Best of Both Worlds-Surface Pro 2, 128 GB
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Surface Pro 2 fit my requirements perfectly. I am a working professional and professional student. I travel frequently, so I must have a full office productivity suite in a small package. This product is lighter than most laptops, so all the better-goes everywhere with me in my purse or briefbag. Set up was a snap. It is lightening fast for surfing and comes with tons of useful apps. Easy to multitask with two screens in complete view on the same machine. Touch or type-take your pick. Screen size is more than adequate. Battery life is better than my laptop. I am so pleased with the Surface Pro 2 hybrid, I gave my trusty laptop to one of my kids. Just one word of caution, if you are concerned about cosmetic blemishes, purchase a sleeve. Overall, this product is well worth the price tag. I only wish the keyboard/cover (Type Cover 2) was included as a package deal.

A little expensive BUT AWESOME!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had earlier bought the Sony Vaio Tap 11 - the pentium verison sold by Best Buy for $800 with keyboard, digital stylus, and 128B. For the price value equation the Surface Pro2 cannot beat the Sony, which in addition to the price is one slick and sexy tablet and the pentium processor was powerful enough. However I ran into serious problems with the keyboard malfunctioning on two different pieces I bought from Best Buy so had to return them. I finally caved in and bought the Surface Pro 2, 128 GB with the purple type cover and after a couple of weeks of use I have to admit this is the BEST MACHINE on the planet right now. The two things that kept me away from the Surface Pro 2 were weight and cost. The weight I have to confess is not an issue at all. While the sony was much lighter and also had a kick stand, I love the two level kick stand of the surface and seldom do I find the need to hold it in one hand. As far as cost is concerned, yes I too wish the keyboard came free with the tablet, but now that I have spent the money, it has all been worth it. I do find the right and left click buttons on the trackpad of the type keyboard to be horrible, the Sony keyboard was built much better (if only it worked). For me the digital stylus is the biggest selling point. I am a researcher and the ability to take notes in One Note and annotate pdf research articles has changed my life. I have gone paperless and it feels good. The eraser on the top of the pen is another feature missing on the Sony stylus. I have not tried photoshop on the surface yet but from what I gather that should not be a problem. I am looking forward to using Skype. My only complaint so far has been with the desktop and this is a windows 8 issue not a surface issue. When I try to remote access my work desktop and files, the font is totally tiny rendering the ability to remote log in useless. I still have to use my work laptop to access files on my office network from home. Once I figure out how to increase the font size on the remote access site, the Surface Pro 2 will become the one and only machine I would need in my life. I am extremely extremely thrilled with this device right from the simple yet exquisite packaging by Microsoft to its high power processor and much improved battery life. Good job Microsoft. I bought a 14 inch carrying case made by Amazon Basics from Amazon for 12 bucks and am all set for my next travel. I also have to say that with all the back and forth I had to do with Best Buy in terms of buying and exchanging the Sony tablets, the customer service at Best Buy has been simply phenomenal.

