    Good Vacuum, with some limitations.

Pros: - Good Vacuum Power and Battery Life - Ability to Customize Paths in Your App - Easy Clean Up Process Cons: - No Side Brushes for corners. - Limited to One Mapped Layout - Wifi Pairing Took Multiple Tries Bottom Line : Decent Vacuum for cleaning up dog hair and dust off the floor but the Roomba style vacuums still aren't good enough to replace a full size vacuum. The Neato D4 vacuum is kind of a toss up for me to be honest. The roomba style vacuums always promise to have this "state of the art" technology that learns your room and can avoid many obstacles but they really don't seem to be able to still replace a full size vacuum. Initial Setup: The Neato D4 is a sleek looking unit. Out of the box the charger base and cords are simple enough to setup, where I had issues was pairing it with the app. I am a pretty technologically sound person so I followed the instructions to pair it to my phone. Every time I did what the video said and pressed the bumper and waited for it to cycle and then tried to choose it on my phone. When I chose it on my phone it would kick me right off and not allow the pairing process to continue. It took me about 12 tries to finally connect it properly. Which to me is kind of a pain. Once connected I was able to designate areas that I didn't want it to clean which is a nice touch compared to other models Ive used. The one thing I did not like though is that you can only choose one floor layout for it to remember. The D6 models allows multiple layouts so that might be something you should consider if you want to use the vacuum in multiple areas. Usage: The vacuum itself on my first run picked up a lot of stray dog hair and dust on the floor. The cleanup is easy and quick. but it never really seemed to go in any kind of real pattern. It would go out about 10 feet start making turns and not really go in any real order, which left certain areas unclean. It's gotten better as time goes on but still doesn't clean everything 100% the way it should. The vacuum transitions well from carpet to wood floors and has enough battery life to do a majority of the downstairs area. The thing I feel like with these Roomba style vacuums is that they don't really pick up everything and they never really "learn" anything. My vacuum still kinda goes all over the place and I still run my Dyson afterwards and pick up a decent amount of dust and debris. I think what these vacuums are good for is basically doing a daily sweep of the floor to get dust and dog hair so you don't feel the dirt on your feet everyday. Especially good for tile or wood floors. But you still in the end need a regular home vacuum. I recommend this product still because its one of the better roomba style vacuums i've used. But I feel like these type of vacuums have a LONG way to go before they can replace a full size home vacuum.

It was a dud. I ended up returning it. The vacuum never charged. Went through all the tricks with Neato support and nothing worked. Unfortunately I was looking forward to using this vacuum. I liked the advertised features. Most of the reviews I read for Neato vacs are really good or really bad. I think if you get a good one they will probably work great. There may be a lack of quality controls at the factory.

The machine is not good, after one week right wheel stopped working. I was busy so the return timeframe allowed by Best Buy ( simply ridiculous) was gone, tried to talk with customer service but they simply repeated like parrots ... sorry, sorry, sorry... so had to go to Neato and go through the return process. A waste of time, and we'll see how it ends. Bye Bye Best Buy, never again.

While this is my first time owning one of the Neato Botvac products, I have been using a competitor’s product for years. The Neato Botvac D4 is a nice implementation. It has an app for your phone that you’ll use to configure how you want it to work for you. It has an Eco mode and a Turbo mode, with Turbo offering a more aggressive cleaning effort. The Eco mode is quieter than the Turbo mode, plus uses less battery allowing it to clean without stopping for longer periods of time. The phone app allows you to select the days it will run and the time of day. It’s very versatile and allows a different start time for different days. Just set up a unique profile specifying Eco or Turbo mode, and the start time for that specific profile. For example, on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, I have the unit start at 11:30am in Eco mode. On Thursdays, it starts at 1pm and runs in Turbo mode. The D4 creates a map of your house as it does the cleaning. Once the map is created and saved, you can use the map to draw lines around areas that you want the D4 to avoid the next time it cleans. I haven’t tried this yet, but that’s a nice feature. The app also allows you to select a gentle mode that more softly bumps into items on the floor. Consider if you had an expensive item (say, a vase) that kept getting hit during the cleaning cycle and possible knocked over. The gentle mode alleviates this as a problem. Our house is fairly large at 2,800 ft, and per our configuration, starts cleaning at 11:30am. When it runs short on battery power during the cleaning cycle, the D4 turns off its cleaning brush and will use the remaining battery power to return to the charging base. Once recharged, the unit restarts itself – usually around 90 minutes later – and goes back to where it stopped earlier and resumes the cleaning effort from there. The D4 is smart enough to know if it has gotten stuck under something and will send a message through the phone app alerting you to its status. The phone app also allows you to change configuration parameters while you’re away from home, or to start or stop the unit as needed. Short of cleaning out the filter and beater-brush, the app provides the tools to do pretty much every else for you. Cleaning the D4 is simple, although the beater-brush can get tangled with dirt and thread-like particles and requires more attention than does cleaning out the filter. The app also has alerts that warn you when it’s time to replace the filter and the beater-brush. We are very happy with the D4, and at this time think it easily competes with its more expensive competitors.

