Close but no cigar.......
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The engineering put into this device is just unrivaled. The Surface Duo for starters is that almost perfect phone I have been looking for. Of course, the phone has some issues which I cannot overlook, and lead me to returning the device. 1- No micro sd card slot. In 2021, 256gb on a cellphone is not enough. The operating system will take a portion of the storage for its own use, leaving with you with about 221gb remaining. Now, if you are one who likes to store lots of music, photos and movies on a phone then this phone is not good. To augment the low amount in storage, the least Microsoft could have done was create a micro-sd card slot somewhere on the other side of the device 2- Low storage, as I said on the first point, 256gb is too low for storage on a phone in 2021. 512gb is perfect, while 1tb is overkill. 3- The phone lags and freezes. Maybe it can be the processor. Maybe its the software but having a brand new phone that lags and then freezes is not good for the user experience or for the name brand 4- The thinness of the phone is an engineering marvel, however, the usb-c slot is paper thin. Charing it would make you afraid of accidentally breaking the phone. I have heard reports online of this happening. 5- The camera, just one camera which is 11mp is not good. At least two camera inside the screen would have been alright. I dont mind flipping the device just to access the camera In looking for a Galaxy S10+ replacement, I am looking for a phone not only to match but also to surpass the specs of 512gb of storage, 8gb of ram. I want a beast of a phone that has excellent battery life, a buttery smooth interface and something that can be a multi-tasker at many things. The Surface Duo would have, should have and could have.... but not this time around. I hope, the next generation this would be perfection

was a four star, then I used the DUO for two weeks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first took delivery of the DUO, I updated via wifi before setting up cellular service with Verizon. Did all the reboots etc. I had no issues. I then first stopped by my Verizon dealer and had them call to have my SMS network settings changed to CDMA Less. The ensures you will receive and send SMS. My four star was originally due to the camera and gestures. The camera is ok, not great. Now that I have learned a new gesture "language" I love the DUO! FIVE STARS! No real glitches. Not sluggish at all. Had I not read the specs, I would have no clue they are 18 months old. Don't get me wrong. This is a new category of device. It has its hiccups software wise. Having been an early adopter since the Apple Newton days, Pocket PC and even many mini Window XP Tablets. This is a very good and polished "1st gen" device. My primary use, is professional . Being able to run two apps side by side in a 4:3 view is perfect! Split screens on even a Note 9 was never practical. I no longer use my iPad Pro 11 for out in the field. Heck, the DUO has even replaced my iPad Mini, returned! This may not be for you, if: You play a lot of video games, watch movies on a tablet, or need a 8-10 inch tablet screen with out seams or dimples. The Galaxy fold, which has software growing pains as well, is a more consumable device than multi tasking professional device. The newest surface pen is great! It even will magnetically stick to the DUO in a pinch. No matter what foldable you get, use it for two weeks or more. The DUO gives you a full 60 days. Use it! Enjoy your DUO!

LOVE THIS DEVICE!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a simple review. I bought this after I saw it on display and had the opportunity to touch it and use it. A+++ to Microsoft for doing that absolutely Perfectly... Samsung's Foldable is behind a plexiglass Display so you can't touch it... $2000 but don't touch ...What are they thinking??. I work for an airline and just love this device, it works perfectly for me and the battery life is fantastic, Crisp, Clear Pics, and what a time saver to be able to view two screen at the same time... CAN'T do that on ANY phone...This Duo has made me do a HARD PASS on the Iphone upgrade this year... Same old thing there just costs $150 less and then the "services" will add up Apples ever running money drain... LITTLE INNOVATION at Apple Anymore ... I am sorry to say... This is the Future of Everything we need in a portable device.. Thank you Microsoft, you guys are doing everything correctly in the Space!!!.

Great multitasking machine!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just picked up this Surface Duo at my local Best Buy and am totally happy with my purchase! Yes, there are some glitches here and there but once you learn how to use the gestures and changing postures it's fantastic. I've definitely been more productive with the Duo than a regular phone. This Duo is replacing my Pixel and iPad Pro. I'm using a foldable Bluetooth keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse when needed for more serious work and it works great. Now I'll always have my "tablet" with me in the Duo. I love my iPad Pro but hated having to bring it around with me because it meant I had to wear a sling bag. It's definitely a must buy if you want/need the functionality. The software and apps will catch up and the glitches will go away. Do yourself a favor and pick up this next generation of mobile computing.

Love it!! Finally something different!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brilliant device!! I pre-ordered this directly from Microsoft. It took a little time to get used to the gestures and flow of the device. I've been using Samsung One UI for a while. Now that I 'm used to the flow I absolutely love this device! It's been working like a champ for me. I have the unlocked version and there was an update to download as soon as I turned it on. The form factor is awesome. I's smaller and more compact than I expected and easily fits in my pocket. The camera is decent, It's not as advanced as the ones in the premium Samsung Galaxy phones. There is also no AR technology so no AR emojis and etc. However, I feel it's a worth while trade off. The Youtube TV app did get a little glitchy when changing orientation . I'm not sure whether or not it's been optimized for this device. Other apps I've used on this device have worked fine. I have no regrets buying this phone.