Great For Artists!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off Im a professional artist so i got relatively high expectations when it comes to my art tech. Ive owned a tablet pc in the past that i altered to fit my needs for art. I basically cut a usb key strip (called xkeys) the exact link I needed. It was pretty rad looking and was super useful but then again I like customizing my tools for art...I treat this stuff as digital art gear rather than pretty computer tech. Anyways, one of the things I liked when testing the cintique companion was that it had dedicate buttons on the bezel (more on that below). That said I opted for the surface pro 2 in the end and honestly she works like a champ. I couldnt be happier. The haswell i5 is actually a good thing...a banging i7 might seem tempting but honestly I cant tell you how nice it is to have loads of battery life when on the go. My last tablet was great, had a discrete (dedicated) graphics card but that and the 13 inch screen made it a bit of a beast for a sketch/sculpt book that I was after. It also always had to be plugged in and honestly that sucks. I love taking this little fella to work without the charger, sculpting outside at lunch, sketching in meetings, and coming home at the end of the day with 70-80% battery life. Im rarely this happy with my purchase so I just thought I would hare my experience. Oh before I forget, its kinda sacrilegious for me not to pimp out my tech in teems of specs but I think its important/impressive to mention that Im *only* rolling with the 4 gig model. It can handle quite a bit polys which I didnt expect. I usually just block in my forms and finish em off on my beast of a desktop but now im finding myself taking my designs further on the tablet alone. I love working on the couch, i hate setting at my desk the older I get. Anyways I wanted to try out the cheapest one they had (you can try out any model and return it without a restocking fee if it doesnt push the software and you decide you need more) but they were sold out of the cheapest model so they bumped me up to the 128 gig SSD for free (still with just 4 gig of ram). I was surprised to hear these have been flying off the shelves to be honest but now that I own one I get it. Its insane how small it is considering its a full up machine with a 64 bit os and for what I wanted (a truly portable sketch book) the screen is perrrrfect. Ive had bigger screens in the past and as nice as they seem it adds allot of bulk that Im trying to move away from. I work on a 30 inch all day so Im a real estate nut but this thing is exactly what I wanted. Anything bigger andit would sit and collect dust. I dont need another laptop and everyone here knows that the ipad is fun and games so for me it was between the Surface Pro 2 and the Cintique companion. I use this as a digital sketch book and sculpting on the go and this is exactly what i was looking for. Oh one last thing, I use the modbook wacom tablet pc pen since its got better ergo and 2 buttons.,The pen that comes with it looks pretty but Im used to intuos type pens. Also, I use the art dock which is an onscreen virtual hotkey tool specifically for professional artists (Maya, zbrush, photpshop, etc.). It works great...but...its lethal with the steel series touch control sticky screen buttons. Those are my new little best friends with the art dock. Im gonna try and paste this post/experience in other forums too since I had a hard time finding any serious art reviews on the surface (aside from penny arcade). Its a really sharp piece of hardware that is powerful and has banging battery life at a fraction of what it should/could cost. Hope this helps!

The best hybrid out there
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent a long time watching reviews, doing research, and trying to figure out what was going to be right for me. I went back and forth trying to decide if the Surface 2 or Pro 2 was going to be the tablet that would work best for me. I pulled the trigger and got the Surface Pro 2, and I'm very happy with my decision. This thing is a beast, from turning it on till the battery died (about 40% charge) this thing lasted me 5 hours. Granted, I wasn't power watching movies or stressing the CPU, but I did do some downloading and a lot of web surfing and watching videos on the net. Some of the cool things I noticed right away.. - Multitasking works great. In fact, it does it on its own. While I was trying to get signed in for Skype, a notification popped up for my email and began to multitask. This was really nice, and it works like a charm. - I have the screen brightness at about 50% and it's plenty bright enough to not even bother me. It'll help with battery life extremely. - The App store has plenty of cool things in it. Even though there wasn't a ton of high names like Apple/Google has, I was still able to jump on Internet Explorer and do the exact same thing. - I loaded up some movies from my computer that were ripped for my iPad, and they played seamlessly on the Surface Pro 2. - The stylus works really well. The clicker on the pen works as a right click so you don't have to hold the pen against the screen to get it to right click. - The new Type Cover 2 works great, backlit keyboard looks awesome and the key functionality is really improved. - Never using Windows 8 before, it was a breeze learning it and getting to different places. That's just my first impression from a few hours of use. Now, for the price. It's steep, and it should include the keyboard for the price you're paying. But, it's worth it. This will completely change the way I do business/play. If you're in the market for a new tablet or laptop, you should really give this thing a chance. Spend a half hour with it and you'll really like it's capabilities/portability. If you're not sure about having the entire computer experience, check out the Surface 2, it's really nice and still can do way more than your run of the mill iPad or Google tablet.

