Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the excellent gameplay, overall performance, and well-executed controls of Metroid Dread. Many appreciate the engaging story, exploration, and action-packed nature of the game, while some find the difficulty to be a positive aspect. Criticisms include concerns about certain boss encounters, the price point, and the limited presence of music. Some players also felt the game was a little too linear and that the EMMI zones became repetitive.

it's ok I grew up on Metroid and much prefer the super Metroid and prime approach much slower and more interesting areas to explore. This one is a bit fast paced and the environments are very boring as it's just a giant spaceship with slightly different back drops.

In the intro cutscene your character is held against her will by a tentacle monster that seems to insert something into her. Robots refer to her simply as “woman”. There are things that kill you instantly that you could only learn from trial and error, which has always universally considered bad gameplay. Worse than even Dragon’s Lair there are load times after you die. There is barely any music. The graphics really needed a Switch HD which they unfortunately couldn’t do due to the chip shortage.

Dread the control and handling of this game

I started playing Metroid back when Fusion came out on the GBA and managed to play all the classic 2D Metroids since then. I have always had a blast with the series but this game is honestly dreadful because of the controls and handling alone. Whoever came up with the concept of 360 degree aiming needs to get fired, this game is so fast pace and it expects you to manually aim while stopping you in place and avoid fast moving objects and enemies… it’s bad.( And before you say X button to dodge, I guarantee most people aren’t going to be able to parry everything in this game unless they are well versed in parry timing in video games). Every other Metroid game has had a button to aim at an angle automatically without forcing you to stop in place. It’s too clunky for a fast pace game such as this. Plus playing this game on Joy Cons feels god awful, those analog sticks aren’t made for precise aiming, you’ll die to an EMMI just because of how overly sensitive the joy sticks are. You shouldn’t have to spend $60+ on a pro controller just to get a better experience. If you are new to the series, I say just watch the game on YouTube and play Super Metroid on the Nintendo online service. For returning fans, I know it’s important to support this series but this game is lacking the true smoothness of a Metroid game.

I like switch games because I can pick up and play again. Not with this one once I am done I don't want to play again they lack content and make you die over and over you can't even explore or have fun because the map locks you so you have to fight boss after boss, why do they always mess Metroid games up so sad. If you like to be fustrated and in a bad mood this the game for you.

I was excited to play this game, until i actually played it. The controls are confusing and not intuitive at all. This will test your patience. Extremely frustrating, confusing and you will die over and over, trying to avoid an enemy thst cant be beat early on. I wish i could return this game, definitely not for me. Not fun at all.

One of Favorite Nintendo Games of All Time

I am seeing a lot of criticism of this game because it is hard and requires trial and error. These are true. However, that is completely the point of this gameplay style. It's fast paced and challenging. You are given everything you need to succeed. It is up to the player alone to put those resources to use and overcome what the game throws at you. I died A TON in this game, but each time I learned from it and did not repeat the same mistakes during encounters. A game over screen in this game never feels unwarranted or unfair. If I died, it is because I made a mistake, not because the game cheated me or tricked me. Go into this game knowing that you will make a ton of mistakes and will have to put your knowledge of the game's enemy types and encounters to the test to overcome them. I bet you will have a better time. This game is absolutely amazing, and it blew all of my expectations out of the water. The story is told subtly and well through character movements and interactions, with some small dialogue. This game takes Metroid back to its roots with more open ended map design and a non-linear format. The graphics are quite nice for a Switch game, and I found myself completely loving the animations in this (easily one of the BEST parts of the game). I have to say that I absolutely loved the boss fights in Dread. To me, there are several in this one that are certainly among the series' best encounters. Please check this game out and give it a fair chance. Don't give up on it just because you die over and over. I promise if you stick with it, you'll overcome the challenges presented to you. A solid 10/10 for me. Easily one of my favorite games in the past decade +.

The new stealth/instadeath system is not fun. There are large chunks of the game that become very annoying and you'll be repeating with trial and error until you get it right.
