Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the Surface Book 2's ease of use, versatile tablet mode, and excellent battery life. Many also praise its performance and elegant design, though some find the weight to be a positive attribute. However, the high price point is a common concern, along with the limited screen size and port selection for some users. A few customers also mentioned that they wished for more RAM and storage options.

After I bought this I realized it just wasn’t for me. And for this price, you wanna love it. It’s built solid and has the amazing quality surface is known for. Unless you want a powerful large tablet though the surface laptops or pros are better options at much better pricing

I like the look, like the weight, like having a new machine, but I hate the black dotted line that keeps showing up while I'm working. It's not there all the time, thank goodness, but it shows up with fillable screens.

This is an awfully expensive, terrible product. Not only does it not perform as advertised, it seems that every week some basic function just virtually disappears. First it stopped connecting automatically to the internet. This issue took four (4) hours with a technical specialist on the phone to resolve. Later most functions stopped working (bluetooth disappeared from device, the date disappeared, display settings disappeared). This new issue took 2 days to resolve as apparently this machine does not do automatic updates (as every machine in the world does), so for two days every time I turned on the machine it would restart to install updates. This is when I got called out on it at work. Everyone made fun of me. So Thank you for the embarrassment. Now, to this day this incredibly expensive machine does not connect to my bluetooth headset, which is required by every job around the world right now because of the pandemic. It seems that every 2 days I call technical support and they come up with a new way to "fix it" and guess what? The next day I have the same problem. My bosses have already sanctioned me for not being able to be available to work. When I get fired I want you to know it was because this product is unreliable and when I'm working on it I'm terrified when someone asks me for an online meeting and/or to share my screen. I even asked for the machine to be replaced, which tech support said they would call back to set it up and guess what? it has been three (3) days and no one has called me back. There are people at my job with laptops worth $300 from like 2014 and have never suffered the same embarrassment I have in the last 2 months. I cannot return it to Best Buy as the warranty has expired. So, at least I can warn you about it. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, IT WILL GET YOU FIRED.

I loved it at first, but three weeks after the purchase the detach/attach button started malfunctioning. Every time I typed the detach button would light up. This would cause the screen to detach and as a result the screen would darken and typing would come to a halt. I specifically purchased this device to do remote learning with my students. Unfortunately, I had to return it.

I’ve had this for a few years now and it just doesn’t run the best anymore. I’ve kept it super clean but it’s just slow. Looking to upgrade to Apple. The trade in value for this device is super low too Considering how much it costs. I guess depreciation really gets those numbers down a lot only after 2 years. Not a 2+ year recommendation as it will get super slow after 2 years.

Purchased this device near the end of October (2018). Since then, I've found that this device overheats during simple tasks, like using chrome with multiple tabs (1-10 open). This is likely due to the absence of an internal fan. The keyboard feels great to use. Overall, for the price, I can't recommend this device.

Surface Book 2 is a LEMON!

I purchased a Surface Book 2 and it lasted only 18 months before it failed to power on. It’s in perfect cosmetic condition, because it never left my desk. And it never was around any foods or liquids. Contacted Microsoft customer service. Since it was out of the 1 year warranty, I had the option of purchasing another book for $650 and only 90 day warranty and nothing additional. NO THANKS! Fool me once... Never had a computer fail in a matter of less than a year. Going to try a Mac Book Pro from now on for my graphic designs and animation.

It stated that it was surface book 2 when I bought this. But instead I just got the regular surface book. I could've bought one for cheaper if I wanted to. Really disappointed. Trying to upload the picture and its not even loading. And it cancel upon itself. I can't afford to wait on this mistake to return. How troublesome.

Its 2023, mine is still kicking

Bought this 2019. I got a lemon, so luckily Microsoft store gave me a brand new one since the one in the package had a very faulty processor. It's 2023 and I'm still using it. Great performance, nice display. Very easy to remove the screen and make it tablet mode. Responsive screen with the pen. Overall a good laptop. Emphasis on 'good'. The one thing it is absolutely horrible and it's the major desing flaw is its wifi. As soon as you close it to place it in the dock and turn it into a 'PC', any connection with the internet is nulled. You ABSOLUTELY NEED a wifi antenna to make the wifi work. And not just any mini wifi boster. No, you need to drop the money to get one of the big ones to get ANY FLIPPING internet connection. This also takes an USB port so be ready to make a scarifice. As a laptop/tablet, there're no issues. Once in dock mode, 100% useless internet. If you do NOT intend to use this with a docking system you are good. If you WANT to use is with the docking - look for another laptop. Since time has gone by, I don't believe this comment will do anything since the new laptops are more powerful and I bet/hope the wifi device is set in a less than convenient placement inside the laptop. But if you need to buy an older model to save some money or one that will take a bit of a beating, this one is up your alley. Again...not for docking. Definitely 100% not for docking. Good for everything else when in laptop/tablet mode.

    Versatile and functional

I switched from a Dell (4 years on first laptop, 6 years on second) to this Windows, and I have to admit it took me a long time to get the features down. I am still learning different things about the laptop 6 months later! Overall, supports most of the programs that I need, runs quickly and quietly, and allows the customization I need as a student. PROS: -Touchscreen is precise and easy to write on- doesn't get very finicky about wrist touches, etc. -Starts up fast -Battery lasts through 8 hours of classes with some to spare. Able to accommodate up to 2 additional screens. -Back-lit keyboard can be on or off, and brightness can be adjusted -Lightweight -Can function as a tablet or laptop. -If tablet battery is low, can attach to the keyboard backwards, so I can continue to use as a tablet, but have the additional battery of the keyboard. -Can use as tablet with keyboard on backwards so I can have additional screens. -Durable case protector available CONS: -Screen does not get very bright -Volume is very minimal -Stylus costs extra, and is expensive. -No ports on the screen (tablet) portion of the computer -Only 2 USB ports, 1 USB-C port. -No HDMI port -Hinge on screen is loose, so screen tends to slowly close if holding the laptop at an angle. -Select applications are not compatible Overall, I am happy with my purchase. This cost me a lot more than the similar Dell laptop, so I hope to get at least 5 years out of it. Gets the job done for now! If it does not have a reasonable lifespan, Ill be back with a crabby review!

This worked great for the first few months. After some time, it started bluescreening a lot and some applications stopped working. I suggest you to look at other laptops because this was not worth it for the price point at all.