Excellent device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was first introduced to the Surface 2 Pro by a friend of mine that I was visiting in England. We were at a store purchasing an iPad Mini for his wife and he showed the product to me and said that if it were up to him, he would purchase that over the iPad due to its additional functionality. Recognizing that my desktop computer was about eight years old, I realized that its replacement was long over-due and wanted something highly portable. I narrowed my search down to either an iPad or a Surface Pro 2. The Surface won me over with its USB port, micro card reader, and display port, not to mention the fact that it will do flash. The decision to buy a Microsoft product was a challenging one for me as I have an iPhone, an Apple TV, and have owned a previous generation of the iPad. As I made my purchase, I was a bit nervous about deviating from what had become the familiar to me (Apple) and venturing back into a Microsoft product. The Surface, for me, does not have the visual appeal of the iPad. However, its functionality is far, far greater than that of the iPad. I was able to get a cord to allow me to connect my existing 27 inch desktop monitor to my surface. I can also connect my keyboard and mouse so that I can use it as a desktop whenever I'd like. The Surface is so quick that I can do everything on it that my desktop would do, and more, because of the additional functionality that I gained with the upgraded version of Windows (my old desktop ran Windows XP). With the full version of Windows, the fast processor, and the excellent screen resolution, I can accomplish anything that I need to. The USB port allows me to connect to my external hard drives or to input other devices with ease. I traveled on an airplane recently and I was very happy to have my Surface because it is smaller than a laptop and I often find myself having troubles being able to open my laptop screen to a sufficient angle for viewing while the seat in front of me is reclined. No issues with my surface. Right now, I'm writing this review from my Surface using the type keyboard while listening to internet radio. As well, the speaker on the Surface is surprisingly good. In short, I'd highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a high degree of flexibility from their tablet or someone that has an older model desktop computer that is looking for a replacement. The only drawback to me is that the app library is much more limited than that of the Apple store. There are a few apps that I'd really like to have on my surface but they just aren't yet available.

A Keeper! The perfect business pro tool!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After one week of use, I can state this is the perfect business tool for the mobile professional. As soon as IT approves Win 8.1 this will become my sole office/travel device. No need to carry a laptop and tablet. This device consolidates both of them. Size and weight -- perfect for a fully functional PC replacement / tablet combo. The absence of bloat wear is great. I purchased the 128GB model with a 64GB mini-SD card and storage is not a problem -- OS and programs on the SSD drive and my files and documents on the SD card. My only wish was that a 4G LTE model was available for convenience. Win 8.1 is not as much a dramatic change as I thought it would be. The new start menu offers flexibility and ease of operation. Don't delete the "Help & Tips" tile -- you'll need it when learning to navigate 8.1 properly. Don't believe all of the tech reviews out there. These folks are having difficulty in understanding how to categorize this device. The Pro model is a fully functional ultra book in a tablet form factor. The Surface 2 is an iPad competitor -- simple as that.

Disappointing - would never recomend
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would like to return it as it is not functional as a Business pc for support. Windows 8 is a joke. Battery life is 2-4 hours. Wifi is weak and does not support needs even with a strong signal. Customer support is non existent. I waited for 1 hour for a chat service rep to answer questions.

Awesome for productivity and great for other uses
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I struggled with trying to use an IPad for a couple of years for work. I finally decided to bite the bullet and get the Surface Pro 2. It is awesome! It does everything that I wish the IPad would do. This device (with a couple of accessories) has taken the place of my IPad, Laptop and I just gave my desktop to my kids. After reading some reviews I thought that it would take longer to get used to, but it only took a couple of days to get to know this device. Downsides: On the heavy side for a tablet, no good place to put the stylus, and the price is WAY high. I really think that the Pro 2 could be the most popular tablet in the world if it was priced differently. It is everything the IPad isn't. The Windows store is terrible. The Pro more than makes up for the lack or low qualify apps because I can install any windows program on the Pro. I would probably NOT recommend the regular surface because of just how terrible the Windows store is.

BYE BYE LAPTOP! … HELLO TABLET!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old laptop died. I debated for 3 months whether I should get another laptop or a tablet. I finally took the plunge by spending few hundred dollars more for a tablet (Surface Pro 2, 128GB). OMG! This product is amazing! IT IS FAST, INTUITIVE and USER-FRIENDLY. Not to mention, the colors on the screen are sharp and beautiful. You don’t have to be a techy kind of person to be able to navigate through the tablet. I LOVE IT!!! I am recommending it to anyone who is thinking buying a new computer. I couldn’t be happier.