We really did try to like it, but it just doesn’t work well...and sometimes not at all. Recurring issues include lost connection, can’t find base, forgot floor plan and kept cleaning same area over and over, etc. Yes, contacted customer service, reset unit, moved base all to no avail. We’re upgrading from a less expensive robot vacuum, so this is mostly a comparo. The Neato has remarkably strong pickup, as we can tell it’s getting all the nitty gritty from deep in our carpets that our previous vacuum never got. The mapping functionality is fairly accurate, and you can use the app to draw “no-go” lines on a blueprint of your home which the Neato follows. Navigation is strong due to a more organized cleaning pattern than the random zig-zag used by cheaper vacuums. The only minus, which YMMV, was the app for us. The vacuum seems to lose its connection, and reconnecting the vac to WiFi was sometimes pretty frustrating. Still, when the WiFi works, the vacuum works like a dream, easily controlled via your phone using the Neato app.

The initial setup was easy, however my robot disconnected from my wifi network and I had to reset it. After the initial network hiccup, the robot hasn’t had any connectivity issues. During the first run, the D4 had to go back to the base to charge for a few hours prior to completing the job. The D4 uses a laser that will work with or without light in the room(unlike optical robots which only operate well in lighted rooms). The suction on the D4 is better than the other two entry level robot vacuums I have. In addition, the D4 will start cleaning by rolling away from the base and using its laser while rotating to map out the room. It will then start at the edges of the room and work its way to the middle. The D4 will complete cleaning a room prior to moving on to the next area, which was very impressive. The other vacs I have randomly clean, hit the same items all the time, and do not methodologically clean the house. After the D4 cleaned and mapped out the floor plan, I was able to draw “no-go” lines in the floor plan stored Neato iOS app. These drawn lines act as a barrier that you don’t want the D4 to cross. It acts similar to the virtual wall and magnetic strips other vacuums require to prevent them from entering a place you don't want them to go to. I have both an amazon alexa and a google home, both of which I have used to have the neato D4 (I renamed the D4 “Bob”) clean my home by saying “Ask Bob to clean”. Based on the intelligence of this robot, the robust app, and the performance I can honestly say you will be hard pressed to find a better robotic vacuum at this price point from a reputable manufacturer. Pros: -Vastly more intelligent than other robots in the same price category -Great suction on carpet, area rugs, and tile -Gentle navigation mode -no-go lines -IFTT, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant compatible Cons: -No additional filter or brushes included with purchase

