I've been waiting a long time for someone to build a tablet that was more than just an over-sized smartphone...and the Surface Pro2 makes its competitors looks like toys by comparison. I was impressed from the very start by its incredible display - the best I have seen on any tablet yet produced. The detachable Surface Pro2 backlit keyboard (for an extra $129.95) is an absolute must-have.

Exchanged a horrible VAIO for this, greatly satisfied. Fulfills portability and light weight requirements. The best thing about it is the Windows is already the upgraded 8.1, and i could get all my files thru Skydrive. Tablet is easily converted to a laptop with a great keyboard and integral stand. Started using Office right away, and it's great! Touchscreen is awesome too.

Surface Pro 2 vs Asus transformer pad infinity tf700t. Strengths: Full version of Office Pro 2013, Visio, & Project work perfectly Powerful enough to run MicroStation and AutoCAD Prints to HP Laser Jet 5200 without downloading & installing drivers Weaknesses: Microsoft App store is still very limited. No Google Maps but Google Earth runs great. Worthless without a keyboard

Bought this product as a gift for my wife in December. After about a months use the product has been described as the best thing we've purchased. The screen is pressure-sensitive which is a necessity for anyone using this for art/drawing. The tablet itself is as powerful as a mid-range laptop. Makes saving space in a small house or apartment a snap. As far as video gaming - you can't do any high intensity graphic first person shooters but for the most part Sims/FFXIV/Warcraft all play incredibly well. Overall this was an awesome purchase.

Love this device, it is simply incredible!

I have been using this device for over two months and wanted to wait until I spent some time with it before writing a review. I will disclose my first device was defective. It constantly power cycled and had issues with the USB 3.0 port recognizing devices. However one call to MSFT and the customer service was outstanding! They communicated with BestBuy and it was an easy r/e (BestBuy's customer service was excellent as well!# and my new device has been flawless. This device helps me in the two areas most important to me. My work and my family. Anything that allows me to be more efficient in the two I am about. This device has become my go to device for my personal and professional life. Video/music editing it does well. Office 365 is flawless and I even play Diablo 3 off of it without a hitch #when I have time :/#. I love using it with a keyboard and mouse, but it does work incredible as a tablet too! I will admit I had to take it with me without the keyboard to get used to it as a tablet. Now I use it in tablet mode probably 60/40. You will definitely appreciate this device. It is a great consumption and #an incredible) productivity device that will do anything you could desire on a day to day basis. Loving my surface pro 2!

I got this device as an upgrade from the Surface RT and I don't regret it at all. I can do anything on this that I can do on a laptop or desktop. It is very portable and I can take it with me in my purse. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in school, especially online classes.

    Great for Business

I'm a realtor who needed a tablet to travel around with to answer my client and customer emails in a timely manner. I also needed a tablet that would allow me to install the company printers and share drive. I use office to send emails, and create presentations for my clients and customers. My company IT guy said that the tablet could not have windows RT so that limited some of the tablets on the market. ----------------- I have installed the following software: Microsoft Office Pro 2013 Adobe Company software Real Estate software Quickbooks ------------------ I did not purchase this tablet to watch movies, listen to music, play games

    Returning Mine

I really wanted to love this device because of the specs, but in the real world the usage is lacking. First off, the display looks great but you get to the desktop and the icons and task bar is really, really tiny if you leave the resolution in full 1080 which is recommended. It tries to give you an option for 150% magnification but that is still not enough, and I had to go to 200. Now if you try to play a video that is a 1080p, it of course is scaled off the screen and you have to resize the player. Next complaint is that most tablets are optimized for media consumption but not Microsoft, to play MKV's you have to get a third party solutions. The surface pro 2 does come with a video player with an Xbox dash board, but good luck getting it to play MKV. The other app media players have draw backs, even the paid ones from the Microsoft store are not touch optimized or have video setting you can change. Next I tried to read an e-book and of course the installed Microsoft e-reader won't open any e-pubs, or mobi's, or at least any that I already have on my computer. Then I read that at least the Surface Pro has a starter edition of Office already installed, but not the over priced Surface Pro 2. I can't wait to send this back and get a kindle Fire HDX and save 600 bucks, and actually have a tablet that's user friendly for watching videos and reading e-pubs. Hope you enjoy yours but mine is returning to Best Buy tomorrow.