Very Good Tablet PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Very good Tablet. I bought this 4/2014 and I have been having a blast! it runs fast, starts quick and even can play very good quality games. Great Battery Life I use this a lot and it runs all day long(working not gaming). Form factor is amazing. I have a case that looks like a leather portfolio which hold the tablet, smart pen and the type keyboard. All around Great device and I am happy with my purchase. Con: when you have a picture for your unlock screen with pattern to unlock it has a major lag. Sometimes the lag is bad to the point the screen sits black for a few seconds. The long black out is mainly on start up after you swipe up to get to the lock image but still a major bummer.... I really like the screen picture lock feature even though it lets me down sometimes so I still use it and deal with it because it's not horrible. If Microsoft would put a update to fix it I would Definitely Give 5 Stars!!!

It's more than tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you need something to browse the web or light office work, get an Android or Apple tablet, you won’t be happy with this because all though it can be used as a tablet, its real benefit comes from being a small laptop. If you want to browse the internet, do light business work, play the same video games you do on the PC, or edit pictures and videos, then this is the device you need. It also comes with more on board memory, micro SD slot, and a full size USB 3 port, all on the main device. I had a top of the line Android tablet and keyboard that I gave away when I got the Surface Pro 2. I got tired of Android apps not giving me the functionality I needed. The entire point of having a mobile device is to be able to do the same thing you can at home or the office on the move. Android and Apple both fall short on this, they just don’t have the software or the ability to truly multi-task. Also they do not have the memory and processing power to edit large pictures or high bandwidth video in an acceptable manner. I seldom use the Metro interface although its features are more intelligent than Android and Apple. The ability to drop to the desktop and run multiple programs and handle multiple directories of files is what I use most. I mostly do web browsing, office documents, Photoshop CS 6, and play several games that I have on my PC, mostly Steam. I find having the keyboard is invaluable for this. It’s not perfect, price needs to be lowered 25%, come with a keyboard, and all models need a larger SSD. Cameras are mediocre and MS 8.1 really needs the old task bar back. Metro interface is nice, but better suited for a phone. Android and Apple apps are small and designed to do a few things quickly, MS apps are big, bloated and designed to be an everything solution for everyone. OS is a monster compared to others (I can’t believe I’m saying this) but it’s more secure. MS also has a privacy policy, read what Android and Apple say about theirs. And if you want a virtual machine, you can do that also.

One Tablet To Rule Them All
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far the most advanced tablet in the market today. It can load pretty much any PC program you need and now with the Haswell i5 processor in it the Surface Pro 2 has even better battery life than the first Surface Pro. The added 2-stage kickstand is also a great addition to the Surface Pro 2. I end up using my Surface Pro 2 more than I use my laptop because of just how smooth and fast it is. For those that don't need to load their own programs onto the Surface than there is the Surface 2 or Surface RT which offer the same great experience without the added weight or price of the Surface Pro 2.

Does it for me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was waiting to buy the back ordered wacom cintiq 13hd drawing tablet, before I learned about the surface pro 2 using wacom technology. The surface pro is a little smaller but does everything I want it to do. I read a review from an established illustrator that sold me on the drawing capabilities of the pro. The fact that it is a computer in itself is much better than the cintiq which would have required a separate computer to be connected to that would run the drawing programs such as photoshop or sketchbook pro. With the surface pro 2 the programs are loaded directly into it. Another thing is that it uses windows 8.1 which gives it touch capabilities only available in much more expensive, albeit larger, wacom drawing tablets. Rotating, enlarging and shrinking with the flick of your fingers when working on drawings is great. I loved the fact that it is bluetooth capable because I can use my own bluetooth keyboard and mouse while still being able to use the pen or on screen keyboard when I want with no conflict. Bright screen, very good battery life, and very fast, for the same money as a cintiq 13HD?? Buying the pro was one of the best moves I've made in a long time. A great drawing tablet that is a freakin touch screen computer too!