Bottom Line: The Neato Botvac D4 Connected is a very good robotic vacuum, but buyers should evaluate whether they need more features for their home. Pros: Laser room mapping, efficient cleaning path, virtual no-go area programming Cons: Messy emptying/clean-up, requires smart device and app, no side brush, can store only one floor plan Review: Initial setup should be simple, but I did have a couple of issues. On board controls and indicators are minimal. There’s a single button that can depressed along with the bumper in four locations. The unit contains a battery indicator and connectivity one, and it plays audible chimes. To set up the unit, the app directs you to put the unit in paring mode, which creates a WiFi connection for your smart device. Since there wasn’t a lot of feedback, it took me several attempts to get the button presses and timing right for the SSID to show up on my phone. Next, the app has you select your WiFi network, but mine didn’t show on the list and had to be manually entered. Finally, the unit/app cycles through a few phases: connect to WiFi, connect to internet, and register device on Neato servers. On my first attempts at this stage, the app hung and I had to manually restart the whole setup process. Once I setup the device, I activated the first cleaning cycle, which cleans and maps the floor space (our’s is comprised of laminate flooring with low and medium pile area rugs). The Neato uses a combination of LiDAR (laser pulses) and the occasional bumper hit (most often on furniture legs) to navigate around. Overall, it did an excellent job at moving around the space, turning corners and avoiding obstacles. I was particularly impressed that it stopped and went around the door stop sticking out of the floor moulding. It also will travel under furniture it can clear, and it was able to get under and escape from our kitchen table and chair setup (although it did not get fully under the table to clean). The vacuum is quieter than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The cleaning path was efficient even without the map, with the unit only repeat cleaning a few areas. Pickup was solid, and it handled small and large particles well using a combination soft bristle and rubber brush. It had no issue picking up small dog kibble and paper clips that I accidentally left on the floor, nor did it get hung up on the cords under my TV table (it did not pickup a Scrabble tile though). The report said it took 35 minutes to clean and navigate our main floor (335 square feet of floor) and then returned to its base. In addition to a couple of cleaning settings, the flagship feature is that you can set no-go boundaries from the digital map in the app. You can set as many as you want, which is handy since I don’t want the vacuum going under certain pieces of furniture and near our dog’s water bowl. In practice, this works really well, with the unit following the boundaries closely. With the map and no-go areas, cleaning time was reduced to 29 minutes for 321 square feet. The collection bin was about 40% full after the first cleaning cycle, which followed some spot sweeping and vacuuming the day before. Our pet does not shed, so this bin may not be big enough for large homes and/or ones with significant pet hair. Emptying is somewhat of a messy endeavor, as a lot of hair and dirt gets caught in the pleated filter which must be removed to empty the bin. Consequently, I had to pull the debris out of the pleats with my fingers, which is a bit messier than I would prefer for something that needs to be emptied daily. The D4 is very much a connected device requiring the app for setup and use. It’s also designated as the entry-level model, so it lacks a side brush which is used to kick dirt out of corners into the path of the main brush for collection. For my home, this means that the D4 can’t clean under our baseboard heaters, although the unit is low enough to clean the baseboard under my kitchen cabinets with its D-shape. Additionally, the unit is only capable of storing a single floor plan, so folks who want to clean different floors on alternating days won’t be able to do so with this unit. Overall, those in the market for a robotic vacuum will likely be pleased with the Neato D4 Connected, but those with larger homes and/or pets may want to consider one of Neato’s higher spec models.

This is my first experience with a robot vac. We had a bit of trouble connecting this to our network, it found our neighbors WiFi but not ours so we let it run not connected the first couple of days. Plan on giving this some supervision until you have set the boundaries up. Ours went into the fireplace and gobbled up lava chips until the bin filled up and went into a couple of places where it got stuck and couldn't get out. The unit really didn't want to go into our kitchen/butlers pantry area at first, there are 3 entrances and the floor surface changes, the unit would always turn around at the border. The vac managed to navigate all of the other flooring transitions just fine. In our dining room there are boxes that we are sorting through from a storage unit scattered around the floor which it navigated just fine as it did all of the chair and table legs. After we got it connected my wife took over and let it map the house, set up boundaries... We have both been amazed at the amount of cat hair that this thing picks up, even in a room recently vacuumed. Speaking of cats, I was afraid that this would terrify my cats who go into hiding when the regular vac is turned on. They both came close to check it out when it first came on, watched for a minute and then went about their business. It seems to get dust under objects like tables and benches better than our regular vac too. The Neato vac is quiet enough not to bother us when the television is on. Other than a little frustration setting up the WiFi in the beginning I have no complaints about this vac. It does a much better job than I imagined it would. My wife and I both love it.

The Neato Botvac DV (which I affectionately call my RoboVac 2000) is a pretty decent little semi-self aware vacuum cleaner. It will unfortunately not clean any corners/edges, but everything else in its path comes out clean. It is also for sure not ideal for people, who like me, are continually adding items around either permanently or temporarily. The No-Go lines you can add are a great, after realizing it can go into my bathroom, but cannot come OUT of the bathroom, I used the No-Go line to skip it all together. Setup: the initial pairing of the D4 with your wifi via the app took a couple of tries, it timed out here and there and was a slightly frustrating, but once it got going, it was fun to watch to little guy explore. As I previously mentioned, it was able to get over a little lump separating the living room with the bathroom to go into the bathroom, but got stuck trying to come out. I had to help lift it over so it could continue exploring. It also got stuck under my couch, just at a very small spot because of the top of the D4, so another No-Go line area. Relocation: My biggest issue was the relocation of the base, I had some drastic changes inside that required the base to be relocated . Deleting the existing floor plan and starting a new one did not work – as it still assumed the base was where it was first setup. I had to delete the D4 and start over as if it was a new machine. Overall, I love it, it zips around sweeping my hardwood floors and that is really all I wanted. It would be great if it was able to fit under the couch, but the top sensor extends the height.

