quite impressed. I may actually like this better than my console games. The Meta Quest 3 is quite impressive. What Worked Well *Setup – The setup wasn’t too difficult. Charge for an hour or so (to get to a green light). Install the Meta Quest app on the phone. Update the headset to get the best start. I also upgraded the head strap to the Elite Strap since it is more comfortable than the standard strap. *Audio – Audio in the headset sounds great. Uses open air audio, so you don’t have to use an ear bud/headphone. Earbuds are an aftermarket option if you are interested in that. My wife says that she can hear the headset while being in the same room, so that’s something to consider if you are sharing an area with someone else. *Immersive Video – The immersive video was almost mind boggling. Clear images that surrounded you in the video. Lots of free content like nature, travel, cartoons, horror, flying, concerts, and sports. Viewing was a powerful experience. So detailed that I could see the individual tattoos on Macklemore while he was performing a concert. Made me uncomfortable watching sharks swim around me in the underwater video. The cliff climbing video made me want to hold onto the couch. The airplane flight video actually made me nauseous like I really rode in the plane. *Immersive Gaming – The mixed reality and immersive gaming had me almost immediately. First Encounters is my favorite so far. It’s a free mixed-reality game where aliens land in your room and you have to shoot them before they overtake you. The space ship landed on my couch and the aliens popped out of the walls and ceilings. I was running around the room trying to get the aliens that crawled behind and under my couch. Really fun, interactive game. Meta Horizons is another gaming and social app. I have enjoyed the mini-games there so far. *Social Content – It’s Meta, so of course there’s social content with this VR headset. Can connect with friends, connect with other Meta related apps, message each other, play games, follow others and have followers, interact in Meta Horizons, and watch reels. Reels can be opened in a separate larger screen. The separate screen looks about 12 feet tall in my living room. *Multiple Apps – There’s a lot of apps to choose from. Some of it is free, but a lot of it is for purchase. Many of the games have trials, but the trials only last for a very limited amount of time – like 20 minutes of play. That’s not really long enough for me to get used to controls and see if I actually like something, but that’s more of an app store issue. I’m mostly interested in the games, but there are some productivity and wellness apps too. What Could Have Been Better *Hand Controls – Using your hands to control the VR is pretty difficult. I’m sure that I’ll get better as I use the headset more, but the hand gestures aren’t very intuitive and the headset doesn’t always pick up the hand gestures. *Main Home Screen Moves – The main control screen keeps relocating in between apps. I’ll run a game, and when I get out, the main screen will sometimes be behind me or under my seat. I have to pull the screen “out of my couch” and place it back in front of me. Not sure why this glitch happens. *Passthrough Vision is Grainy – When using the passthrough vision (during mixed reality) the picture is very grainy – to the point that I can see a person, but possibly not know who it is. I can’t read my phone. The television picture is really distorted. When I looked this up, people placed the blame on lighting. I tried a well-lit room, and still had some of the same issues. I plan to follow-up on this to make sure that I don’t have a bad headset. *Battery – I get less than 3 hours of usable time with a full charge. If you are gaming or have friends over sharing the device, this is pretty short. I would like to see the battery life extended or have an alternative way to power the headset. *Storage Memory – I have the 128GB version. If you do much gaming, I could see the memory filling up quickly here. Something to consider since they do sell a 512GB version as well. Final Conclusion I am giving the Meta Quest 3 5 stars. It’s not perfect, but what I have experienced so far has been really great. I want to try more games and see more immersive content. This thing is a blast.
