    Upgraded from 7" hub

We previously had the 7" hub and decided to upgrade. It was a wise choice and we are so happy with the larger display. The sound quality is better than expect for such small speaker and the video calling feature is a favorite for our little one to call loved ones without losing our phones.

Better than the first generation Google home hub! Bigger screen and better sound plus a camera so that I can Google Duo with the family when I'm traveling for work.

Nice functionality. Works great with home automation. I linked it up to turn smart bulbs on and off. Has a bonus nest cam built in. We use the Duo to make video calls. Definitely a nice touch for added Convenience for day to day tasks. You can set reminders, watch YouTube, get personalized news, listen to music. The speakers are good quality, it will fill a medium to large room with good sound quality. If you’re concerned about privacy there is a switch on the back to disabled the camera. Overall it’s a pretty nice feature in the house, because it can do so many things in one device.

Set this up in the kitchen and am really happy with it. Setting up and managing it is pretty straightforward with the app. I love using it for music and the photo frame feature. I did not realise how quickly I would come to rely on the information it provides for planning the day. It is really quite handy and the sound is decent. Be aware that it really only integrates well with other Google products and you need to have a google email id for set up. They are really trying to drive you into their ecosystem.

Handy picture display, bad for recipe display

If you're used to Google Home/Nest speakers then know that these are a remarkable step up in usability. Just having a display for timers alone makes it a pretty handy upgrade by itself. The place these really shine though is that photo display. They've incorporated an ambient light sensor that not only gets brightness but also color temperature. By balancing the color temperature and dialing back the brightness to only what's necessary they've managed to nail the effect of it not looking like a digital picture frame, but instead it simply looks like traditional printed picture. It's an intoxicating effect that I still marvel at. If you're looking for a digital picture frame then know that this is the Holy Grail of picture frames. Management is dirt simple, just fill a folder in your Google Photos and point the device at it. You can then just adjust the photo list at your leisure. Otherwise the default picture displays with curated photography and art is quite nice in its own right. The camera is handy to see if the kids are up and in the kitchen, but I don't leave it up and running all the time, that seems a bit weird to me. As a kitchen helper it's pretty lousy, so if you're looking or something will show you recipes then look elsewhere. It's not good at formatting web pages, the darn thing times out after 10 minutes, and casting a web page from Chrome on a PC is not actually useful in practice. There's a Lenovo that's supposed to be pretty good about recipes. Audio quality is pretty good, I'd say it's better than the original Google Home. If you turn on facial recognition then when you walk up to it and you haven't been in front of it in a few hours then it will greet you and start presenting personalized information relevant to you such as upcoming calendar events or an estimate on how long of a commute you've got based upon current traffic. They will show up on your network as a display that you can cast to, so if for some reason you want to play Disney+ or Netflix on there, have it it. If you use the Google podcasts feature (Hey Google, give me the news) then know that some of them like NPR has accompanying video as well and it will display that. You can also poke the time bar and skip over the ads that some podcasts and news items add in. If you have the Google Home ecosystem in your house (I'm assuming you do), then you should probably have one of these in some common area, but I wouldn't go load up on them. The camera feature for me makes this a no-go in the bedroom but living room or kitchen counter is a good place in my opinion. The smaller Nest Hubs have no cameras and are a fair chunk cheaper, so if you're looking for alarm clock replacements then look there instead.

Love that the Max olives up to its name. Way bigger screen than the 1st Google Hub. The speaker is a little bit better, not much, but better none the less. The price is a bit high, I'm sure it will come down soon enough.

Large display that you can stream Hulu, Netflix, or even YouTube on. The camera follows the person that is talking if you are using Google Duo. This device also doubles as a Nest Cam but no night vision tho!

The Nest Hub Max has been a great kitchen addition for me. It does everything I need it to while I'm in there. If I'm cooking I can pulled saved recipes up on it. If I'm at the stove just keeping an eye on a pot I can Chromecast YouTube or Twitch or even video call my family with Google Duo. The speakers get loud enough that I can hear it clearly over the stove exhaust (I just wish it didn't come out of the box at max volume!) The Nest camera incidentally is great. On Duo calls the camera will track you to keep you in frame. If I come up close, it'll pan and zoom to keep my head from going out of frame. I can walk around a bit and it'll adjust as best it can. It's otherwise a Nest camera that I can check in on and get notifications from. It also features a green light to indicate if it's sending footage off device which is a nice bit of transparency. It is disappointing there's no physical shutter but the electrical kill switch does the job. I previously tried the Lenovo hub and this is far better comparatively. My family tells me the video quality is good and I've had no problems playing or buffering videos to watch. The on device settings are a bit lacking but it's surprisingly customizable from the Google Home app. One gripe is the recipes feature is pretty lacking. You can save online recipes but you can't modify them nor can you put in your own recipes. Hopefully Google works on this.

I do really like this hub. The bonus being the camera which can also serve as a security camera. I have many smart home products and this for control of our smart home, a superb communication device either using video (google duo) or just voice calls is superb. Whatever smart home eco system you decide to use, in my opinion Google has the best products and integration. I love the fact it recognizes me and tells me good morning and displays my photo history reminding me of times years ago. You will not be disappointed with this device/technology!

This hub is perfect for video calls. I love the way it zooms in and out while using it. I also like the fact it's a hidden camera and I have the option to capture video or not. It has a great speaker for music and comes in handy when needing to look at a recipe while cooking.

Nice addition to any room, like being able to control things in my house. Took a little time to set up as it didn’t want to recognize my other devices at time but since then has controlled lights, tv, front door, and thermostat without any problems.
