Good capable device... setup can be tedious

I bought this to replace an Arris SBG6580-2 that had issues with frequent resets and lockups (apparently not uncommon according to reviews) after a few months in service. The Motorola MG7550 is designed in large part by Zoom, and I've had good results with Motorola/Zoom products in the past... and the reviews of the MG7550 gave no reason to think otherwise of this unit. I'm familiar with programming home routers, including features like WiFi MAC access lists, port forwarding, firewall rules, DDNS, and DHCP address reservations. I had all of the necessary information on hand, and I thought getting the MG7550 set-up would be a relatively quick process. The user interface was easy enough to navigate, with on-screen contextual help available for just about every item. Getting the modem activated with Comcast/Xfinity was a quick online process. I then started to program the MG7550's features... and that's where things started to get dicey. Although I was finally able to get everything working properly after several hours (I learned to back up the configuration after each significant change was finally successful), I experienced many inexplicable quirks in the user interface that made what should have been a straightforward process pretty painful. For example, when making entries for DHCP address reservations, all entries except one would enter properly but that one particular entry would cause the DHCP server to switch itself to "disabled" (with the only apparent recovery being a factory reset "start over"... hence the frequent backups through the process). Finally only changing the name of the device I was trying to enter for a DHCP reservation allowed the process to complete. Also, my DDNS entry reported that the DDNS provider was unreachable until, after one of many times cycling the DDNS feature off and back on again, it decided to suddenly work. My guess is that this all reveals a "not ready for prime time" graphical interface behind which is a pretty solid machine. At the end of the day, the MG7550 is working well, with good WiFi coverage for a unit with integrated antennas. The WiFi scanner is a very helpful tool in selecting WiFi channels/bandwidths. Hopefully some updates are forthcoming that will improve the usability of the programming interface... the bad news is with this being a modem/router combo, you're at the mercy of your cable provider as to if or when you'll receive any available updates.

I don't normally write reviews, but had to this time. Bought MG7550 based on previous reviews. Netgear didn't work well with my wife's work computer VPN. But it worked with this Motorola MG7550 modem router with NO problem. Activation with spectrum was no problem. If mama is happy, papa is happy! Love it!

Defective or doesn't work with Orbitel?

After about 3 hours of changing settings and several phone calls to both my ISP and Motorola help lines I can only say that either my unit was defective out of the box or this doesn't work with Orbitel. Hard to say which, because every person I spoke with said the specs are fine and no one sees any issues anywhere. 1 person I spoke to at Orbitel said he's familiar with this model and knows it should work. The last guy at Motorola dismissed the fact when I said "could I have got a defective unit?" He said not likely and it's my ISP. So here I go 50 mile round trip to exchange this, probably for another brand. Primarily made this review so folks with Orbitel would know it may not work for them. I gave it 3 stars based on thier customer service only.

    Connected without Comcast help

Had another Motorola, call Comcast, no help from their technician. Honestly I asked for another technician and she got insulted and said she has been doing this for years. So I packed up the modem and returned it to Amazon. I figured I'd give it another try and went to Best Buy and bought this one which was just a little bit more money than the one from Amazon. while I was there I was being told it would cost me $50 to hook it up and 150 if I wanted to connect all my wireless devices. I told them I will take my chances and try it myself. Connected the coax cable and the plug. Also connected an Ethernet plug to the modem and one to my laptop. This enabled me to go on the Motorola. Com page, once I did that my Xfinity page showed up and I logged in with my phone. Then once connected, about 10 min, I used the pW for the modem and proceeded to connect all my devices individually. I wanted to put up this review because everyone else was very confusing to me.

We always borrowed from Xfinity but we wanted to try and buy one of our own and we have had no trouble at all with this modem. We definitely would recommend it.

    Motorola-Duel-Band AC1900 for the win!

The Motorola-Dual-Band router with modem was simply to set up. The cost of purchase outweighs the fee I was paying to use the cable companies. Too bad I hadn’t done this sooner!

I replaced the modem/router the cable company gave me with this. With my previous modem we were getting 8mbps and now that we have this router we are getting 117mbps(our plan is for 100) We are extremely happy with this product. Set up was easy.

Owned for 4 months. Had to power cycle 3 times because the wifi was out. Speed is great. Today Alexa was on the wifi. But nothing else. Had good luck with Motorola in the past but not this one.
