    Suprisingly good laptop/tablet

I just picked one of these up after a lot of thought, I needed a laptop that had windows on it for specific programs I use. I have a Macbook Pro that i bootcamp into windows but it takes up hard drive space and I needed to split the usage up between two machines. The biggest selling point on this for me was the ability to run a full program on a tablet sized computer. I use it for tuning purposes and logging data in cars, so size was a huge factor, the touch screen makes everything super simple. I also loaded a few games onto it that arent mac friendly, big games also, they all run flawlessly and they look great on the 1080p screen. It was strange going back to a windows pc after using a Mac for so long, but i have no regrets and my Mac still has a purpose, each machine is built much differently, this one suited every need I had. It is also fast, very fast, boots up quickly easy to use, no complaints other then the lack of ability to upgrade the SSD or ram in the future but that is alright, as they do provide quite a bit. Also as someone else had said, the sound quality is top notch for its size, even better then my Mac, which is great because I enjoy listening to my music quite a bit.

    Perfect for Traveling

I travel a lot, and got tired of carrying my heavy work laptop and kindle. I tried to get by with just an ipad, which was great for entertainment and reading, but terrible for getting work done. I decided to bite the bullet and invest a large sum of money in the Surface Pro. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well it suits me. The pro version is definitely te way to go, as I can run Matlab and do calculations as well as steam with less graphically intense games. The windows store is mediocre, but with full win 8.1 that's not an issue. At the same time, it makes a great tablet and ereader. As a plus, the form factor fits great on tiny airplane tables. I don't recommend the wedge mouse, it was garbage and wouldn't right click or scroll reliably. The arc mouse is the same price and works wonderfully. It clicks and scrolls well and fits nicely in bag/poket. Combined with the touch cover, the system feels great. I was on the fence about how useful the pro 2 would be, but for a traveler who wants to get work done, its perfect.

Surface Pro 2 is worth every penny! I wanted a tablet that I could grab and go for work and play. surface pro 2 isn't just a tablet, it's a full fledged computer with windows 8.1 installed. I downloaded security software, no problems. downloaded and use Microsoft Office 365, no problems. working with any application I throw at it, no problems. I can hardly believe everything this tablet will do and it is my go to computer now. amazing technology and kudos to Microsoft! Thank you for exceeding all of my expectations and then some. Battery life is amazing and the i5 processor is super fast and dependable. I am so glad I bought this computer and you will be too!

    Worth Considering but not perfect

I have been using the Pro 2 128GB unit for a month and have been relatively pleased with its performance. I set up my home network with a CD ROM drive from one of my other computers as a shared device which allowed me to install my older MS Office products on the machine using compatibility mode and they work fine. Have found some of the security features of the unit get in the way of some video conferencing for work but worked around by using an alternate browser with security disabled for those functions. Touch screen if difficult to navigate as the icons are small and sometimes difficult to hit. Battery life is reasonable as I get approx. 6 hours of used before charging. The keyboard is poor as the buttons are hard to locate as they are all black and blend into the touch panel. They also do not function as well as they should. I have the touch keyboard but the mouse buttons have no tactile confirmation. The external storage SIM is a big plus for these units and I feel some of the others have missed the boat omitting this feature. Weight is acceptable but I can see some people may have issues with holding it for extended periods (approx. .5lbs heavier than some of the competition). All-in-all it is a good unit and I would recommend for personal use.

    The real deal

This hybrid really seems to be all I will need for work, play and reading. It has the best of both worlds and really is a whole new world itself. With the arrival of Flipboard the "big apps" gap seems to be closing. I am a software developer so immediately installed Visual Studio which ran flawlessly and made me realize that the screen size is actually very good. I was initially a little scared of the two pounds it weighs, fear not, rarelly use it one handed and most of the time is resting in my lap. They really got it right with this machine. and I recommend it to people wanting to get rid of too many devices. just get it!

Ultimate 2 in 1 tablet laptop combo

I have been looking for the best laptop tablet combo for some time now and I had started with the Asus, and then moved on to the HP and finally the Lenovo before finally keeping the Microsoft Surface Pro 2. It took me almost a month before deciding to finally keep this one. I can tell you for the money you're not going to find a better deal on such a powerful, feature rich, and at this size, for the price it's selling for anywhere. It's not to big and bulky and it's not to small and perfect for movies. Trust me, I just flew out of town and this was the perfect companion and a perfect fit in flight. It was often mistaken for a tablet and I had to point out it was my laptop. The only complaint I have is the memory. I really wanted the same one but with 256 GB solid state hard drive and the 8GB memory, but they didn't have it in stock. I was afraid it might not hold up with all the software I loaded on it but it worked like a champ. Still, if you get a chance to buy the one with 8GB memory and the bigger drive, I would highly recommend jumping all over that one. Otherwise, if you need one now and/or don't want to spend $300.00 more then this one is still an excellent buy. Awesome machine!

