The Microsoft - Surface Pro - Copilot+ PC - 13” - Snapdragon X Plus - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Device Only (11th Edition) - Black is a fast, sleek, lightweight and compact all-day mobile PC. This is the latest iteration of the Microsoft Surface line of devices. I'm currently still using my Surface Pro 4 from quite a few years ago now and it still performs great, so I'm expecting this 11th edition of the Surface Pro line will last me well into the future. The most noted change with this iteration of the Surface Pro line is the switch from Intel CPU to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X series CPU/GPU/NPU line of processors which is a major shift for Microsoft and the industry in general with the new CoPilot+ PC's. The device is super lightweight and thin. It's solid, well-built and has a premium feel to is with the metal case similar to previous Surface Pro's. The integration of the detachable keyboard that magnetically attaches to the device with the signature "snap" is second to none. Easy to detach when needed to have a truly tablet experience or quickly snap back onto the device for when a keyboard and trackpad are preferred. This latest keyboard houses a stylus pen that fits into a little magnetic slot at the top of the keyboard and hides away when not needed. The pen feels comfortable to use and fits perfectly in the writing hand even with it's flatter design. It would be nice if Microsoft included the keyboard with the device as it's a pretty essential piece in the Surface experience. The keyboard is backlit and feels comfortable to type on. The keys have a nice tactile feel to them for such a thin keyboard. The trackpad is smooth and responsive. Not quite as large as on some 13 inch devices I've seen, but a decent size. The keyboard is powered by the Surface device so it has to be attached to use it. It magnetically snaps into an inclined position or can lay flat if desired to access the pen slot. It also provides screen protection in the closed mode. Setup of the device was pretty standard Windows 11 setup. Very easy and smooth initial setup and installing of the most recent updates. There are quite a few updates but the entire setup / update process only takes about 30 minutes with a broadband connection. With the 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD combined with the Snapdragon X Plus CPU Windows 11 runs very smoothly as well as any application I threw at it from browsing the web, running Office applications, CoPilot+ AI features and even some 3D gaming with the Qualcomm Adreno GPU! I know this isn't a device one would normally associate with gaming, but the Qualcomm Adreno integrated GPU actually handles some games like Tomb Raider, Terraria, Control, Diablo 4 at playable rates so that is a really nice bonus for this ultra-portable take everywhere device. Some games do not like the non-Intel CPU but it seems the majority that I tried were OK with it and ran just fine. With the ultra-high resolution of the 13" display sometimes you need to mess with the display options in the game settings, but once those are dialed in things actually ran pretty smoothly. Quite impressive for such a thin device! The 13" PixelSense Flow touchscreen display sports a resolution of 2880 x 1920 and looks very sharp and has plenty of brightness levels for low or high light conditions. The all-glass design will have some ambient reflections in brighter conditions, but that can be compensated for by increasing the display brightness. As a touchscreen it's responsive and smooth. The Surface Pen interacts with the screen smoothly and is great for drawing and interacting with applications. The device comes with the traditional Surface Pro charging cord and power brick which is small and makes charging quick without adding much weight to the overall space needed when carrying the device. I was able to also charge with my older Surface Pro charger but it was slower charging than the new brick. I did not try this but it apparently charges with a standard USB-C charger albeit at a slower rate depending on the power of the USB-C charger. Nice to have the option if you leave the proprietary charger at home. The device has a little magnetic trapdoor on the back that provides access to the 512 GB SSD which is nice if you want to upgrade that at some point. There aren't many other ports on the device other than 2 USB-C 4 ports on the left and the proprietary MS charging port on the right. It has built-in WiFi 7 and Bluetooth and can drive up to 3 4K monitors, which is impressive! The signature foldable flap feels solid and allows the device to be positioned at just a slight incline above a surface to more upright angles and then tucks away flat into the device when not needed. The new CoPilot+ AI Features are interesting to use with the integrated NPU. From image manipulation and creation using AI prompts to camera effects to audio language translation in real-time it feels like you have an always there assistant ready to help you when you need it. Quickly sketching up a line drawing with the Surface pen in Paint and then using prompts to generate a professional looking image is super handy! Battery life seems really good with an hour of full screen movie watching on medium brightness using about 10% battery per hour. Using power-saving mode would extend that even further. The audio quality is really good for such a thin and lightweight device! Plenty of volume and clarity. Overall I'm super excited to have this new 11th generation Surface Pro in my hands and can retire my Surface Pro 4. This new Surface with the Snapdragon processor and NPU seems well positioned to take me years into the future as Microsoft and the industry continue to use and extend AI capabilities into applications and Windows. Highly recommend the Surface Pro devices and this new one is no exception to that!
