Expensive, but worth the upgrade.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoy the clarity over the Quest 2, which I own. It is comfortable, but do not like the head strap adjustment. The pancake lenses provide a wide foiled of view and bright, brilliant picture. The controllers are light and smooth to use. Yes it is expensive, but to me, it was worth the upgrade.

Quest 3 is a good upgrade.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The oculus overall is a great product with great specifications. (in comparison to the previous module). The screen looks better, feels lighter, controllers feel comfortable, higher refresh rate. The two issues I do have with the quest may be a major issue with most. The issues I deal with are shorter battery life in comparison to the previous model, and the headset straps don’t feel comfortable.

Quest 3 better than 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Better than Quest 2. Slightly lighter, improved room view camera (it’s in color and not as grainy as the quest 2), faster game loading for some games, faster restart time, seems to be brighter and slightly more colorful. The lame stuff about quest 3 is the battery life for the headset is nonexistent! The mocking tone that lets you know the battery is about to die is annoying, it sounds like it says “boo boo” which the battery life indeed is “boo boo” “hiss hiss” lol The controller life sucks too, seems to drain it faster than the quest 2. My personal opinion on the ringless controller is, “ouch my dang fingers keep getting smashed!” *oops* lol Overall I would recommend the headset.

I both love and dislike it at times
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should preface this by saying that the Meta Quest 3 is my first experience with VR headsets and I have only used it in a solo setting. I have been curious about VR headsets since they were introduced, having personally worked at Cybermind in the early 90s. Cybermind was a virtual reality gaming company that had arcade locations in a few malls around the country. Customers could strap on a headset or climb into a sit-down machine to play early stage VR games. The company was founded in 1991 and went bankrupt in 1997. Cybermind's VR games were ahead of their time, but the technology was not yet ready for mass adoption. The company's failure was a setback for the VR industry, but it paved the way for future VR companies like Oculus. To put it bluntly, this is far more intense and superior to anything else I have ever experienced, including Cybermind. Is it mind blowing? Well, some of it is pretty awesome, but some of it still feels primitive to me. When I put this headset on and dive in, there are areas that are really cool, but some that have me scratching my head at times. Let's start with the actual interface and what it feels like for a newb. I really like how easy it was to get up and running. From creating / mapping a safe area to play in, to going through the helpful tutorials, to the virtual room spaces, and the really cool floating dashboard, it made me giggle more than once in delight. I have not had it long enough to comment on every feature, or app that is available for use, because there is just so much you can do with this thing. I have spent most of my time trying games, because that’s why most people have these in the first place right? Sure, you can watch movies and browse online, but I don’t feel like it looks good enough to do that over using my phone, tablet, TV, or computer. For me personally, gaming is why I wanted it and this is where some of my dislike comes into play. Having version three, I figured that the graphics would be good enough by now to keep me immersed and interested more than I actually am at times. Sure, some games look better than others, but overall, I still feel like I am playing games from the late 90s most of the time graphics wise. Now it’s not all bad, but I have played games that are some of the highest rated, with the most reviews, and still feel like they are just too clunky (control wise), and pixelated for my taste. I guess that’s what I get for being used to gaming with super sharp gaming monitors, PC’s and consoles. Will it get there? I do believe it will one day, but I am honestly shocked that it isn’t more realistic at this point. To me, VR gaming is moving too slowly in the graphics department. As stated before, some games look way better than others, so it really depends on the developer you choose as to the experience you will get. Also, watching YouTube video demos of VR games online, actually looks worse that it does inside the headset more often than not. Just an observation I have made by watching a lot of them recently. Where I think this currently shines is with Passthrough gaming. The first time I tried “First Encounters” was just so cool. The graphics on this look better than some of the higher rated games I have tried so far. The sound effects and gameplay are truly a crazy experience. Give this one a try as soon as you get all situated. Passthrough is a feature that I can see being a huge selling point for VR headsets moving forward. That said, to truly enjoy passthrough, you will need good lighting for your surroundings. If you are playing in low light, you can expect there to be some warping and quite a bit of noise in your environment. It almost reminds me of seeing heat rising off of pavement. I tend to play at night in a pretty dark