Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the Moto G Plus (5th Gen) for its affordability, especially during the holiday season. They are also impressed with the camera quality and the excellent battery life. The phone's storage capacity and unlocked status are also well-received. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the lack of NFC, which limits the use of Android Pay, and the speaker volume, which they find inadequate.

There has been a microphone issue for months and thousands of us have been waiting for a patch. This hasn't happened so phone has to physically be sent back for repair. I do NOT recommend this phone.

Salesperson ruined my old phone when they put the SIM card back in. Can only be used like a tablet now. Can't call or text. Probably won't come back. NOT HAPPY!

      Hi Wanda,

We usually do some troubleshooting steps to figure out the cause of what our users are experiencing. You may try rebooting the device, check if Bluetooth Scanning is off. To check, go to Settings> Location> tap 3 dots> Scanning> turn off Bluetooth Scanning if it on and see if that would help. Can you be more specific on what's happening with your Wifi?

I've had this phone for a couple months now, and I must say I love this phone and here's why. 1st I have T-MOBILE and was sick of (payment) plans for phones. Last had a Lg that crashed a little over a year from a update the caused bootloop that they where aware about. Happened to many customers from what I read. Long story short they couldn't help because phone was out of warranty and only choice was a newer phone. So I went the unlocked route, instead of the payment one which I'm still paying on for a broken phone. But anyway I popped the T-Mobile SIM into this and never looked back. 4G LTE works perfectly with this unlocked phone. And this phone hangs right there with phones that cost twice as much. Moto doesn't really promote this phone as waterproof but it is water resistant. And works perfect in wet/rainy conditions . Battery is the best in any phone that I've owned. Went camping for 3 days, everyone one else was looking to charge their phone after 1night and I had 80%. Last day still had 4 days left said the indicator at 45%. Fast charger is 2nd to none. Amazing fast and it holds battery. 1080 screen is clear and crisp. The only gripe I have with this phone is the camera. Supposed to compare with S7 but it falls short compared to that. Video quality is better then still pics as it records in 4k for Tv playback which is nice. Fingerprint sensor works great and is a nice touch at this price point, as well is 4gigs of ram and 64g of storage. I recommend getting geek squad protection as well for the price you can't beat it and it even covers one replacement battery if current one fails.. Wow and it's not an additional $10/15 on a month from a provider. I could say more but my final thought is you'd be hard pressed to find a better phone at the price point anywhere.. And it's runs Android 7.0 out of the box seemlessly no matter how many background apps are running.. Moto has won me back!!

as of 11/9/17 the p[hone is all the way down to $225 which is a steal. A 64gig (4gig of ram) smart phone with a premium feel is a steal. There is a newer "S" model of this phone but if you are going to get a 64gig g5 Plus stick with this one as it is cheaper and the new camera is not a big improvement (and that is the main change other than slightly bigger screen and a slight design change).

I bought this phone as a cheap phone to carry at work. I'd rather be out a $300 phone than a $1400 flagship phone. I can honestly say, I'm pretty impressed with the battery life, display, and speed of this phone. The build quality is excellent, though just because it says Gorilla Glass 3, doesn't mean the screen is not fragile. While I've not broken mine, a friend's fell about 5 inches from his pocket on to the concrete, as he bent over, and the screen cracked. Buy a case and screen guard. What dissapoints me about the phone, however, is the lack of MHL and HDMI output. When buying, I was told the phone did support MHL by Best Buy staff; it doesn't. I wanted to be able to connect this phone to my vehicles head unit via MHL to HDMI adapter and expressed this when purchasing. Motorola isn't really at fault here as the specs do not indicate MHL support on the product page. This was an impulse buy due to the sale and the complete lack of features in the ASUS phone I was going to buy. There is no bloatware on these phones, which is extremely nice. It comes with the necessary Moto App that allows you to set up additional functions of the fingerprint reader and that's about it. It also supports Adopted Storage, which often gets a bum rap. If you buy a high speed micro SD card, like the Samsung EVO line of SD cards, you won't notice any slow downs unless you're downloading AND trying to run an app that needs constant disk reads. This is a rare occurrence and the 64GB version here is far better than the 32GB version selling at a lower cost. This 64GB phone not only has twice the storage but also 4 GB of RAM, so this helps increase battery life and performance. The bottom line here is, if you want a great looking and functioning phone, without a contract, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal or a better phone.

I purchased this phone at Best Buy store on 4/09. Had it activated at Verizon corporate store on Monday-literally took the man 10 minutes and I was out the door with everything working great! Excellent battery life I left everything on(sync,Bluetooth, data, brightness at half)streamed music at work for 8 hrs, surfed internet(including videos) about 4 hrs,a few calls and texts, and still had over 30 percent battery at 10pm(started at 6am)! Great screen, snappy performance, love the Moto functions especially the twist for camera! The fingerprint scanner has worked flawlessly- I set mine up for both thumbs and 1 index finger and set scanner to replace on screen buttons-what a great idea! The camera is good- I'd say above average. Call quality is very good as is signal strength- both data and call. Bluetooth works perfect- hooked right up to my Chevy truck and my headphones. In my opinion, anyone looking for a smartphone for 300 bucks and under should absolutely check this phone out!

