Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the product's strong overall performance and beautiful graphics, with many also praising its comfort, good VR capabilities, and impressive mixed reality features. They appreciate its good resolution and relatively lightweight design. However, a significant point of feedback is the battery life, which customers feel could be better. Additionally, some users suggest improvements to the head strap.

Game-Changing Upgrades with Room for Improvement!

For the Quest 3, Meta has made some significant upgrades, such as reducing the weight, introducing new pancake lenses that are much sharper and higher in resolution, and including an improved processor that is faster. Additionally, the Quest 3 features a more powerful GPU for better graphics. Battery life remains about the same, lasting 2–3 hours depending on usage. If you’re debating whether it’s worth upgrading from a Quest 2 or choosing it over the Quest 3S, I’d say that if you’re an active VR user who enjoys their headset, the answer is yes—and here’s why. Right away, I noticed how much sharper the image was, no matter how the headset was positioned on my face. The previous lenses tended to blur if you looked away from the center, but thankfully, the Quest 3’s upgraded lenses eliminate this issue. Unfortunately, these new lenses are exclusive to the Quest 3. If you were okay with the lenses on the Quest 2, the Quest 3S could be a solid alternative. The higher resolution, combined with the 120Hz refresh rate, creates a buttery-smooth picture that reduces eye fatigue. Beyond the improved image quality, the performance difference is night and day. Gone is the occasional lag that would sometimes occur, even while navigating the UI. The web browser also benefits from this added power, no longer freezing up when loading websites with many ads. Games take full advantage of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, with graphics-intensive titles now maintaining a steady frame rate. This results in smoother gameplay and a more enjoyable experience overall, especially with the addition of the Batman game—an absolutely awesome experience that’s a must-play for fans of the series. Downsides • Battery Life: Battery life remains short. If you’re just watching videos, you might get close to 3 hours, but for games like Batman, expect closer to half of that. • Comfort: While adjustments to the strap make it easier to use and an improvement over the Quest 2, the headset is still top-heavy. For those who found the Quest 2 uncomfortable, the Quest 3 will likely feel similar. During a 2-hour session, I found myself taking it off several times to readjust for comfort. Personally, the pressure on the sides of my head after about an hour and a half becomes noticeable. There’s an additional strap available for purchase that might help with this. • Eyeglass Friendliness: It’s still not very eyeglass-friendly. I’ve read reports of users scratching the lenses while wearing glasses. There’s an accessory on Amazon that prevents glasses from making contact with the lenses, which may be worth considering. Thankfully, my vision isn’t too bad yet, so I mostly use the headset without glasses. Other Improvements • Audio: The built-in speakers have been improved, directing sound more effectively to your ears. You no longer need to max out the volume to hear clearly. With Bluetooth support, I found that wireless earbuds provided a more immersive experience. • External Cameras: The external cameras are significantly better, now supporting color passthrough mode. This makes it easier to read text on your phone or interact with your surroundings. • Controllers: The controllers feel more precise, even without the rings they used to have. However, in a completely dark room, the Quest 3 struggles to detect them when first powering on or after a break. I’ve had to use my phone as a flashlight so the headset could locate the controllers. This was especially noticeable when using the headset for stationary activities like watching YouTube or Netflix in bed. Final Thoughts Ultimately, there are two ways to approach this upgrade. If you were satisfied with the Quest 2 but just wished for better performance and didn’t mind the fisheye lenses, the Quest 3S is an excellent option. It provides all the performance improvements and camera upgrades from the Quest 3, but without the new pancake lenses. However, if the fisheye lenses were a deal-breaker and you’re looking for a more polished VR experience, the Quest 3 might be the solution you’ve been waiting for. For me, the Quest 2 saw minimal use due to its performance limitations and the eye fatigue caused by its lenses. The Quest 3 addresses these issues effectively. Now, Meta just needs to focus on making the headset more comfortable to wear and improving battery life.

Not to waste any time, the mixed reality feature is a hit or miss, when it works there are glitches. When it doesn’t work it’s nearly impossible to correct, this feature needs a lot of work and just doesn’t seem worth the $500 price tag. The upgrade in resolution and fidelity also don’t seem too much of a big jump from the previous quest headset. If you already own a quest 2, you should probably just stick to that.

Had to get a new Meta Quest 3 because my previous one was stolen. The one star is not for the Headset itself. the headset is great. the one star is for Best Buy who refused to help me do anything about my other headset which is gone and i have to still make payments on it, despite it no longer existing.