room, so I can’t read my phone or smartwatch very easily at all. With a bright room, this isn’t an issue and the surroundings look much more clear. The floating dashboard is really cool and looks great. You can move it around by selecting the edge of the screen with your remote to drag it around and place it wherever you want in your room. This is where you select what you want to play, your settings, etc. It’s really fun seeing this floating in your room and reminds me of some futuristic movies I have watched in the past such as Minority Report. If you wear prescription glasses, the headset can accommodate them, but if your glasses are large framed, you may have trouble fitting them inside. That said, my glasses are relatively small. They fit inside the headset pretty easily, but I do have to clean them in-between gaming sessions, as they sometimes get smashed into my face by moving around so much making them get oily while playing. One major area that can be improved in future versions of VR goggles would be to have a better diopter system in place. This would allow users to effectively focus the lenses to their eyesight, so there would be no need to wear glasses at all. This feature is already available on some drones that I have used, so it would be a logical addition to VR goggles. It would make VR goggles more comfortable and accessible to a wider range of people. I simply feel like the goggles aren’t adjustable enough to adapt to everyone's eyesight and produce a perfectly sharp image for everyone without glasses or contacts depending on the level of prescription you personally need. You can adjust the depth and width to a certain extent, and while it gets close for me, I still feel like it looks better if I am wearing my glasses. The headset sounds really good. Not as good as wearing dedicated headphones, but still really good clear sound quality, which is nice. The remotes have been revamped for this version and appear to be much smaller and lighter than the previous Oculus versions. Each remote only requires a single AA battery and I have found them to be extremely efficient and last a really long time. The headset is rated to last two hours on a full charge, which honestly is enough time for me and my playing style. Any more than two hours inside this headset might be a bit much for most casual gamers. I am quite disappointed that the bundled game Asgard's Wrath 2 is not available at the time of launch. Needless to say, I was very much looking forward to playing it first. This forced me to browse the Meta store games and reviews in search of a game that I actually wanted to pay for to try out the system. There are demos of some games available, but more often than not, most games do not offer a demo version, which I think is a big miss for most developers. I think that offering a demo version would actually be beneficial to them in the long run. It would allow potential customers to try out the game before they buy it, which would increase the chances of people actually purchasing and enjoying the game. Additionally, it would give developers valuable feedback on how to improve their games. I hope that more (all) developers will start offering demo versions of their VR games in the future. Even if it is a single level, or time based. It would be a win-win for both developers and consumers. VR headsets can be disorienting at first, especially for people who are not used to them, like me. The feeling of being in a different world can be overwhelming, and it can take some time to get used to the controls and how to move around inside the virtual worlds that these games present. As an avid gamer, I have found that it takes me longer than expected to feel totally comfortable with the gameplay and controls inside VR worlds. This is because I am used to having complete control over my surroundings, and VR can sometimes feel like I am not in control. However, once I get used to the feeling of being in a VR world, I find that it is an incredibly immersive and enjoyable experience. I haven’t broken anything in my game room yet! Since I have been so wrapped up into playing games, I haven’t had the chance to try using this for more fitness oriented apps and games. I am putting that high on my list to try soon, as I think that will be a really fun and unique way to get much needed exercise. In conclusion, there is a lot to like about the Meta Quest 3, but there is also a learning curve as with most technology. There is room for plenty of improvement and I hope that happens by way of firmware updates from both Meta and the developers of the games and apps. I would recommend trying to find one in a store to demo if possible to see if it is right for you. As stated before, there are so many things you can do inside this headset, that I am pretty sure most anyone will have fun with it.

Quest 3 is worth the upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Quest 3 improves on the Quest 2 in everyway. It has a higher resolution display (you can clearly see it's much sharper than Quest 2), less bulky design (the pancake lens save bunch of space and weight), and a faster professor (interface seems snappier). The passthrough is much better, which its color pass-through. The Quest 3 is probably the best VR headset by far for the money. --- Get $30 in Meta Quest Store Credit (USA) on your new Quest 3 - Use my referral link BEFORE you activate! https://www.meta.com/referrals/link/mudkiller