    Perfect for students!

I absolutely love this device! I love that I have a tablet and a laptop together on one device! I can use Microsoft Office and play my favorite game apps all on one device. It is way simple to use and figure out and has many personalization options so you can use it how you want. My only two complaints are the battery life and the sound quality in the speakers is not the best, oh and when you are charging it there is no where to put the pen on the device, however, these aren't deal breakers. A great device for students who want something that is easy to take around campus and can do everything they need to do! I don't know how great it would be for businesses however. But I'm sure it would be at least good!

    Great hybrid, riddled with issues

This is by no means a bad tablet. Quite possibly, I received a defective unit, but in the short time I had the Surface Pro 2, it was certainly an aggravating and frustrating experience. Firstly, and the most frustrating issue of all, charging. The charging cable is magnetic and sometimes has issues landing neatly in what seemed a very precise charging port. Care had to be taken in order not to scratch the metal around the port, but alas, scratches were still made. Also, charging and plugged in, apparently, does not mean it's actually charging. Whilst my Pro 2 lay plugged in after some use on a given day, with the power notification indicating, "plugged in, charging," the device would, what seem to be, not charge. What I mean, is that if I plugged it in with say, 25% charge left, it would STAY AT 25% INDEFINITELY... Why this is so aggravating is that in the morning, when I unplug it and take it to work, as I so often did, I would never really know how much battery I would have left. What it seemed like to me, since the percentage would never move, was that I got very poor battery life, as typically I would get far less than the claimed nearly 8 hours, averaging probably 4 hours.. Though this didn't happen all the time, it happened far more than it should have, likely every other day or so. Shutting down and letting the Surface sit for 15 minutes or so before turning it back on seemed to fix the issue temporarily, but it would eventually do it again! Another nearly equal frustrating problem was the Surface waking itself randomly. While it is simply laying on my nightstand or sitting on a counter, the Surface would wake from sleep (and even possibly from hibernate, if it ever even hibernated in the first place!) and the screen would simply stay on. I believe that had a crippling affect on the battery life, as typically, when this happens, and it happened A LOT, like nearly every day, the unit would be very hot to the touch, sometimes fan roaring away, and my battery dipped from what was 100% (since I hadn't used it often times yet in the day) all the way to 50-70% WITH NO USE. From all the research I had done while I had this device, Microsoft states that only 3 out of 1000 users are affected by these problems and they were likely caused by a December 2013 update (which failed many times on my Surface until finally running a disk cleanup to erase update history). My problem with that is why release an update that has bugs, then make your consumer wait an unbearable amount of time before you release a fix for that update, if that was the case? To me, that is unacceptable and the fact stands that I paid over a thousand dollars for a machine that, despite all of the awesome specs, proved to be more hassle than it's worth.. FAR MORE hassle than anyone should ever put up with. Needless to say, I returned the unit. I will likely try the slightly higher priced Sony Flip 13, which also has a digitzer screen, 8gb of RAM instead of 4gb, 13" screen which is far easier on the eyes, but is also a ultrabook first (since it has a backlit keyboard, which costs Pro 2 users another $149.99 for the Type Cover 2).

Just like many other Microsoft products, the second time around (surface 2) Is Awesome. A lot better performance, durability, reliability, and overall look. I mostly love the portability of the device combined with it performance and computing power.

So I was really shooting to get the 256GB model but they are impossible to find so I decided to save a couple hundred and go with this version. So far I love it! I checked the internals and see I got one of the "new" versions with the fast CPU 4300 i5 clocked several hundred MHz faster than the originally released SP2. VERY PLEASED! Setup was amazingly easy since I already had a windows 8 machine running/microsoft account. I literally chose the color I liked, put in my account info and BOOM it knew and setup everything! Very impressive. The app store needs more apps but I think we all know that... And they will come.

I just bought mine yesterday. Played with it for a few hours after I get her set up.I changed it to power saver mode and this morning I have had nothing but problems with it starting and running even windows. Desktop would crash over and over. After I got it back to balanced mode it worked great. So as long as you keep it in balance or high performance this will be the best tablet ever.

I bought this as a desktop replacement. I like that it runs full Windows and it works just like a regular desktop I can use with my external monitor, keyboard and mouse with the docking station. Using the touch interface makes Windows 8.1 much easier to figure out than with a traditional computer.
