I had the first version of the Surface Pro 2. The pen didn't perform well. I upgraded to the Surface Pro 3, but the problem is that it requires an AAAA battery, which is difficult to find and expensive. I purchased a rechargeable version, which is far better. Finally I upgraded to the Surface Studio, the new pen is by far the best thing Microsoft came up with.

The tip fell off the first week. It plugs in with a micro banana plug.
Microsoft does not offer a replacement tips. You actually have to buy a new pen due to poor design.
Between the cost of the pen and charger, I'm at a loss of over 200 bucks. Use your finger instead.
Half as good as the Apple pencil, but good enough.

tl:dr; despite the flaws, the Slim Pen 2 makes drawing on a Surface Pro accurate and smooth, and allowed be to ditch my iPad/Pencil for daily sketching & writing.
---
Ergonomically it's mediocre. The (single) button is placed too far aft of the tip, requiring either an odd thumb position or re-positioning your thumb every time you write. The cap as an eraser, as always is very natural and, though inaccurate, works well. The cap button is a little wiggly (poor fit on both slim pens I have). The flat shape is not as comfortable as a round or hexagonal writing tool.
The lack of a charger included with this $130 pen is, imho, inexcusable. Not all of us want or have typecovers in the field and $50 for a separate charger is highway robbery.
The performance of the pen is head and shoulders above the old nTrig pens. The lines are clean and the pressure sensitivity is good and, most importantly, the jagged diagonal lines are finally gone. The writing performance is on par with the Apple Pencil *except* that there is still substantial (100+ms) lag. When writing text at my normal pace, the Apple pencil has maybe 1/4 character lag; with the Surface Slim Pen 2 I'm already writing a second character before the first character shows up on the screen. It's not terrible and you can get used to it, but I recently had to go back to my iPad for a few days. The Pencil's lack of lag and more traditional round shape is far superior, though the Slim Pen's use of button/cap for functions is far superior to the (finnicky) double-tap the Pencil employs.

Wow! Put off by the price tag I waited 2years to "upgrade" to the surface slim pen 2...I wish I had made the purchase a long time ago. As Chemistry and Physics teacher being able to write on the screen is imperative. I like the previous version of the surface pen, the screen clipping and erase features were awesome,...but I chewed through tips, battery's die, and there was less writing responsiveness if used for a prolonged period of time.
The surface pen 2 has worked through these glitches, kept the screen clip capabilities, and increased precision
writing. Now I get the fluidity that parallels apple pens and the functionality and interface with screen-castify and other software applications in the Microsoft world. Also, the new pen is flat, so it actually stays connected to the computer and charges at the same time; reducing misplacement of the pen and ensuring it is always available to write with when I want to use it. I highly recommend this product.

Purchased in Good Faith
Both the Surface Laptop Studio and the Surface Pro 8 have been compatible with this pen during my testing. The pen is charged by both of them. Although I was concerned that the pen would not adhere to the Surface Laptop Studio very well, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it does so MUCH better than I had anticipated it would. It is not going to break under normal circumstances.
Accuracy. To a large extent, this is why one would purchase a surface pen. It is spot on in every respect. It also allows you to draw and write with it. Since I am not an artist, that is not something I can comment on, but I do use it to draw diagrams and sketches for my work in the office. That is a fantastic use for it. In addition to this, Surface is capable of accurately recognizing handwriting and converting it to text.
Ease of operation Because I have only used this product with two Surface Laptops, the only thing I can comment on is how simple it is to use. It is very simple to put into use. On both of my Surface laptops, it has been detected and has automatically set itself up. Without any bother. It comes with a quick introduction (that you can skip). When you press the button on the back of the pen, the white board will unfold. You are able to let other people use your whiteboard

Great writing experience. I heard people calling it flimsy, especially compared to the Apple pencil. I never used the Apple Pencil, so I will not compare l. But- I would not call it flimsy. Personally, I enjoy the weight, ease of use, and utility behind every design choice made here.
Would recommend even if you do not draw. Just using it in Microsoft Word to draw in your notes or use as a highlighter adds a lot of value.
Can be added to your work flow with 0 learning curves.

The one thing i hate is no one told me I needed a charger to use the pen. In order to use it out the box, the charger needs wake the pen up. Otherwise you just have plastic. Its not on the box, and the people at bestbuy didnt know or just didnt tell. If you are getting the newer version of the Surface Pro then you wont have this issue. Seven and below needs the charger. Other than that I love the pen.

the pen was in perfect condition and works just as well as my original! it was easy to pair, came with all of the original packaging, and made my life so much easier after losing the first one.

Although surface pen became a bit more expensive, it finds much better quality and convenience in usage. In particular, Surface Slim Pen 2 looks like a great companion with Surface Laptop Studio.

I love the slim pen-when I got my first one I was a little concerned about the shape but it's perfect. I had the choice of buying a USB charger or the Surface keyboard with the charger tray, and I highly recommend the keyboard option. I am forever dropping the pens from my original Surfaces.
Being able t launch a notetaking app (or your choice of frequently used app) with a single click of the button is a very useful feature that I find myself becoming more and more dependent on.

The Surface Pro Pen has truly revolutionized my digital art and note-taking experience. It's a sleek, well-designed stylus that feels comfortable in the hand, mimicking the feel of a traditional pen. The pressure sensitivity is impressive, offering 4096 levels of pressure, which makes for a very natural writing and drawing experience.
The tilt functionality is a great addition, allowing for shading and more nuanced strokes, just like a real pencil. The button on the side is a handy shortcut for erasing or right-clicking, and the top button can be customized to open your favorite apps.
The pen pairs seamlessly with the Surface Pro, and the palm rejection technology works flawlessly, ensuring that you can rest your hand on the screen without making unwanted marks.
However, there are a couple of areas where there's room for improvement. The battery life, while decent, could be better. Also, the pen occasionally experiences some latency, which can be a bit frustrating when you're in the middle of a detailed piece of work.
Despite these minor issues, the Surface Pro Pen is a fantastic tool for any digital artist or note-taker. It's a bit of an investment, but in my opinion, it's worth every penny for the functionality and convenience it offers.
