The greatest game ever; graphics, ai, gameplay, sound, etc. This is a must have for any PS3 owner. I have played every MGS in the series, from PS1 to PS3...and this one takes the cake. It wraps up the entire story, its so great it makes you wish that this wasnt the end, and there would be a 5th installment in the series. This game alone crushes the 360 and its flagship Halo.

At times this game reminded me of one of my all time favorite shooters - Siphon Filter. The amount of weapons is amazing and the customizations are crazy.
The game controls are excellent and very responsive. Easily and smoothly transition from crouch, standing, walking, and running. Not all games controls are this smooth and this is a standout. Engaging in hand to hand attacks is a bit tricky and you can miss some button/stick moves and find yourself in a bad situation. The enemy AI is also quite good. Not everyone is shoot first ask questions later, so even when you are spotted you can often slip away.
I really enjoyed the battles with military units. Boss battles, not so much.
I guess I would be better off with COD or some more purely military game, although I do enjoy Killzone 2.
I am not a fan of the Metal Gear universe or the story. I have two of the titles and honestly, I find the whole send one guy in to do the job of a special forces squad/or larger unit a bit tedius. I find the story and bizarre and unexplained war economy a bit much to swallow. The Government conspiricy and nano-technology were just too much. So from that aspect I didn't really care for the game all that much.
I thought it hilarious that you can go shopping for new guns right in the middle of a battle. Hey I know it is meant to be a game and not a combat simulation, but run out of RPG's, go shopping and buy more, excellent. This game also uses the infinite Santa Claus Sack concept. You can have access to just about anything you have ever picked up in the game in that thing.
Honestly I would not have bought this game if it hadn't come bundled with my PS3.
However I do recognize that some people would really enjoy this game and I say to each his own. If you like the MG story then this is probably a fantastic game. It is much better than the other title I owned (I think it was Sons of Liberty or something like that). At least in this title you start out with guns and you can do generally whatever you want.
So I am going to recommend it, but if you are not 100% sold on MG concepts/storyline and are choosing between the Resistence Games or Killzone 2, skip this one IMHO.

MGS4 is a great game for the PS3 and there are many reasons why you should buy it. First, of all the graphics and sound fantastic. It is very fun to play this game on a big tv. Many people said that the cutscenes are very long and boring, and they are long but not boring, but without them this game wouldn't make sense. If you have a PS3 you must buy this game.

This is truly one of the most greatest games out there, It really shows off everything Hideo Kojimas can do. I love the metal gear series. I have them all, and this is one you can not miss. Truly the Graphics, the story, the variety of ways you can play the game, just pull you in. I'm not joking if you see this game, anywhere buy it, best 60 bucks you'll use.

This might just be my favorite game of all time! I love the game play, the storyline is engaging, and the game is simply beautiful in both graphics and audio! I played this game for hours on end because I simply couldn't put down the controller! Some people complained about the cut scene, which are a little long, but I loved how much they added to the storyline. If you own a PS3 system this is a must own game!

Metal Gear Solids never fail to have the best story line of any war game out there. Guns of the Patriots lives up to the reputation again. If you are looking for an unorthodox war game (other than COD, Medal of Honor, SOCOM, etc) Metal Gear Solid is perfect. I also think it has the best graphics of any PS3 game. Downsides are a pretty poor online play feature, and a fairly short gameplay length.

This is a great game it has a lot of variety and you can do a lot stuff such as using an INTERESTING magazine to trick your enemies and kill them. This game well be really great because of the great story that has been continued on for generations by Hideo Kojima the creater of the Metal Gear Solid Saga. I have personally tested the beta and it was great, the controls, look, and feel are all the reasons why it is going to be great!

STORYLINE - the movie-quality story is as great as the previous Metal Gear Solid series -- and with this ending, there's twist after twist.
GRAPHICS / SOUNDS - still the best graphics combined with great sound effects.
METAL GEAR ONLINE - free online multiplayer (TPS with a hint of FPS).
ET CETERA - just get the game and see for yourself.