Best purchase I have ever made from Best Buy! I got an awesome deal on this phone on Black Friday. This phone was the one to finally deliver everything I wanted at a price point I could afford! Unlocked, great price, and a quality phone! Since the phone is paid for, I only spend $35/mo for 5GB of data from a discount carrier. I wait until I have WiFi access before I start streaming music and videos and finish the month with data to spare. Here are the accessories I purchased and am very happy with: - Spigen Rugged Armor Moto G5 Plus Case Light, thin, but rugged and gets the job done. Well designed. -Moto G5 Plus Screen Protector, [2 Pack] OMOTON Tempered Glass Screen Protector.. This practically installs itself if you watch a YouTube tutorial and read the instructions. When you apply it, you can actually watch the air bubbles get squeezed out. The remaining tiny ones are very easily removed. Combining this with the case practically makes your phone "bullet proof"! -SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC UHS-3 Card More memory is good! I will see over time if I need to get more memory like a 128GB micro Sim card. - Google Chromecast:: I'm a HUGE fan of YouTube! Watching videos on your TV is like seeing them for the 1st time! Only about $35. Much more relaxing to kick back on the couch and enjoy videos than hunch over a laptop, etc. Awesome video quality! -IPOW CD phone mount for my car. Very nicely designed and allows me to keep the phone safe while using GPS apps to navigate.

So far so good for our first Smart phone

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is our first smart phone. We didn't want to splurge on an expensive phone. Based on the recommendations for this phone on several websites, we decided to give it a try. We especially liked that it was a 64GB model, and an unlocked model that could be used with multiple carrierers and in other countries with a proper SIM card. After living with a 16 GB tablet, we knew we needed more storage than that. So far all is mostly well. We are happy with the ease of use, the sound quality, how long the battery lasts, and the way it easily paired to the bluetooth devices we own. It works great in our Ford Escape. It was easy to set it up. The only "issue" we are having is the blue tooth disables itself when you shut the phone off. Since this is our first smart phone, it isn't a big issue for us, but according to both many bloggers and Motorola, this should not be happening. Motorola support gave me a list of instructions to try to correct the problem, but so far we haven't attempted to fix the issue. My DH is afraid if we try to fix this issue, we may cause another problem. He doesn't mind reconnecting to bluetooth after turning the phone back on. I would like it to work like is is supposed to. Other than having to reconnect to bluetooth after turinng off the phone, we have not found any real issues with this phone so far. We are very pleased and hope it lasts many years.

A phone similar to the HTC M9 below half the price

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Gone are the days where you need spend $750 for a top of the line phone. Granted the HTC M9 came out over a year ago. So in that sense it is not a fair comparison. Yes the HTC M9 has NFC, which this phone does not. But beyond that, pretty similar. Same screen resolution. 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB. The camera on the M9 is more MP but the overall quality of the cameras is similar. The point I'm trying to make is that waiting nearly 2 years gives you a very comparable phone at below half the cost. The Moto G5 Plus runs smoothly and has a sharp looking screen. This phone would have been among the top of the line in 2015. And it is not priced anywhere close to top of the line. Great value for a very good phone.

    Luv My Phone!

So I am going from an old Galaxy 4 - which only gave me a half day of battery life a day. I've been holding on to it not wanting to spend the $ on a new phone but it kept going black on me, etc. After reading about this unlocked Motorola I decided I had nothing to lose. I AM SO HAPPY I DID! I just needed a phone for calls, checking email, surfing internet - I'm older and not obsessed with snap chatting or anything. This phone is fantastic. I go all day and still have another day of battery life left. The phone was so easy to figure out. I love the thumbprint touch to log in, I love just a gentle swipe right or left on the bottom button to get me where I need to go. Setting up the phone was completely intuitive - I figured out most everything. I went to my carrier to transfer my text messages and contacts off my phone. They were all freaking out over my Motorola - this is really cool. I luv not having all the bloat apps which I never used stuck on my phone. I can't believe this was under $300. I am very happy with reception/calling/volume. It's been a couple of weeks and I have no problems thus far. Would highly recommend.

    Best Mid-range Phone

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you want the best performance for your dollar, you won't be disappointed. The Snapdragon 625 is plenty fast enough, and the 4GB RAM backing it means this phone can handle almost anything you throw at it. Call volume and clarity are excellent. Battery life is as great as anything powered by the 625 and its battery-efficient dark magic. You do have to accept some compromises, such as going without NFC and dealing with a pretty weak speaker, but you'll find everything else makes the total package an excellent bargain. The phone runs near stock Android, so the OS is a pleasure to use. No frustrating, top-heavy manufacturer overlay! Moto actions are legitimately useful. The camera is acceptable, and the 1080p screen does look a little washed out, but these are minor quibbles compared to what the device offers for the asking price. You won't be disappointed with this, unless you're truly looking for the latest and greatest.

I've bought my Motto G5 Plus 64 GB on Friday the 24th, and in my opinion its great improvement from the Moto G4 Plus 64 GB as it does not heat up and the updated fingerprint sensor is an improvement. The screen is smaller, but I can live with it. I would recommend this phone to my family and friends that do not want to spend big bucks on a cell phone and get a good one for $299 which I believe is worth it.