Real Life, Fantasy, and...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As my first full VR headset, I do not know what to expect. Adjusting the strap is straightforward and I managed to get a snug fit. However, as I wear glasses for a clearer view of the display, fitting the headset with glasses on becomes a hit-or-miss endeavor. Thankfully I have an old pair on hand that can fit with it. The headset can be adjusted to accommodate glasses and it’s a nice touch this is included. Software setup is straightforward and guides you easily through the process. The VR and MR (Mixed Reality) experiences are interesting and new to me. The virtual visuals are clear and the audio is acceptable. The experience is quite wild and immersive. And while it is entertaining and fun to tinker in either mode, trying to find something new is a bit of a challenge. VR in general is such a niche market and trying to find new apps/games that are not trial-based is difficult. In the end, I tried out Moss and Puzzling Places. I also installed Supernatural which is an exercise-type app but it pestered me to enter payment info, which I am not going to do during a review run. Playing Moss in VR is a lot of fun with the limited time I had. The visuals are beautiful and the character design is very cute. I’m willing to say that this game is a must-have to really enjoy VR in general. For Puzzling Places, I find that it’s an excellent 3D puzzle game and is a good example of using the controller to manipulate the piece. In fact, I ran out of time on the trial since I enjoy taking my time to figure out puzzles. Interacting with the user interface is straightforward with the controller. Using hand tracking is a nice feature for when you need simple controls, especially when the controller is either not in reach or is out of battery power. In MR mode, the interface is superimposed over the reality captured from the camera. The visual captured by the camera didn’t look all that good to me. I do not know if this is normal or if this is due to lack of lighting. But it is passable in order to see your surroundings if you need to walk around the room. In the end, I’m satisfied with what the Quest 3 has to offer. I’m unsure about committing to buying some of the titles that caught my interest. And the price can surely put some people off who want to try out VR. If you know someone who has a stand-alone VR headset, you can try that out before committing. Otherwise, I still feel VR is a niche market for those who can afford it. The lack of totally free games or apps (or perhaps the lack of finding one) also does not help its case. If you can afford it and have experienced VR in the past, I say it’s a good purchase. But if you’re new and considering getting into VR, I suggest holding off until you give it a trial run via a friend or a demo station (if there is one around at all). The Good: immersive, clear graphics, mixed reality to see your surroundings, no tethered cables The Bad: stand-alone VR equates to limited computing/graphics power The Ugly: accidents waiting to happen when someone walks into the room while you’re in VR mode Verdict: Buy if you can afford it and you know what you’re getting into, otherwise skip

Amazing, but still needs a little work.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The graphics are amazing The mixed realities is sensational. The weight, fit and comfort are also great. That being said, it has a lot of work to go. Several games don't fully load (in their defense, they say they will 'eventually' when the app becomes 'compliant'). This is frustrating because these games cost over $30. Also, I have had to factory reset twice as there are times when NO games load. The color passthrough is awesome. You can move around without banging into anything. Is it worth it? HECK YEAH! I will stand behind Quest. It's a fabulous escape to this turbulent time we live in.

Quest 3 review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The slim front makes comfortability in long game sessions extremely noticeable, and the new lenses make finding the sweet spot extremely easy. The controllers are definitely an improvement over the quest 2 and have a quest pro feel to them. Only down side is once again the default strap is not comfortable over a long game session and should be replaced with a third party company like bobovr

Top quality wireless VR
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Quest 3 is an amazing VR setup. I've tried several other VR systems at friends houses but due to reasons, never bought one. Definitely take your time to set up and do it right, you'll save yourself aggravation. Depending on your familiarity, expect up to 3 hours to fully get set up-create an account, update software, prepare your space, etc. On a full charge, the Quest 3 gets about 2 hours of game time. Depending on the game and use, you might get up to 2 1/2 hours. The video is amazing, not quite 4k but close. Definitely the best of the VR systems I've tried. There is also the Mixed reality where using the external cameras, you can see the space you're actually in and move around without bumping into stuff. Games are plentiful, many are free. A couple of downsides. The head strap isn't comfortable and I found it hard to adjust. The fix is upgrading to the Quest 3 Elite strap. Makes a world of difference. The Quest 3 is not comfortable for glasses wearers - At least not for me. I found it difficult to find the visual sweet spot while wearing my glasses. Without my glasses there was not enough adjustment to get me to see clearly (I do have a bad astigmatism, need progressive lenses and in general have very poor eyesight, YMMV) With glasses on and sweet spot finally dialed in, it took a while to not focus on the discomforting pressure on my glasses. Better glasses channels would be nice. The face cover is pliable and does conform to a non glasses face well. If not for the comfort factor with glasses, this would be 5 stars.