Great business device!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Duo is the perfect mix of productivity and phone for me. Now I will say that I have had some of the negative lagging issues with the first generation product but for me and what I use it for (all Microsoft 365 applications) it performs flawlessly. Now on the next generation, whenever that comes, I would love to see more RAM as well as addition storage options. Whether those storage options come in the way of onboard storage or via expandable that’s up to Microsoft. Obviously I would like to see upgraded processors but I don’t think upgraded cameras are necessary. If you use this product for its intended purpose, then the cameras are a non issues. If Microsoft wants to send me the next generation I would LOVE to test drive the product. Like I’ve said in other reviews I love the surface product.

Buy this phone - ignore the nitpicking reviews.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ignore the negative reviews. I have used iPhones exclusively as soon as they were introduced to the market. No more. This device truly does it all - for me. I can read a book...like a book. I can readily email easily and type and reply to texts with LOVELY big screens and a big keyboard. Yep, the camera isn't the iPhone camera. But it works! It is fine for casual photography and frankly, that is what most of us do. This phone just works and I don't have to hunch over and prop glasses on my head or end of my nose. I feel like I can be a human using a device not a human being controlled by a device. Don't hesitate - just get it.

Does not support....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i purchased the phone 4 weeks ago and returned it one week later. Best phone i have used. I truly love this phone for multi-tasking. i found no need to carry a tablet in addition to the phone. i could live without wireless charging, even the lack of NFC capability. The reason i returned the phone, was NO support for WiFi calling. My home is in dead zone for verizon signal and my job receives a very weak signal. If microsoft corrects this one issue, i would happily purchase the phone again.

DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have read dozens of reviews from the "Tech Insider Network" I wish my experience was similar to theirs but it is NOT. It is almost as if they received a different device than mine. I pre-ordered mine and it was delivered on 9/11/20. 1st of all it is extremely "glitchy" to the point of not being useable. Sometimes a keyboard will pop up when you need it, other times no matter how you swipe, no keyboard. Sometimes the screens will switch modes from single to dual, other times they will not with the same swipe action. The camera is not good and only and faces you which makes photography awkward. Transitioning from Iphone to Surface Duo was horrid. All tm's will be lost forever. After 1 mos of ownership, still cant get outlook/email with office 365 to work. Main reason for purchase was so I could use my spreadsheets will travelling without lugging around my laptop. The excel version for the surface duo is very difficult to work with especially since the keyboard is also very hard to use. My IT guy tried dealing with support for almost a week with no luck (endless games of emails and misdirection). Basically, I paid $1,400 for a device that I now use in my house only to work my SONOS and as a conversation piece to demonstrate how bad new tech is.....I am back to using my iphone. I was so excited about this I purchased it instead of getting a new surface laptop.

Just move on
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement, not just from device issues but with Microsoft customer service. I picked up the Duo on launch day after preordering it a week prior (even though I was told to hold off for the second gen by a Microsoft employee). The first 48 hours were great, in fact I loved using it but that’s when the problems started, as time went on the right side screen progressively heated up worse and worse. The software was fully updated, no hidden running apps in the background or anything like that (major Note 7 flashbacks). At one point it got so hot when I picked it up, it burned my fingers causing me to drop it back on the desk causing the back to crack, of course hitting a spot that the bumper doesn’t cover. Being dropped less than an inch.... cracking the Gorilla glass is also a major concern..... no this is not the end of the story. I reached out to Microsoft this past Monday and I will say that the rep I spoke to that day really made me feel something would actually be taken care off and well I was wrong. I was told the he would personally reach out to me no later than 24hours... well 48 hour later still no call. I called back and re-explained the situation told not to worry they will get this figured out for me and would call me back in 30 mins. Two hours later still no call, I reached out again, the automated system said the wait time would be 5-10min but could choose to leave my number and they would call me once my spot came up in cue, so I chose to do so. 45 minutes later still no call, so I decided to call back and just wait instead since the estimated wait time was still 5 to 10 minutes. After being on hold for another hour I hung up (this was around 7pm). Then to top it off I received a call back at 11pm from a computer saying that Microsoft apologized that they could not get to my call and to try again tomorrow. Which brings us to today. I called again spoke to a representative that I had to re-explain the issues, told the same old we will get back to you reassurance... sad thing is I still want the device as I truly liked it but this whole experience has soured Microsoft in my eyes. Save the head ache for yourself. If you have the funds you may want to look elsewhere for a foldable. I am still hoping that Microsoft will make this right but that faith is slowly fading

Great concept poor execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned this phone for less than 24 hr. I am a huge Microsoft user and was very excited to jump on the Duo. Within less than 24 hrs it was returned and I was back to Mortoroal phones. Horrible camera, and way too glitchy. For the price I expected this phone to be near perfect. It is FAR from it. I will wait for #2 or #3 before venturing down this path again.

Great Hardware with terrible software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely terrible mess: It doesnt know which side is up, on which screen to display the keyboard, where it’s camera app and viewfinder is. Swipes take 2 or 3 try’s to make it work. Flipping apps between screens sometimes work, gettin an app open on both screens almost never works the first time. Writing with the pen in OneNote lags embarrassingly. Overall the UI stutters and hangs and slows down. In short its a mess that takes sucks the beauty out of the hardware. This must be a massive embarks event for Microsoft after they worked for 6 years to build this and came so embarrassingly short.