    Amazing tablet/laptop

I purchased the original Surface Pro 64GB, and what few features I thought that was lacking have been improved. The new Intel processor really gives it a much better battery life, and the better graphics even allows me to play PC games on my tablet, the cameras are much sharper, the dual-position kickstand makes it more comfortable to use in more situations, and the speakers are much louder. Still super durable magnesium casing and Gorilla Glass make this a hardy device. If they perform a miracle and make the Surface Pro 3 thinner and lighter while not cutting corners, I'll be getting that one too.

    Excellent Tablet/Laptop

I'm really enjoying the Surface Pro 2. Coming from the original Surface Pro, the second generation model is a joy to use. The 2 angle kickstand comes in handy when using it on my lap, as well as resting it on the Type Cover Keyboard when the keyboard is folded back under the device. I get about 2-3 extra hours of battery life in comparison to the original model, and it also runs a lot cooler. The speakers are louder and crisper on the Surface Pro 2 as well. The Surface Pro has caused me to use my MacBook Pro and iPad less than before. Coming from Mac OS, I thought Windows 8.1 would be confusing, but it's actually easier than I thought and it's a joy to use.

Great replacement laptop for work and fun

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I read a lot of reviews and people purchasing a surface pro 2 for apps, ereading, and toy style use. These are unfortunately uninformed buyers who do not understand that you are spending 900+ on a full functional pc/laptop replacement tablet not another ipad or android tablet. Yes, it would be nice if the windows store had more apps but I don't see a pro 2 living in that eco system. I utilize mine for school work with office 2013, home fun with browsing/movies, as well as PC games, not some cheap app. Again, make sure what you are spending your money on and do some research. If you want a toy, get an ipad or android tablet. If you want full functionality of a desktop with a tablet style utility, surface pro 2 is definitely the way to go. Id recommend a minimum of 128gb though.

The very best tool for hand written notes

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is the perfect tablet for anyone that wants to replace pen and paper with a digital solution. The wacom digitizer is very responsive and accurate. I spend a lot of time in meetings taking notes and interviewing to gather information. I can go through a lot of paper. This tablet has removed the need for paper and helped make my notes more organized and searchable. My initial intention was to just use this tablet as a replacement for pen and paper but I have found it has pretty much replaced my mac book pro for most things as well. To get the full benefit of this tablet, Office 2013 is pretty much a must. The combination of wacom digitizer and OneNote 2013 make this the best tool for handwritten notes. Besides taking notes it is very useful for reviewing/marking up documents, and images. You can easily load up a pdf and directly mark it up with many different pen choices. In my opinion the keyboard covers that are available for this tablet are not that good. I already had a Logitech K810 bluetooth keyboard and I think that keyboard feels and types much better that the two MS keyboards specifically built for this. I use this tablet as a pure slate 95% of the time anyway so I rarely try to use it as a laptop. My only real complaint with the tablet is the power supply. MS is trying to emulate the magnetic connectors found on mac books. The problem is they poorly designed it. On a mac book pro you pretty much just have to get the magnetic part of the cord near the laptop and the powerful magnet snaps it into place. Its easy to do without even looking. On the surface pro the magnetic part is narrow and long and has to be lined up just perfectly for the magnet to snap it in. Its pretty much impossible to connect it without looking. If you are using any type of case there needs to be about an inch of clearance around the connector or the case will make the connection loosey goosey. This tablet is actually a good companion to a MBP as it has the same mini display port connection for external displays. If you have a collection of mini display port adapters for your MBP they will work on this. The majority of my co-workers use Windows laptops but run around with iPads. There is some irony that I use a MBP but have augmented it with a windows tablet.

Purchased this from ebay, loved everything about SP2 but 128 GB SSD, 4GB RAM, wasnt enough space to replace entire replacement of my pc and my other laptop and back surface area is easy to scratch. . Thank you MS tho, I did sell my SP2, my other laptop, and my pc and got SP3 256GB SSD with 8GB RAM.