Great product even for beginners!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a very tough decision for me, 2 or pro 2? (The Sony Experia Z was 3rd on my list) I spent many hours reviewing tablets, the amazing solid construction of Surface is the biggest reason i choose it. I spend a lot of time outdoors, i need solid equipment in my backpack, not toys! I didn't really need a Pro 2 but after MUCH research i realized with any other tablet i will face restrictions as to what i can do with it, do i want to be limited in my use? I use the Windows platform on my PC, that's all i know, why learn an Android or any others? The sound on this thing is impressive, works quite well! USB and SD, hey, do i really need to keep going? The kickstand, the great hardware. I shoot a LOT of pictures, at 24 mps, the Intel 5 will serve me well! I spent a LOT of hours digging thru reviews, in the end it was right there in front of me the whole time, right there on the Surface!!!

Best device I've ever owned. Hands-down.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've replaced my iPad, my laptop, and my desktop with this device. Boots in less than 6 seconds. I use it like a tablet for reading e-books, surfing the web, checking email, but I have also developed apps on it and use it frequently for word processing and spreadsheets. I installed MS Office and Visual Studio 2012 on it and I don't touch my desktop or laptop any more. I do plug in to an external monitor if I'm going to spend a lot of time in Visual Studio, but I can play around with C# and JavaScript for an hour with just the tablet and the touch keyboard. Slightly heavier than my wife's iPad, but not enough to make a real difference. My kids and wife want one now.

Excellent Tablet/PC Combination
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was using an iPad but kept getting frustrated because some attachments to emails wouldn't open, there was no keyboard and it was difficult to transfer files. This tablet is the best of all worlds - it is a tablet and a PC. It will allow me to keep my laptop at work and use the tablet for traveling. It is easy to use and has a regular desktop if that is what you want to use. It has the Office suite of products and can integrate with mobile phones, tablets and PCs very easily. I recommend the type keypad and the arc mouse. Together they work great. Also, there is criticism that there "are not enough apps". I haven't found that to be a problem. I believe they have 110,000 apps. Really, how many do you really need? shis is a great tablet that you will enjoy using and will get a lot of use.

Love My new surface pro 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far i'm loving my surface pro 2. Its really fast and i have been using it as a replacement for my broken laptop. It seems to handle my programs nicely, the battery has been good while using moderately demeaning apps, Ive gotten 5+ hours with screen @ 80-90 percent brightness & with a full load on it making the fan kick on i got 2 1/2 hours playing a game. not as good battery of my ipad but i wasn't expecting it too since this was designed to be more of a full pc in tablet form. I'm very happy with my choice to get the surface much much better then the dell venue 11 pro i tried 1st The only thing that kinda disappointment me was the lack of cases for the surface. I'm use to being able to buy a nice heavy duty case to protect my tablet from me and my kids lol One thing i did find out is Microsoft recently did a slight hardware change to the surface pro 2 which was to slightly bump up the CPU from a i5 4200U to a i5 4300U . the 4300u is a slightly faster and better CPU, not by much but if you are going to bet using cpu demanding programs any bit of extra CPU helps. So if you are looking to spend a ton of money on one might want to try and get the newer version. the only way to tell is by looking at the Lot number on the box in the middle of the two sets of bar codes, anything with a lot number of 1350 or higher has the newer CPU

My first
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this product for nearly 6 months, so I think I know more about it now. I like it...maybe heavier than most tablets, but acceptable. I am constantly using/creating Office Word, Excel or OneNote documents, so installed Office Student 2013. Battery life could be better and no gps on a tablet gets 4 stars. Detachable keyboard is easy to use. 8.1 Pro takes time to learn, but now I would buy another 8.1 "Pro" O.S. machine. The extra for Windows Media Center is worthwhile as I can import TV/video and play on WMC. There is still a lack of apps, but this computer is used more for productivity and entertainment, than games, I am missing just a few apps that I would like to install and cannot find..