A great game! The storyline is solid and answers most questions to previous Metal Gear games! If you're up for it, watch the cutscenes--B-E-A-utiful--if you have the time. Finishing this game can range from 8-38 hours, depending on if you watch the cutscenes or not. Overall, this is one of the best games out there for the PS3.

I started playing this game about a week and a half ago and continue to have a hard time putting my controller down to take a break. It starts out telling you that it has to load for 3 minutes (no big deal really). It's well worth the wait. If you're familiar with this franchise, you'll know there's plenty of story involved and this is no different. Once story-mode is finish though, you have plenty of time to play the game and well, fail a few times to get the hang of it.
The video quality is so great that there are times where I find myself looking at the TV real close to see if I can see any pixelation. Plus they do mix in a couple of actual video scenes.
Controls are quite easy to get used to after about an hour of playing or so. The game also continuously throws in new items and weapons you can pick up. You can also customize your weapons to add a grenade launcher to the M4 or the like.
My ONLY minor complaint was somewhere in the 2nd Act, it had a few quick motion scenes and cut-scenes to go through and therefore you were going through some additional load screens here and there. Also, the beginning of every Act takes that 3 minutes to load before continuing. But the Acts took me about 5 hours or longer to complete between playtime and cutting to storyline.
Without giving much else away, I just want it to be known that I highly recommend this game and would behoove everyone to give it a shot. I couldn't imagine someone wanting to take this back to the store. Hope you all enjoy.

What a Way to End the Saga

This game was the only reason why I decided to pre-order the MGS4 Bundle before the release date, and I've finally decided to write a review about it.
In my opinion, this game has lived up to its hype. The graphics are stunning in HD, the voice acting is spot-on, the gameplay simply defines MGS4, and there are so many features and unlockables, there's no way you'll be able to access all of them even after you complete the game for your first time.
Some of the cutscenes are way too long, and it will get a little annoying after so many overly-dramatic ones - there was just a bit too much romance in the story. It also feels like you're playing the longest movie you'll ever watch.
I was very excited when I heard the release was going to be this summer; but I was suddenly, quickly disappointed when the creator, Hideo Kojima, said that the final product was not what he had envisioned. The game is running the Cell Broadband Processor to it's limit, which is astounding. He never said that he was not satisfied; in fact, he was very much satisified. But when Kojima Productions had planned to take this game forward, Kojima thought that they had only taken the first step. Unfortunately the PS3 is not powerful enough, and there are currently no Blu-ray discs that would have been able to meet Kojima's expectations. I guess he's waitng for the PlayStation 4 as well.
However, he has done a brilliant job, and I find it very difficult to give this game less than five stars.

I got this game with the PS3 bundle, and this has been far one of the best decisions I have ever made in 2008. This game has incredible graphics and the storyline is jus tplain awesome. It takes a long time to complete but in the end, you'll feel better about yourself when you've experienced a great phenomenon like this.

the story line is complex and would not recommend this to a first time player, even playing the 2nd game can really help as you fill in the blanks of part 1 and 3, if you have played the other games the story line is understandable and one of the best storylines i have ever played. the sneaking essence of this franchise is still there because even though your in the middle of urban warfare you still have to go around enemies, for trying to kill all of them is rather a suicide mission. the online multiplayer also a third person thing and it is great, you do not play snake on multiplayer(of course) so are typically a wanna be snake where you can still that stealth like or just make it like COD and run around shooting people.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is the epic conclusion of the Metal Gear Solid series, which began with the original Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation 1 in 1998. Though the series is traditionally known for its stealthy gameplay, the fourth installment is far more free in allowing you to tackle the game in any way you see fit, which includes nearly all out action.
Metal Gear Solid 4’s control mechanics really bring the game into the next generation, with the best control scheme yet in the series. It plays like a dream, and you’ll be able to execute every single action in the game fluidly.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is breathtaking, and it’s not a stretch to say this is easily one of the best looking games ever created, if not the best. The level of detail in the game is astounding. From dust settling on the camera to snow settling on Snake and melting indoors, no level of detail is too miniscule.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is the reason I bought a PS3. No. I take that back. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the reason I play games. It's the kind of game that you don't want to put down.
I’ve attempted to recapture the experience I had playing Metal Gear Solid 4, and put it into words. But, no matter how many times I revise this or work on this, I’ll never feel that I’ve succeeded. The game simply cannot be put into words. You’ll have to experience it for yourself. And man, what an experience it is!

