The rubber bumper protects the watch from nicks and scrapes. Consider using if wearing gloves or other activities where your wrist is knocking or rubbing on other surfaces. Its is pretty slim and offers minimal protection while not distracting from tasks. The plus is that you cannot remove the bumpers with out removing the straps so you can count on the bumbers not flipping off like some more expensive options.