This is my first Neato robot vacuum. The D4 model is fairly easy to setup. It uses laser technology to scan and navigate around the house. It is supposed to work even in dark, although I didn't try this feature. You can use the app to define the area where you don't want the robot to go. On a full charge, the robot can run for little over an hour. But if the battery is low, the robot goes back to the base, charges and then finishes the cleaning. This one doesn't randomly move across the cleaning area. It does do it in a pattern. Using the app, you can setup the times and days of when you want the cleaning to be done. There is also cleaning history in the app if you want to see when the robot was run, when to clean etc. It is not too loud, yet not too quiet either. This also has Alexa integration. You can do voice commands via any of the Alexa device if you have at home. One drawback is that the robot can only connect to 2.4 GHZ network. This is a decent robot vacuum that can be added to home automation devices for automatic cleaning and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into these automated robot style vacuums.

Love this Neato Botvac D4! We had a Roomba 890 and the Neato blows it away. First of all we love that it maps out the house and you can program it where not to go. The map it creates also tells you what parts of the house were vacuumed. The other big difference that we liked compared to the Roomba is that it will also vacuum hardwood floors. The battery will last a good hour, but it will recharge very quickly. Lastly, we like that it is not completely round like the Roomba, this is important because the Neato is able to get into corners that the Roomba never could because of the design. We got this Neato because we have a cat and we need to have the house vacuumed at least twice a week. It does an awesome job of picking up cat hair. We love that we can program the vacuum to run while we are at work and it will go back to its charging station on its own. We are extremely pleased with this Neato D4 and highly recommend it over the Roomba 890 if you are deciding between the two.

We were very excited to try the Neato Botvac D4 Connected App-Controlled Robot Vacuum. We have two large dogs and both carpet and tile in our house. The amount of dog hair makes vacuuming a weekly task. Overall, the Neato Botvac is very easy to set up with the App and we even got to give it a name! We chose Neato Speedo. Set-up: Just a few clicks and the app was installed to our iPhones and our account was created. We found an appropriate place to put the base and away we went. First Cleaning: First thing we noticed about Neato Speedo, it isn't very fast. In fact, it is very slow. We were a all standing watching it inch across the floor. What I will say is, it maneuvers very easily and finds corners, edges, furniture, dogs and people very easily. Make sure you pick up all items on the floor to prevent Neato from doing a U-turn. After the first run around the house, I could notice a difference and the floor seemed to be vacuumed fairly well. When the battery was low, Neato would stop and easily return to the base for a recharge. We did have a bit of trouble finding the filter to empty it, but that was because it was new and took some effort to open the door. Emptying the filter was quick and easy. We did notice the hole would get clogged quite a bit with dog hair during the vacuum cycle. We wished Neato would alert us of a jam, so we could clear it out. But besides that, it seemed to do a good job of picking up dirt and hair. Second Cleaning: The 2nd time vacuuming seemed to go a lot better. We were able to save our floor plan and Neato in fact cleaned the entire area. It did stop multiple times and return to the base for a recharge. We also cleaned out the filter area a few times. This process though is not quick. It seemed like Neato was running for a few hours. But, it was Sunday football and my husband loved sitting on the couch watching football while Neato Speedo did all the work. We have not tried the setting to have Neato vacuum while we are away. Having two dogs, they would probably get in the way. Neato was very quiet and did not bother them in the slightest though. The dogs pretty much ignored it. Overall, we are happy with the way Neato Speedo cleans and enjoy not having to vacuum the entire house multiple days a week with the upright. We will still probably use the upright every other week to get areas too small for Neato to get (along the baseboards, under the buffet, etc) and for the bedrooms. We have only used Neato in the family, dining, kitchen, entryway and hallways. We have yet to try it in the bedrooms, but I'm sure it would work just fine there too. A positive is the replacement filters are available at major retailers at a reasonable cost and are easy to change out.