Great game. As always, snake is cool and better than ever. Great graphics and storyline. Also extremely realistic. There are parts where you have to stay off the radar and go unnoticed, things like that. All in all, good buy. But what I can't understand is why they are taking the game demo out now.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was the supposed reason to buy a PlayStation 3. My answer: No, its not. There are many other great, exclusive features on the PS3 that should give you another reason to buy it. Though now my mind is focused on the blockbuster-hit game. I've read other reviews of this game and people claim that this is the best game of all time! So I confidently went to Best Buy, got the game, went home and played the single-player campaign and was very impressed. The game has a great story (Ive never played any other in the series and I knew just about everything that was going on after the first chapter.) AMAZING, life-like graphics, high replayability, but really nothing else when I start putting MGO. (Metal Gear Online A.K.A MGS4's multiplayer.) With multiplayer being more popular then ever, I was expecting a great experience thinking a lot of thought must have been put into this part of the game, though I was not equally as impressed as I was with the single player. To sum it up in a word: Boring. And, you could include complicated and hard-to-get-used-to as well. First, you start off with this LONG account page with unneccessary additions. Then when it comes to getting your password and username, it just gets worse. It is so picky of what you use it gets frusterating. For example, you need a 8 alphanumeric password. No, I didn't know what alphanumeric means, but it ended up meaning you need both numbers and letters in your password. So I guess the frustration comes mostly from the complex navigation. Skipping it all to when Im playing. Again, BORING. Your person moves incredibly slow, it is hard to take down an enemy, CQC is clunky and hard to accomplish, maps are blah, and the weapon selection is far to complex then it has to be. Also controls are a bit of a mystery and in the single player cut scenes can come to amounts of over 45 minutes at a time, which yes can get pretty boring. Over all of my complaining of MGS4's lackluster multiplayer, it is still a game that defines the PlayStation 3's true potential and anyone who owns the console shouldn't miss.

the game starts off like the current war in iraq. its truly amazing. it takes you you all over the place from small old time looking cities to amazing looking forests. ever single level is truly breathtaking and the boss battles are creative with humor and action. the cutscenes might be a bit to long(one was about 20 minutes)but they all have realistic voice acting and are true eye candy in just about every way. just about all the items and weapons will be used but there are some completely pointless items and weapons that you will never use. the cardboard box and barrels to use for cover and to hide are hilarious sequences. all the characters are interesting. snake is truly awsome. hes almost like bruce willis from die hard or harison ford from indiana jones 4. hes old and it adds character to the whole game. its cool that you can change different faces and outfits of snake during gameplay, but i usually dont bother changing anythign. overall, this is a masterpiece from the humor to the action.

I was a little disappointed in how quick I beat this game, however it still has a good storyline, and solid game play (no pun intended). The online version of the game is a little rough around the edges, but all in all adds a different flavor to the Metal Gear Solid series. I'd recomend this game to anyone who has been following the story, otherwise you might be confused as far as the story goes.

WHOA!! thats all I can say about the game. I am a die hard metal gear fan. I have every metal gear game since nintendo (metal gear and Snakes revenge). This is by far the best metal gear ever created and the best game ever created. I really don't like when people say they never played any metal gear games in the past but they have played this one and understand the story. that is not possible you guys need to go back and educate yourselves on metal history. And don't think that this is the last of snake. The metal gear creato himself said that each metal gear solid was supposed to be the last but somehow they were able to bring it back without deviating from the story. And like liquid said in MGS1 "not yet snake, its not over yet". I think the patriots have a way to reverse snakes rapid aging. or maybe the game will be hidden in a new title name. Any way the game is great and I wish everyone should get it. I feel sorry for 360 owners that don't have a ps3.

I was not to sure about buying this game. I liked the first one and the second one was not as fun. So I never bought the third one. After playing this game I fell in love with the story all over again and had so much fun beatting it several times just to try different things. If you like military games with a little twist then this game is for you.
