Great laptop, only downside is the keyboard.. dont care for the small trackpad

I have owned the Surface Pro 3 for around 3 years so I can compare. While the wow factor is gone for me, I'm still very exciting about how far this device has evolved. The obvious thing out of the box is the new black color. The matt black finish is very fine looking and doesn't pick up fingerprints easily. It is slightly rough to the touch which provides a nicer grip. The rounded edges and corners make it feel better in the hand. The second thing I noticed is performance. With the 8th generation processor doubling the cores, and a faster SSD, the performance is noticeably faster in most operations. Astonishingly this happens all while the device feels cool to the touch. The surface pro 3 always felt warm, even when it didn't seem to be doing anything. Normal use doesn't heat the device up. The warmest it got was when I was doing all of the upgrades, but I never once heard fan noise, I'm not sure the i5 version even has a fan. The SP3 fan would come on often. Windows Hello (facial sign-on) works excellent. It is so fast that it isn't annoying. I did the facial test with my glasses and it works fine. Then it wasn't working without my glasses. There is a way to give it more training and after that it works with or without my glasses. Powering on the device never seems slow. Sometimes on the SP3 pressing the power button would take a few seconds before anything appeared on the screen - making me wonder if it was working. The SP6 shows a windows logo immediately, even on a cold boot. A cold boot takes around 15 seconds to see the desktop. That includes the facial recognition part. Warm turn on until you see the desktop in a second or two. I also setup my fingerprint reader from the Keyboard I got with the SP3. It works perfectly! I have never had it not work with the Surface Pro 6, but it often wouldn't work with the SP3. I would have to detach, reattach sometimes to get it to work on SP3. I feel like I'm finally getting to benefit from my fingerprint keyboard. All this time I thought the keyboard wasn't reliable, but now it looks like it was just the SP3 didn't work as well with it. Inking is more responsive and natural. The Whiteboard app is very nice, and even works well with finger input. I haven't tried the pen yet. Bluetooth appears to work better with my headphones, and is faster to connect. It works better with my headphones than the SP3. Bezels have been shrunk slightly from the SP3 by dropping the windows key from the right side of the screen, they were able to thin out the bezels. But since this can be used like a tablet having some bezels is necessary for that use case. Overall the feel of this device over the SP3 is very noticeable. They have had years to perfect this design, and I believe they have achieved that. I get to reuse all of my peripherals such as docking station, keyboards, pen, and power supplies. This is what I like to see from a company, a constant pursuit of perfection in a device, and I think they have come close to achieving that. Suggestions: Battery life is good, but can always be better. More advanced change I would like to see is dynamically adjusted bezels - when keyboard is attached in normal use have the screen go to the edges, but when in tablet mode the bezels appear. That way you can get benefit of larger screen area in laptop mode, and the bezels you need for tablet mode. I would also like to see much more attention paid to refining the tablet mode experience - hopefully I'll get that benefit during the time I own this product.

Ran good but I did not care for the kick stand. Not very stable.

The charger gives trouble all the time. Hence, I can not trust my Surface Pro 6 in any situation like class, presentation or live streaming. I have no idea where to get a replacement for the charger or the best alternative to this charger. They should provide the customers with good, steady and reliable chargers or and alternative one.

Within two weeks of using it, it would power off without the power cord being plugged in. Plugging it in with the power cord was the only way to power up the device. I had to take it in and it was sent back to Microsoft and had to be without the ability to use it for two weeks. It may just be a fluke, but this is my experience so far....

My battery will not charge. Took it to the Geek Squad and they said I had to call Microsoft. After 2.5+ hours on the phone I was told that I was out of luck and had to purchase a new laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I need to return the surface pro 6 as the battery would not charge. I tried all of the steps recommended by Microsoft support as well as what I found online, but none of them worked.

Best laptop I've ever owned. Very fast and great with multitasking. Battery life is awesome!

This is not an efficient device, it sleeps all the time and it will really be hard to open back up again! I had to by another device to finish up my work. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Laptop was not operating. Under geek service agreement it was determined laptop was not repairable and needed to be replaced. Geek service was awesome. Replaced without any hassle. New laptop purchased and back in business!

very difficult to use touch pad. inaccurate touch. Screen touch s just as bad!!!!! Get an ipad== so much better engineered tablet!

I’ll start by saying I’m a true Mac lover. I’ve owned Macs since Moby Dick was a minnow and I do love them. And with that, I was very reluctant to invest in the Surface Pro 6. I needed something that was portable and functional. I didn’t want a laptop. I got the new 12.9 iPad Pro and took it on a business trip. And I found myself not being able to use it to the level I needed. Sure, I could use Word and Excel, but on iOS, it just isn’t efficient. So...I returned the iPad Pro and got the Surface Pro 6. Now, don’t get me wrong, the iPad Pro is a beautiful machine. But, like the Surface Pro 6, it has its purpose. So what I did was purchase the 10.5 iPad Pro (on sale and $575 less than the 12.9 I returned) for consumption, which it’s perfect for (writing this on the iPad Pro) and I am using the Surface Pro 6 for business. I did get the dock, Pen, keyboard and Arc mouse. And I love it. It’s a fantastic unit. Made very well. Looks great. Great size. Pen works very nicely. Although, just not quite as nicely as the Apple Pencil. But still, works great. Overall, great product and I’m glad I got it. Like I said earlier, everything has it’s place and purpose. It doesn’t have to be iPad OR Surface. For me, it’s iPad AND Surface and I’m all set. Nice work Microsoft. Now lets get the operating system a little better and the display just a little nicer and you’ll get the full 5 stars.

Laptop initially functioned properly but then after about a day it stopped working properly.

I upgraded from the Surface 3, and I am very impressed with the excellent response time and speed of this Pro 6. The colors/display is beautiful. There is no lag between programs, opening and closing.. I'm very pleased with my purchase. My only complaint, well not really a complaint, maybe preference.. My regular Surface 3 came with Windows Pro, The pro 6 came with Windows Home version. It's not a big deal, functions the same, just would prefer Pro. So far I've had no issues at all, everything is beautiful, love the keyboard, can't have a Surface without a keyboard :) I'm basically doing my happy dance... I love it.. and Best Buy has amazing customer service...So thank you Microsoft, I'm pretty sure you've mastered the art of the Surface Pro... and Thank you Best Buy for all your help..

I owned this for almost 5 years. This is a very well done product, still works, did its job for those years. Quality was beyond expectations.

One of my best purchases.Still working,and I haven't learned everything about it.But it will do just about everything I need for what ever business Idea I come up with.