I didn't buy this as a replacement, but to augment my current 17" laptop. When traveling couldn't work on flights due to space, but with the Surface I can get the work done while I fly. Actually anywhere on my travel path I don't have to lug out the big boy, but just the Surface to get it done quick and easy. When on site it doesn't stop there since I flip it around, open One Note and use it to replace my paper notebook. I did find that using Excel and touch is not so easy and really need my mouse, wish it had 2 USB ports so I don't have to move files, then plug in mouse. I don't want to get the Bluetooth mouse, have my own I love. Some other little spots where mouse or pen is more handy than my fingers.

The only device you'll ever need

The Surface Pro 2 has everything the average computer user needs, and then some. With the available touch and type covers, the device becomes a high-powered production machine that can handle not only the full Microsoft Office suite, but the entire library of available legacy windows applications. Attach a USB or Bluetooth mouse, and take advantage of the powerful Intel 4400 on board graphics by playing some of the newest computer games on the market. (I'm currently enjoying the full touch functionality of Civilization 5.) Fold the cover back and enjoy your favorite film on Netflix while lounging on the couch. This one device has literally taken the place of three in my computing arsenal.

My husband got this for me as an anniversary present. It is amazing, from the moment I set it up it has been easy to use. There are many apps that you can download and since it is a computer as well you can use Microsoft office (I have Office 2013) which even allows you to use it with touchscreen. The battery life is amazing, I've used it nonstop and the battery has lasted me 3 days at a time. I would strongly recommend this to everyone, whether it is for school, work, or pleasure. The Surface Pro 2 is the best tablet in the market.

    WOW FACTOR!

After wasting my money on Ipad air I quickly realized the limitation of ios that it was geared for young kids so they can use short educational apps & for my mom who needs to check email, play candy crush and watch some you tubes. I own my own business & need to access & utilize paypal, adobe creative suite, godaddy web site builder, send and receive faxes, etc. Microsoft surface pro 2 does all that and soooo much more. I was blown away at what a pleasure it was to play my online games in full HD. I was also beyond impressed at the quality of art I could produce and how easy it was to use the digitizer pen to take notes. Watching videos on ipad was a joke because there are huge black lines surrounding them because you cant get movies on HD on iPAD, not being able to access microsoft word, go dadday could cost me my business. I just do not understand why the sales people do not take their time out to do demonstrations and give explanations on the huge differences between android and apple tablets (toys) and microsoft surface pro 2??????? Microsoft should just lay it out there in large print these huge differences so people quit wasting there money on junk like android and ipad.

I originally, purchased the RT model big mistake. It only lasted about 2 days and back to Best Buy it went... I then got the Surface Pro 2 64 GB and I had a lot of issues with speed and battery issues or just a lemon.... because i returned it and got the Surface Pro 2 128GB and this one is fabulous! So, far I'm very pleased with this system and its fast and appears to be having no issues. BEST BUY was great about allowing me to return the previous models and exchange up for a model that fits my needs, because i was within the exchange policy. The downside would be I paid more for the exchanges but truthfully, its worth it to have a tablet and work station all in one.

Good product, bad rep. Might not seem as sexy as an apple product, but it does everything I need it to do so it is . I use to carry a laptop and a tablet, but with this product I carry only this. Powers on from standby in 6 seconds. The pen is great for hand written notes. The detachable covers are now backlit so you work while watching tv in a dark room. Makes typing on a non standard surface easier. Don't let public perception sway you away from a great product.

    Excellent Laplet

First off, I'm an avid Apple user, everything I had was Apple until I switched over to Android phones and tablets because I was fed up with Apple's bland UI over the course of 7 years. Android was great, but memory optimization was horrible, programs would lag and my phone and tablet would start to freeze on certain programs because I had too many open. Recently, I had the chance to change out my Macbook Air 13 for my brother's new Surface Pro 2 and I must say I am extremely glad I did! Windows 8.1 surpasses my expectations in every aspect and the animations, 1080p videos and pictures are so crisp and fluid you would think it's running on a Mac OSX. Programs open immediately, even full windows programs, I am a photographer and I use lightroom CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS6 on it without any issues. I sometime play CS Source and Diablo 3 on my free time without any lag as well. I highly recommend this Laplet (my new name for Laptop/Tablets) and for anyone that are on the fence about Windows 8.1, do yourself a favor and give it a day or two to really understand the new OS, it will amaze you.
