Should have gotten this sooner!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We have laminate floors in most of our house and a long hair dog, two things that don't go well together without having to constantly sweep! My wife and I were tired of having to lug the full size vacuum around to go over the floors and consequently we would only do the dreaded task about once a week. The floors were always dirty! We have been talking about getting a robot vac for some time now but were reluctant to spend the money. We finally bought the D5 after spending a lot of time reading reviews on all the different robot vacuums out there and the Neato brand kept edging out the competition, not to mention it is cheaper than the Roomba's. We got it home and like most Americans, I'm impatient so after setting the charging station up and putting the bot on it I set out to link it to our wireless network. Once it was connected I pushed the power button and off it went! Some reviewers have mentioned that it was loud, well it's not. It's far quieter than our full size upright and even our handheld Shark vacuum we use for spot cleaning piles of fur that collect in the corners. We did have to turn the TV up a few clicks but that was it! The vacuum ran through it's first cleaning cycle, finishing about 630 square feet in just over an hour (it is definitely much slower but it's effortless). After it completed the living room, kitchen, hall, dining room and breakfast nook it drove itself right back to the charger and settled in to recharge the battery. We had just cleaned our floors the day before since we were having family over for thanksgiving, so I didn't really expect much in the bin but it was FULL! I set the schedule up to run at 9 am Monday through Friday, leaving the weekends for ourselves without interruption. This morning I got home from work and the bot was busy running its scheduled cleaning. Until this point I hadn't tried it on our carpeted bedrooms so I moved the it into our master bedroom after it was recharged and turned it on, once again, the bin was full! It managed to work its way under the bed and TV stand where our full size vacuum can't clean. It performed surprisingly well on carpet. Admittedly, I was skeptical about how it would perform on carpeted floors, just like the laminate I was very happy! We are extremely happy with the bot, our only regret is we didn't get one sooner! We did have a connectivity issue with our wireless network but that was not the bot or apps fault, I didn't see the note in the instructions that it only works on 2.4g networks and I had connected it to our 5g network. I reprogrammed the network and the problem was solved. If you are at all considering getting a bot vac you should really give this vacuum some serious consideration. We couldn't be happier!

Battery is already dead

I mean, the battery has to be replaced. Taking the bot back to Best Buy for a replacement. I don't know if the Bot ruined the battery or if it is simply a 'cheap' battery. I am giving this unit a second chance because I really like everything else about it.

Not built to last

Out of the box, it works phenomenally. But time and time again it broke down and required repair or replacement. We went through about 4 different vacuums in under 3 years. Consider a more reliable brand.

One of the main reasons of the purchase was integration with smartthings hub, but it was difficult. Returned to store.

Died after 4 months

Reseated battery and no go. Geek squad plan didn't even help to get comparable model because it was a price matched purchase!

It WILL die after the warranty ends, GUARANTEED!!

I sent it back RIGHT AFTER the warranty period ended and Neato was gracious enough to repair it for me (main circuit board died). This made me really happy since technically they didn't have to do this. It ran great for another 9 months or so and now it is dead again. If this was a sub-$200 robot, maybe I wouldn't be so upset, but I paid over $500 and it lasted less than 2 years. I can buy $99 robots every 6 months at that rate and still be ahead!

Not as good as the reviews show

Overheated and melted plastic cover

After calling Neato they are offering no help at all as I am out of the warranty period. $500 for a 2 year vacuum is completely unacceptable and proves that Neato does not make quality parts, and they do not stand behind their products either. I will tell everyone I know to avoid Neato as their craftsmanship will only get you past the warranty period and no further.