So cool!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Quest 3 is our first dive into the VR world, and for my spouse, almost a literal dive. I can’t speak on the specifications as I don’t have any experience or knowledge about how it compares to other sets, but this thing is unreal! Setup was easy enough; the app helped streamline this process well. Navigating took a bit to get used to, but we acclimated well within half an hour of exploring around. Graphics were dependent on the game or video we watched, but for a first time VR family, it was out of this world cool. The pass through feature is fantastic, but the quality of it left me wanting more; simply grainy and reminiscent of an early 2000s digital camera. My oldest mentioned it was weird to play First Encounters (which is preloaded) due to how vivid the game itself was, but the view of our home getting beat up looked “ancient”. I’m sure future generations will improve, but it’s just okay right now. The catalog of games is impressive considering just a few years ago it was almost bare, which is the main reason we never pulled the trigger on any VR headsets. We’ve downloaded a few and have been impressed thoroughly. Beatsaber is a winner, but be careful, not everyone is a content creator that can dance while blocks are flying at you AND keep their balance. Overall, we’re very happy with the Quest 3. Is it perfect? No, but as a first time headset owner, it’s sick. As a parent, the awe from the kids was worth it alone.

The New Best Price for Performance Headset
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Significant improvement over the Quest 2 in almost every way. The higher resolution and framerate is dearly appreciated, and having a wheel to configure distance between the lenses is so much better than the configuration before. Hand tracking works surprisingly well, I recommend allowing Meta to track your hand tracking data because it really has gotten better over time, even in just a couple of weeks. UI and UX still leave something to be desired, menus are messy and cluttered, the home bar is not very customizable or convenient, all apps regardless if they are deleted or demos for apps you purchased remain in your library as clutter. Overall I have been very much enjoying the Quest 3, and most of my problems with it are software related issues that hopefully can be fixed down the line.

Amazing upgrade from Quest 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got my hands on the new Meta Quest 3, and all I can say is wow! The headset takes everything I loved about the Oculus Quest 2 and amps it up a few notches. The improved mixed reality features are absolutely stunning, allowing me to truly immerse myself in the virtual world. On top of that, they've upgraded the hardware to provide an even smoother experience. And then there's the enhanced visual and audio quality – 30% improvement in resolution and 40% louder audio – which make this headset stand out from all the rest. Finally, I'm amazed at how well it handles mixed reality interactions – like playing a piano on my coffee table – and improves upon its predecessor in every way imaginable.

Glasses or Zenni Lenses?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for folks who wear glasses and wonder how well the Quest 3 works with them, or if they will need the Zenni lenses. First, they work with my glasses fine, but the Zenni lenses work very well, too. Are they better than using the Quest 3 with glasses? Read on! I got the Zenni's even though the Quest 3 fit over my glasses fine, just to have the option and for comparison. They arrived fairly quickly, well packaged and the prescription was spot on. I've used them for the past few weeks without any issues. I did have to re-adjust the fit of the Quest 3 to be looking through the lenses at the best angle, distance and eye width. It's like adjusting a new pair of glasses to your face. Once fit properly, it was smooth sailing. If you wear glasses, and spending $50 doesn't bother you, I would definitely get them to see if they work better or more conveniently than over glasses. Now, are they better than glasses? The Quest 3 fit over my glasses fine, which was a big change from the Quest 2 which fit terribly and lenses were a necessity. I didn't even need to adjust the Quest 3 outward to fit my glasses, so the FOV was fine. The differences in use were somewhat subtle. (1) Since the glasses were on my face, the fit tolerance of the Quest 3 was broader. It could sit a little higher, lower, or at a slight angle to my face and I still saw fine. The pupil distance didn't seem to matter as much for me - anything from 60-63 worked fine. With the Zenni lenses, the Quest is like a pair of glasses - the exact fit matters and I had to dial in the fit on the Quest and the inter-pupil distance exactly for a clear view and minimal eye fatigue. (2) FOV is subtly different. The Zenni lenses effectively sit a bit further from my face than a pair of glasses, which seems to slightly shrink the image the eye sees. Not enough that I cared, but it noticeable if you swap back and forth. The effect for you will depend on your own glasses fit vs the Zenni's. (3) For short sessions, or any time you are taking the Quest 3 on and off often, glasses are more convenient since you don't have to find and put them back on your face. Obviously, if you are sharing the Quest 3, glasses are easier, as well. Bottom line: If you have any issues with using the Quest 3 with your glasses, get the Zenni's. If they work fine with your glasses, it might be a toss up, but I find it is a nice option and the lenses have pretty much stayed on my Quest 3 permanently.
